  • Typically not my thing, but not bad

I've got to start by saying that I'm not a huge fan of Japanese food. It's not bad, but normally, I've got to be "in the mood" to really enjoy it. My wife on the other hand loves Japanese food and Nobu in particular. So when she suggested going there for our 5th wedding anniversary, there was only one answer I could give in order to make it to a 6th. We got there fairly early (when the staff outnumbered the patrons by at least 10-1), but that soon changed as the Saturday night dinner crowd kept pouring in, and the huge staff of waiters started buzzing about trying to keep up. By 7:00pm the place was feeling less romantic/intimate by the minute, but I guess that's to be expected from any place that's popular. Since it's not my thing, I can't compare the Nobu menu to menus at other Japanese restaurants, but as I was warned, most of the portions were small and the prices were "very large." (Yes, I was warned about the prices in advance.) Our server was very nice, and knowledgeable. However, if I would have been with the wrong person, the long stretches in between servings could have led to some awkward moments. The food was well-prepared and they had a wide selection of innovative dishes that I wish my primitive palate was refined enough to really appreciate, but after I doused everything with blue cheese dressing, I was good to go. (Just joking - couldn't resist.) Finally - I did notice quite a few parties of 5+ people who seem to be having the time of their lives. So, I made a mental note to add it to my list of potential group meal options (provided someone else is paying :-).

I recently dined at Nobu in Las Vegas and was very excited to try to the Dallas location earlier this week. We ordered several things on the menu that apparently were no longer available so we had to make other selections. I ordered the mixed green salad which was nothing more than a giant clump of mixed greens and asian miso dressing. Very boring and unimaginative. I also ordered the spicy scallop roll which didn't have any scallops, and the house special roll which was not special. Both rolls looked and tasted like they came from a Japanese restaurant in a strip mall. The other dishes that my friends ordered looked equally boring and not creative at all. It was a very disappointing experience for such an esteemed restaurant.

NOBU is consistently one of the best places to go in Dallas. The food is incredible and the service is great. Order a lot and plan on sharing! Don't go and order what you would typically order at a sushi joint. This place should be explored and they always have unique specials.

Nobu was by far the best restaurant that we have visited. My husband and I had dinner there on a recent trip. The chef's tasting menu was amazing and there wasn't a single course that disappointed. The wait staff was wonderful, the bar tender was great, the food was incredibly fresh and perfectly done. The decor was very modern, but comfortable and the restaurant was classy, but not stuffy. The cocktails were also a little out of the ordinary, but neither of us had a drink that we didn't like. One of the best restaurants that we've ever been to.

We have been here many times and the food is always great. The creamy rock shrimp is amazing. But unfortunately this time the service was terrible. Even after we kindly asked if she had too many tables, she said no, but continued to ignore our basic service expectation. For the quality and price of this restaurant, I expect service of an equal level and was disappointed.

I've always enjoyed great meals at Nobu Matshuhisa's restaurants, and the food remained on par with those expectations. But the service was horrendous. It was like being waited on by a child with ADD who forgot to take his Adderall. Between missing orders, 20 minutes to get a drink and the constant disappearing act, we began to wonder if he understood what his job entailed.

It is places like this that make local sushi restaurants feel inferior. Really...it is a fine dining restaurant. Dynamite hot dish-Broiled Alaskan Black Cod with Miso is outstanding. Had a dynamite beef tenderloin with 2 peruvian sauces. I could eat the Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeño all day. My son and I did the tasting menu and it was a great way to experience the fine dining ability. Don't miss dessert-"Cappuccino" has a chocolate mousse with caramelized pecan, vanilla bean ice cream and a cappuccino whip on top. Wait staff was above average. Conversations overheard at the next table was hysterically intertaining-dude with the wedding ring got taken advantage of by the uninterested sushi loving woman. So not too private.

Vicki was our server for the evening. She was energetic the entire night. She talked with us about the type of food we liked and then created the menu for us. She was spot-on with everything. This was hard to do since we have a pescatarian in the group and another member of the party does not eat sushi. Every plate was fantastic and beautifully presented. The service was great for us and we will definitely be back due to the food quality. This was a wonderful evening and a great dining experience at Nobu.

This was our second time eating at Nobu and we did enjoy our dinner however some of the dishes were hit and miss. For example we ordered one of the specials, which was scallop with chimichurri sauce and roasted potatoes. The scallops were chewy and overall the flavor wasn't great. We also ordered the house sushi roll and the pieces were not cut near the same size. Some were quite large and others were small. Not what you'd expect from a high end restaurants sub as Nobu. The seafood soup and seafood hot pot however were delicious.

Nobu Dallas not only lived up to its reputation, it far exceeded it. We had 6 course tasting menu, which I would highly recommend. each dish was exquisite, unique, masterfully presented, and absolutely delicious. The diversity and range of flavors were remarkable - in fact, stunning. And the portion size was generous - particularly for such a tasting menu. The restaurant itself was chic, romantically lit, yet vibrant. The service was attentive and refined, without the least bit of "attitude" so common in world leading restaurants. In short, Nobu is a gem, and not to be missed.
