A word from Noble Rot
Noble Rot opened in May 2002. It has gained local and national attention including the NY Times, the Wine Spectator & Gourmet. The Willamette Week named Noble Rot "Restaurant of the Year" in 2003 & Sunset Magazine named it “2009 Wine Bar of the Year”.
The best way to plunge into the Rot is through the wine flights that are offered each day. They also display a large bottle selection and all the wines are available to go.
Noble Rot’s highly regarded, locally sourced, seasonal food menu is made up of small plates with intense flavors. Noble Rot is perched atop the fourth floor in an award winning, environmentally sound, Leed-platinum certified building (the greenest!) which includes a fantastic west facing city view. With its outdoor patio seating, it is one of the best places in the city to watch the sunset.

Diner Reviews
  • "It was a hot day so I doubled down on two salads instead of a cooked entree. They were both inventive and delicious!"
    Dined on 8/17/2014
  • "Inside setting was trendy and comfortable; view was great. Service attentive but not overly so. Food and veggies to die for! Especially recommend dessert: the angel food cake with lavender infused berry reduction. Perfect way to end the evening."

  • "The lady said she dreamed of having dinner at a place where we could watch the sun set, so I made a reservation at Noble Rot. For weeks she tried to find out where we were going, but I kept it a surprise. We were not let down. They took us right to a table on their 4th floor balcony, with sweeping views of Downtown, the lush West Hills, and she almost cried. Had an amazing meal as the sun set behind the hills and the city lights twinkled up. The place was busy and chatty (which we like) but we weren't rushed. Stayed there over 2 hours and felt welcome. Consumables 5stars on everything we put in outr faces. Wine flights, olives (GET THE OLIVES!), a bottle of Rioja, linguine with braised rabbit, angel food cake. Trust the chef and staff."

  • "As usual, the food was excellent, the view stunning, and the energy fun and exciting."

  • "Favorite on ALL levels, food, vino flights, ambiance, incredible service. We love the burger, we split it every time and then branch out to try something we haven't previously had. Last night we had the steak salad. WHOA, flavor flavor flavor, tender, incredible. Can't wait to go back . . ."

  • "Wonderful place with delicious food and beautiful views"
    Dined on 8/2/2014
  • "The view and food were beautiful. We were there on a busy Saturday night so service was a bit slow, but we didn't mind taking in the scenery while we waited!"
    Dined on 8/2/2014
  • "The fried chicken and homemade lemon raspberry ice cream sandwich are the things dreams are made of! Cocktails were ok, tuna was ok, but the green bean salad, fried chicken plate and the dessert are dream worthy. Sitting outside on a summer day eating is always one of my favorite things and Noble Rot did not disappoint. Plus loved that there were Rye, Port, Scotch flights as well as wine flights. We will return."

  • "Food was all pretty good, except my steak, which was to be medium rare, ended up on my plate as definitely rare. Other than that, it was a good experience and the food was good, if not noteworthy."

  • " Staff could use smile on their faces. I don't like to be told how long of a story someone wants me to write"

  • "Been to Noble Rot previously, so I had high expectations. Made a reservation 1 month in advance, requesting a table with a view. I knew that tables on the patio w/ a view were better for conversation. We were put in a booth in the main room under an air-conditioner. It was 85 outside & I was freezing under a drafty machine. When we asked if it could be adjusted the answer was no...it would become too warm. For whom? The wait staff? We were COLD. It was noisy, making conversation difficult. This was a special occasion w/ out of town guests. Food was good, but service and ambiance were not. How far in advance would I have had to reserve to get the location we wanted?"
    Dined on 7/18/2014
  • "The food was greasy and the fries underdone. Atmosphere made up for the food. Heard this place was really good, but was disappointed"
    Dined on 7/18/2014
  • "Great evening with a group of 8. Excellent food and service. We were well taken care of."
    Dined on 7/16/2014
  • "Don't know why I got an email showing reservation cancelled, and I not get credit. I and my colleague showed up and were seated at the patio where we ordered dinner"
    Dined on 7/15/2014
  • "I was looking forward to trying Noble Rot both for the ambience and the fresh, local cuisine, but the service was a total downer. I don't usually write negative reviews, but after my experience I felt it was necessary. I made a reservation for the patio; when we arrived the hostess was less than friendly. She sat us on the patio, which boasts gorgeous views of downtown and is beautiful, but it was 90 degrees outside and simply too warm to enjoy. We politely asked for another table, but was rudely told there were no others. Our options were to sit in the waiting area and dine or wait for a table. We chose the cramped waiting area. From there we waited a long time for service and had to ask twice for help. Food was ok, but I won't be back."

  • "Nice view friendly service , fun for couple or groups! When it is nice in Portland sit outside great view if Portland! This would be a good place to bring out of state guest!"

  • "Amazing butternut squash panini! Awesome service as well as presentation of food. Great energy in atrium."

  • "The food here is fresh and delicious! Amazing onion rings & not a drop left on sons' plates (steak and fries)! Wished for an outside table, as was a perfect 80 degree Portland night. Inside was fine except for the A/C blowing over us. Wait staff was great and friendly. All bold letter items on menu indicate fresh ingredients right from their rooftop garden. Delicious!!"

  • "Fantastic view! Knowledgable staff! We really impressed out out of town guests :)"
    Dined on 7/9/2014
  • "Staff seemed busier with each other and friends. Foo ok but pricey for portion size"
    Dined on 7/7/2014
  • "The food here is gourmet, but unpretentious. Everything we had was delicious. The drinks were creative and well-crafted. Service was outstanding."
    Dined on 7/3/2014
  • "This place was recommended to us, so we booked a table before a concert. Overall, it was OK, but nothing special. Limited menu, and while the food was cooked right the flavors didn't seem to work exceptionally well together. The wine list was reasonable length, but the choices were so obscure only a real wine geek would know what to choose. I'm always willing to spend for a great wine, but not based only on recommendation of the sommelier."
    Dined on 7/2/2014
  • "Made a 5pm booking - doors were still closed at 5:15 and at least 12 standing around while the Wait staff was inside tasting and laughing with each other. On a Tuesday...? In Portland? Service was relatively slow for drinks and then super fast for food. Again...odd."

  • "Thanks for the great food and service. We had a very memorable evening out with friends and family."

  • "We were going to a show in the area so thought we'd eat here. We ate off the small plates and it was wonderful! Crispy pork belly lettuce wraps, cauliflower soup, a avocado, champagne mango and fennel salad and angel food cake. We love this place."
    Dined on 6/28/2014
  • "We were seated in the outer dining area, on a sunny evening. the sun was beating down on people so hot that they were holdgn their menus up to get out of the direct heat. There was no shade to be drawn on the window. they have done nothing to insulate the roonm for sound so it reverberates off the walls. We were moved to an inside table mid way through our meal to get out of the sun. It was a bit quieter inside. The food was decent pub food. Not great, and a bit overproced for the offering. thea reason to go... wine flights."

  • "We had an excellent dinner, complimented by tasty drinks, and a sweet dessert to top it all off! Service was top notch! We will definitely be back!"

  • "I made reservations for a birthday early dinner weeks in advance. I thought I was clear in wanting to sit in the atrium for the view. When we got there, there were several open tables in the atrium. They refused to seat us there because of other reservations. We (4 of us) sat just inside and I spent our entire dinner looking at an empty table for 4 in the atrium. The server was short with us, whenever she brought us something, she never asked if we wanted anything else. And when we tried to ask for more/other things, she walked off too quickly to hear us. The drinks took super long to get to us. Must say, the food was awesome. Great happy hour prices. And great view...if you can sit in the atrium."

  • "This place has great food and service every time I go. The wine list is extensive and has many wines available by the glass. You can be casual or dressed up and you'll never feel out of place."

  • "Disappointed that we requested patio seating but patio was closed"

  • "Host was not welcoming. Waiter was ok but could have been more attentive."

  • "This was our first visit, great view and exceptional friendly service, food was good but a bit pricey. Wine selection was excellent but again pricey. Overall a nice evening, definetly enhanced by the wait staff. I had the chicken breast and wife had polenta, marinated olive side was tasty but a bit plain."
    Dined on 6/19/2014
  • "Recommended by some of our daughter's friends, this place did not measure up to our expectations for a Portland restaurant. The industrial decor was not a good start, the music was obnoxious and loud, the view overrated and the food so-so. The strong smell of garlic in a salad was not the way we want to start a meal. The waitperson could have suggested something else after my wife asked about garlic in another dish. Add a strange and pricey wine list, and we won't be back."

  • "Good ingredients. Entrees were overpriced and average in flavor. HreT salads and dessert"
    Dined on 6/12/2014
  • "They have a unique view of downtown from the east side of the river. I've always had great food and service. I usually think about the peanut butter and jelly bread pudding for a couple of days afterwards."
    Dined on 6/10/2014
  • "I must thank the staff at Noble Rot for making my friend's birthday a lovely occasion. As a group of ten, we were a talkative and at times, a little too exuberant. That wait staff was very attentive and when certain members of our party got too loud, our waitress was so diplomatic and effective in reminding us of the volume. The food was great. The atmosphere was lively and bright. Everyone had an excellent time!"

  • "I made an 8-person reservation for a birthday dinner through Open Table (so easy). When we got there, no one even acknowledged our existence for 5-10mins. Kind of a buzz kill for a special birthday. But, the wine/cocktail list was spectacular and the food (at least my steak frites) was really good. Service was slow, but I guess it was busy. Also, they don't allow us to split checks AT ALL. I get that you don't want 8 credit cards, but I would have liked to at least just split it in half-- was quite the pricey ticket ($600 bill-- gulp!). Above all, the ambiance makes it. Who doesn't love the view of downtown Portland at sunset? Incredible. Worth it. Plus, good food and drinks? Just block out the full evening."

  • "This place was way too cool. I loved hopping in the elevator that opened up right into the restaurant. The service from every single employee was top notch and they all were extremely informative as we asked quest ions about their garden, water supply, and history. The food was amazing; perfect amount, great presentation, and we'll prepared. My favorite part had two sides to it: the view was awesome...sunny day, open air deck, view to the west looking at downtown. But I didn't think of bringing my shades....so they had loaners for me! This really made my day because without something as simple as sunglasses, my experience would have been far less enthusiastic due to the sun in my face. Nice work Noble Rot!"

  • "We have been here for wine flights and pasta and we have been here for gourmet burgers and beer after work - each time it has been a great experience. As excellent cooks who don't dine out a whole lot, we really want great food and a delightful experience. This is the place; wonderful service and a lovely view. "
