A word from Noble Rot
Noble Rot opened in May 2002. It has gained local and national attention including the NY Times, the Wine Spectator & Gourmet. The Willamette Week named Noble Rot "Restaurant of the Year" in 2003 & Sunset Magazine named it “2009 Wine Bar of the Year”.
The best way to plunge into the Rot is through the wine flights that are offered each day. They also display a large bottle selection and all the wines are available to go.
Noble Rot’s highly regarded, locally sourced, seasonal food menu is made up of small plates with intense flavors. Noble Rot is perched atop the fourth floor in an award winning, environmentally sound, Leed-platinum certified building (the greenest!) which includes a fantastic west facing city view. With its outdoor patio seating, it is one of the best places in the city to watch the sunset.

Diner Reviews
  • "I met up with my family for a party of seven and the waitress was great working with them and I had a great dinner!"

  • "Food and signature cocktails were excellent service was definitely on the slow side."

  • "We celebrated a friend's bday with NR recently. Two of us both ordered the special ~ Halibut with black rice and carrot puree - amazing. The best halibut I've ever had. The other notable dishes on our table were the Lamb Shoulder [wow!], Gnocchi, the Asparagus & Proscuitto salad [amazing!!] and the Mache Mango salad [also amazing] We had the salads as appetizers - really nice idea for our group. My only criticism would be the olives in my martini. The views and ambiance were spectacular and as always - every bite of every dish was fresh, flavorful, creative and certainly memorable. I've told at least 10 people in detail about the halibut! High five!."

  • "First, I'd have to say this was not as fancy as I expected, but the food was good nonetheless. Very reasonable prices for what we ordered. I'd go back, but it's really not as impressive as it's reputation."
    Dined on 4/11/2014
  • "We had an incredible view as the sun came out and the windows were opened. Food selections were wonderful and the wine was good. We will be back."

  • "Saturday evening, Mom's night away for a few hours. Great food and even better drinks. This particular evening we had to use the stairs (elevator not working), fortunately it was only four flights. The pasta special and desert special was worth having to climb the four flights of stairs!"
    Dined on 4/5/2014
  • "Noble Rot is on the forth floor and the elevator wasn't working so might want to check on that. Excellent wine list, great waiter. The shrimp salad was fantastic, would have as entree for a light dinner. Friend liked the seared caesar salad as well. My hubby had the special pasta, ok but not impressed. I had the gnocchi also ok but not impressed. Our friend had the pork shoulder, very good. I would go back to try other dishes as the atmosphere and view were great. Sometimes it only takes one good dish to keep coming back, and I'd like to find it here at Noble Rot."

  • "My friends and I were visiting Portland for a few days and wanted an eating experience for our last night. We had great food, good wine choices and really enjoyed the view. Full of lively young diners. Service was a bit absent minded and the lack of elevator service to a 4th floor venue won't work for some"

  • "The food was good, and the place was busy, but there was no excuse for the service. Our waitress and waiter assistant were well intentioned, but they forgot to bring drinks we asked for, even though we asked more than once. What did it for me was when the waiter was passing a dish past me and spilled sauce on my sweater and lap. I went into the restroom and flooded the damage with water and spent the rest of the meal wet. No offer of comping the meal, but did shame them into another glass of wine. Seemingly no clue as to handling an accident like this."

  • "Noble Rot has a great location with beautiful views of the city and have their own rooftop garden that they use for some of their dishes. Our server was very friendly, helpful, and checked on us often. The food was delicious, but on the spendier side of things (not outrageous, just not cheap at all). The ambiance for a romantic or just cool scenic place to eat with just a couple people is fantastic. Their cocktails are delicious, and the wine flights are a good way to go if you're indecisive or just want to try more than one (for the price of one and a half). The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is because of the prices (sometimes I think PDX just has overpriced food, but I'm a thrifty person, so take that with a grain of salt)."

  • "Went for our two year wedding anniversary and couldn't be happier. Not only was the food amazing but some of it was even grown on their rooftop garden. The other thing that sent it over the top was the amazing view of the downtown Portland skyline. Nothing is more beautiful at night."

  • "Hard to imagine a better view of the city of Portland than from Noble Rot. Even better the food and drink was fantastic. We had a large group and the wait staff were brilliant. Good stuff."

  • "Fabulous food, great atmosphere and excellent service. Noble Rot is a must for anyone who loves great wines and food. Great for dates, too."

  • "We had heard about Noble Rot, but had forgotten about it. We entertained out-of-towners, and staff for a casual and wonderful evening. The casual atmosphere was appealing. The food was superb. Everybody pleased with their dishes. We had veg only people with us, and there was plenty to choose from. Our waiter guided us through the menu and also recommended a wonderful wine. (Walla Walla is our new favorite source for good red wine). A real nice experience. Have already told others and would be pleased to return."

  • "Noble Rot is at the top of our list for places to have Birthday dinners. The last one was for my little sister and she loved it. The server even put a candle in her dessert to make it extra special. I requested a window seat for our reservation and we got not only that, but a lovely pink sunset as a bonus! Different sunset every night, and it's an absolutely fantastic view of the city. Steak has always been a favorite."

  • "I have been wanting to go to Noble Rot for a long time but it was always hard to find an open reservation. On Friday, there just happened to be an opening at 7:30pm (wow) and so three of us dined and had a great experience. We tried the Rhone red flight, cheese plate, beet salad, onion rings, pasta special and the sea scallops. Everything came quickly and was all very tasty. Very enjoyable, the restaurant is beautiful and the view is amazing. We will be back and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone."
    Dined on 3/7/2014
  • "When I placed my reservation I asked for a booth near the window, but we were put in the back room at a table with other people, away from any window. The room was so stuffy and hot that all of the windows were so fogged up that we had no view at all. The food was good, but we were very distracted by the humidity. My husband was so hot that he could not wait to get out of there! It was not a pleasant experience and we will not be returning. I will not be recommending Noble Rot to anyone."

  • "Went there with my family for dinner. The view and ambiance were fantastic. A nice mix of modern and antique. A really nice dining space. The food was also very good and the service was excellent. Get a window seat on a nice evening during sunset and you will have an amazing experience. I'll go back."

  • "Noble Rot has everything going for it. Good service, food, view, and atmosphere! I love the ceilings and the atrium. Thanks for the great evening."

  • "Loved Noble Rot when they were at the original location. Was still good when they first moved, but I feel like the food isn't as good as it used to be...the other night confirmed this. I would go for a small appetizer and drink on my way to another spot for dinner. Not sure I would go for dinner again."

  • "Took a chance w/ our group of six. Family visiting from out of town and looking for place that took reservations and quiet enough to visit. Noble Rot fit the bill. The Booth was plenty big enough for all. The view was perfect for Portland visitors. Staff was attentive but not over done & food was fantastic! Portabello burger (no bun & loved it!!!). We're not wine drinkers but no matter- mixed drinks were tasty. Icing on the cake was noise never escalated to the level many popular PDX eateries. We were able to visit w/ those across the table and didn't leave w/ ringing in our ears. Look forward to trying happy hour & outdoor dining area this summer!"

  • "Make's for a great night to celebrate with a partner or loved one. Food is a bit pricey but the quality is well worth it. They are attentive to all food allergies and make a real effort to help the customer. Food, Service, Environment - all of it was great. Will be going back again soon!"

  • "I made a reservation for myself and my girlfriend for valentines day because of the great view from Noble Rot. I made the reservation so we would have time to enjoy the happy hour menu and grab a few drinks. Little did me know that there was a special 3 course valentines day menu that they were charging 60$ a person!….. We were looking forward to the casual nice ambience and the 5-10$ appetizer items on the regular menu. We almost walked out at the thought of spending 120+ dollars for a single meal. But we decided to stay and actually really enjoyed the 3 course meal and the environment. The Food was Very good and the service was alright for the price tag. We will be going back to Noble Rot, but not for a special menu again."

  • "The staff was great. Very attentive. The good was great. Really fresh and perfectly cooked. Except. The artichoke salve was to die for but there was a few bits that were pretty tough. I am being really not picky but that is important to me. The artichoke was not peeled to perfect tenderness. That said the flavored were incredible. Great dishes. Wine flight of white was excellent. The desserts were light and fresh. The main course I didn't like the flavor but I can't say it wasn't perfect. Literally the cod was cooked to perfection. I am extremely picky with fish. It was perfectly cooked. I went for a valentines day me he and wasn't let down. The host didn't have to say I booked it that day in front if my date though."

  • "We love the ambience and the view, but the food could have been better. I wouldn't have minded the small portions and high prices if it had been worth it. But it was just off. The fennel soup was bitter, the Brussels and bacon had no salt, the sole was over-salted...but the olives were lovely. We didn't have drinks or dessert so we are hopeful to try again as a drinks and dessert place. Still the view is gorgeous so maybe come here after dinner for a little night cap?"

  • "I brought my girlfriend to Noble Rot for an anniversary dinner. I had never been there before. I was impressed with everything and my girlfriend was too. We will definitely be back!"
    Dined on 2/3/2014
  • "The Noble Rot for one has an interesting name that doesn't give any hint of what you are about to find. Located on the 4th floor, elevator or stairs, opening up to a cozy setting with great dinner lighting. Very interesting lighting fixtures. The service is great, the food is good, but I get the feeling a constant work in progress. Great views of the city, an atmosphere that makes you want to stick around. Would highly recommend."

  • "The menu is very limited and tries way to hard to be exotic. The presentation of all dishes we ordered was visually poor. The portabello mushroom burger appeared as a shrunken, blacked, pile on the plate. The mac and cheese was obviously micro-waved as evidenced by that hard tough edge that a micro-wave imparts to food. Only one member of our group liked his meal, but not at the cost. The view is good for Burnside restuarants, but nothing to bring me back. The service was adequate. Not to be a nay sayer about all things, the decor and noise level are very good for a conversational dinner. I paid $50 for my meal and 2 glasses of wine. I will go elsewhere for a better meal and pay less. Sorry, to be so truthful!"

  • "We weren't looking for a $75 night out, so we went with burgers and cocktails. I bet that way spendy entrees were very good. They sounded good. But a place that says gimme $30 for a porkchop oughtta be awesome from the ground up. Burger was unimpressive. It doesn't take much to be able to say, well played on creating a solid burger. Toast that bun, put some decent lettuce and tomato, choose good meat. Why would I pay a lot for a porkchop if I can't get the basics done right? There are some cities where I would go back to a place like this. Nice enough, even a little low key glam to sit in here. Staff was stellar. But dang, in Portland, you just need a little more thorough wow to do a repeat. So...glad I went once. Won't go back."

  • "We were a group of 4. The beautiful nighttime Portland city view was immediately visible on our arrival into the dining room. When I'd been there twice on early summer evenings I hadn't seen this before. The server was very attentive without being intrusive. We were catching up with friends, wanting to be able to converse. The noise level was low enough to allow this. Had a mildly negative food experience...my pasta was undercooked. Even after being "fixed" it was still too chewy. Everyone else was happy w/ their choices. My husband's medium cooked burger was more like medium rare, but delicious. All of our butter lettuce salads, while slightly pricy, were lovely. Will definitely go back, trusting that the pasta experience was a fluke."

  • "Wow! Fantastic ambiance for a group or couples. Great hipster vibe, amazing city view, fantastic wine list and the food was spot on. Try the cheese platter, great selection. We went with a group and some ordered cocktails that were well made and inventive. The wine flight was perfect for me."

  • "A first time visit resulted in a great meal and memorable meal. The menu is not extensive, but carefully thought out, creative and nicely presented. Service was great and a real plus was a low noise level that allowed you to speak with others. Highly recommended."
