A word from Noble Rot
Noble Rot opened in May 2002. It has gained local and national attention including the NY Times, the Wine Spectator & Gourmet. The Willamette Week named Noble Rot "Restaurant of the Year" in 2003 & Sunset Magazine named it “2009 Wine Bar of the Year”.
The best way to plunge into the Rot is through the wine flights that are offered each day. They also display a large bottle selection and all the wines are available to go.
Noble Rot’s highly regarded, locally sourced, seasonal food menu is made up of small plates with intense flavors. Noble Rot is perched atop the fourth floor in an award winning, environmentally sound, Leed-platinum certified building (the greenest!) which includes a fantastic west facing city view. With its outdoor patio seating, it is one of the best places in the city to watch the sunset.

Our waitress was friendly, until it came time to pay the bill. My party was a total of six and the restaurant automatically adds a gratuity to 6+ people. That gratuity is optional and no one should ever be forced to pay that. You should be able to leave whatever tip you want to pay, not what the restaurant "suggests." We paid what we actually owed for the food we ate and the waitress told us we were short. We said we will not pay the gratuity and we will leave a tip though. She held our cards hostage and brought the manager over, who explained their "policy." I told him we want our cards back and we will pay what we want, but you can't force us. The manager was completely rude, didn't respect us as customers, and didn't even try to make us feel better or alleviate the negative tension. NEVER GOING BACK THERE!

We went for our anniversary dinner on recommendations from some coworkers. Even noted it was our anniversary in our reservation. We were looking for a romantic spot with a pretty view and that isn't quite what we got. We were seated at a table literally inches from another couple . Felt like we were part of their party since they was extremely loud, and in the middle of the atrium. No chance for any type of private conversation there. There was also a large party in there and it was very noisy and felt crowded. The onion rings were amazing, but our meals were blah. My daily pasta was extremely salty and the steak frites was under seasoned. Perhaps a visit in the summer when the garden is producing would be better.

I felt like I was in Manhattan or Paris. Thew view and art were romantic and beautiful, expansive city scape visible from everywhere in the restaurant. The servers were both attentive and kind. We were seated immediately. Food and wine were perfections. I would only recommend adding 1 or 2 more options for vegetarians.

The view was great. Food and service...not so much. Mac and cheese came out with more than half of the top breadcrumbs burned, totally black(who serves charred/burned food??), plus the dish overall hardly tasted like mac and cheese. Other food was ok, but not great. Wine was overpriced, service seemed bored with diners' presence. We were let down.

The short dark haired hostess ruins it for all the other exceptional staff. Snarky is maybe the best way to describe her. We watched her w all other guest and she was put out by every single one of them and every guest noticed. Even w our reservation a request for a booth was met w snide comments and resistance. During our stay only two other booths filled up. A group of 6 guys who requested a booth got the same treatment. To bad, everything else was great, including the other servers who had genuine smiles and were happy to serve and do their jobs. Unfortunately because this one person is allowed to work their and represent the restaurant and the rest of the staff, it leaves a sour experience.

Great evening enjoying the ambiance and dining at this proven venue. We selected Noble as several in party wanted wine flights and several wanted views. We got both plus wonderful service and food! The tuna entree was excellent and tasted freshly cut from a recent catch. The steak frites seemed very enjoyable. A fun time celebrating a birthday had by all.

Had high hopes for this place & made a special effort to get there. Missed rooftop view due to rain. Nice bar area & city view but not spectacular. Overall atmosphere seems sterile. 4 wine flights available, only one w/Oregon wines (Pinot Noirs). Limited selection of wines by the glass also. Spotty, detached service. Staff seemed more pre-occupied with their own conversations than with customers. My server did became more helpful as I was leaving. If he'd been as friendly & attentive during my visit, then I probably would've stayed for more wine & maybe even dinner. In any event, I won't be returning on my next trip to Portland.

nice table and view...they could clean the windows. The Pasta dish I ordered came off a bit heavier than I expected...seemed like it had extra oil from the pancheta. The roof salad was great, but the wine flight was unremarkable; in the future I will stick with what I know. I can understand the reason for the popularity of the restaurant and will give it another try.

Think onion tart or meat plate for appetizers, ask to visit the roof top garden where many of the greens are grown, wonderful wine list with MANY extras that the knowledgable wait staff can recommend that are NOT on the list. I've been looking forward to eating here for ages so I was stoked that my evening opened up so my friend and I could try it out. For starters, the ambience is incredible. Loved the low lighting, candles, and booths. The patio is lovely. Great view on a beautiful, clear evening. I wasn't wowed by the selection of fare, and the main entrees did not seem varied enough for me. I ended up choosing the albacore, which was lovely, but again, wasn't wowed for the price. I may eat here again but will definitely check the menu first. If it doesn't sound delicious, I'll skip in favor of another restaurant on my list.

Lovely summer evening on the deck - watching the sun set and city lights emerge. That would have been enough, but add to that beautiful and delicious food. My meal - ahi tuna with vegetables - was probably one of the best examples of delicious flavors working together, with great little bursts of intensity. Completely satisfying. My husband had the daily pasta, which was good but not nearly as impressive. Mine was definitely worth the splurge!

The lady said she dreamed of having dinner at a place where we could watch the sun set, so I made a reservation at Noble Rot. For weeks she tried to find out where we were going, but I kept it a surprise. We were not let down. They took us right to a table on their 4th floor balcony, with sweeping views of Downtown, the lush West Hills, and she almost cried. Had an amazing meal as the sun set behind the hills and the city lights twinkled up. The place was busy and chatty (which we like) but we weren't rushed. Stayed there over 2 hours and felt welcome. Consumables 5stars on everything we put in outr faces. Wine flights, olives (GET THE OLIVES!), a bottle of Rioja, linguine with braised rabbit, angel food cake. Trust the chef and staff.

Cocktails were ok, tuna was ok, but the green bean salad, fried chicken plate and the dessert are dream worthy. Been to Noble Rot previously, so I had high expectations. Made a reservation 1 month in advance, requesting a table with a view. I knew that tables on the patio w/ a view were better for conversation. We were put in a booth in the main room under an air-conditioner. It was 85 outside & I was freezing under a drafty machine. When we asked if it could be adjusted the answer was no...it would become too warm. For whom? The wait staff? We were COLD. It was noisy, making conversation difficult. This was a special occasion w/ out of town guests. Food was good, but service and ambiance were not. How far in advance would I have had to reserve to get the location we wanted?
