A word from Noble Rot
Noble Rot opened in May 2002. It has gained local and national attention including the NY Times, the Wine Spectator & Gourmet. The Willamette Week named Noble Rot "Restaurant of the Year" in 2003 & Sunset Magazine named it “2009 Wine Bar of the Year”.
The best way to plunge into the Rot is through the wine flights that are offered each day. They also display a large bottle selection and all the wines are available to go.
Noble Rot’s highly regarded, locally sourced, seasonal food menu is made up of small plates with intense flavors. Noble Rot is perched atop the fourth floor in an award winning, environmentally sound, Leed-platinum certified building (the greenest!) which includes a fantastic west facing city view. With its outdoor patio seating, it is one of the best places in the city to watch the sunset.

Diner Reviews
  • "Staff seemed busier with each other and friends. Foo ok but pricey for portion size"

  • "We were seated in the outer dining area, on a sunny evening. the sun was beating down on people so hot that they were holdgn their menus up to get out of the direct heat. There was no shade to be drawn on the window. they have done nothing to insulate the roonm for sound so it reverberates off the walls. We were moved to an inside table mid way through our meal to get out of the sun. It was a bit quieter inside. The food was decent pub food. Not great, and a bit overproced for the offering. thea reason to go... wine flights."

  • "The food here is gourmet, but unpretentious. Everything we had was delicious. The drinks were creative and well-crafted. Service was outstanding."

  • "This place was recommended to us, so we booked a table before a concert. Overall, it was OK, but nothing special. Limited menu, and while the food was cooked right the flavors didn't seem to work exceptionally well together. The wine list was reasonable length, but the choices were so obscure only a real wine geek would know what to choose. I'm always willing to spend for a great wine, but not based only on recommendation of the sommelier."

  • "Made a 5pm booking - doors were still closed at 5:15 and at least 12 standing around while the Wait staff was inside tasting and laughing with each other. On a Tuesday...? In Portland? Service was relatively slow for drinks and then super fast for food. Again...odd."

  • "Thanks for the great food and service. We had a very memorable evening out with friends and family."

  • "We were going to a show in the area so thought we'd eat here. We ate off the small plates and it was wonderful! Crispy pork belly lettuce wraps, cauliflower soup, a avocado, champagne mango and fennel salad and angel food cake. We love this place."
    Dined on 6/28/2014
  • "We had an excellent dinner, complimented by tasty drinks, and a sweet dessert to top it all off! Service was top notch! We will definitely be back!"

  • "I made reservations for a birthday early dinner weeks in advance. I thought I was clear in wanting to sit in the atrium for the view. When we got there, there were several open tables in the atrium. They refused to seat us there because of other reservations. We (4 of us) sat just inside and I spent our entire dinner looking at an empty table for 4 in the atrium. The server was short with us, whenever she brought us something, she never asked if we wanted anything else. And when we tried to ask for more/other things, she walked off too quickly to hear us. The drinks took super long to get to us. Must say, the food was awesome. Great happy hour prices. And great view...if you can sit in the atrium."

  • "This place has great food and service every time I go. The wine list is extensive and has many wines available by the glass. You can be casual or dressed up and you'll never feel out of place."

  • "This was our first visit, great view and exceptional friendly service, food was good but a bit pricey. Wine selection was excellent but again pricey. Overall a nice evening, definetly enhanced by the wait staff. I had the chicken breast and wife had polenta, marinated olive side was tasty but a bit plain."
    Dined on 6/19/2014
  • "Host was not welcoming. Waiter was ok but could have been more attentive."

  • "Disappointed that we requested patio seating but patio was closed"

  • "Recommended by some of our daughter's friends, this place did not measure up to our expectations for a Portland restaurant. The industrial decor was not a good start, the music was obnoxious and loud, the view overrated and the food so-so. The strong smell of garlic in a salad was not the way we want to start a meal. The waitperson could have suggested something else after my wife asked about garlic in another dish. Add a strange and pricey wine list, and we won't be back."

  • "Good ingredients. Entrees were overpriced and average in flavor. HreT salads and dessert"
    Dined on 6/12/2014
  • "They have a unique view of downtown from the east side of the river. I've always had great food and service. I usually think about the peanut butter and jelly bread pudding for a couple of days afterwards."

  • "I made an 8-person reservation for a birthday dinner through Open Table (so easy). When we got there, no one even acknowledged our existence for 5-10mins. Kind of a buzz kill for a special birthday. But, the wine/cocktail list was spectacular and the food (at least my steak frites) was really good. Service was slow, but I guess it was busy. Also, they don't allow us to split checks AT ALL. I get that you don't want 8 credit cards, but I would have liked to at least just split it in half-- was quite the pricey ticket ($600 bill-- gulp!). Above all, the ambiance makes it. Who doesn't love the view of downtown Portland at sunset? Incredible. Worth it. Plus, good food and drinks? Just block out the full evening."

  • "I must thank the staff at Noble Rot for making my friend's birthday a lovely occasion. As a group of ten, we were a talkative and at times, a little too exuberant. That wait staff was very attentive and when certain members of our party got too loud, our waitress was so diplomatic and effective in reminding us of the volume. The food was great. The atmosphere was lively and bright. Everyone had an excellent time!"

  • "This place was way too cool. I loved hopping in the elevator that opened up right into the restaurant. The service from every single employee was top notch and they all were extremely informative as we asked quest ions about their garden, water supply, and history. The food was amazing; perfect amount, great presentation, and we'll prepared. My favorite part had two sides to it: the view was awesome...sunny day, open air deck, view to the west looking at downtown. But I didn't think of bringing my shades....so they had loaners for me! This really made my day because without something as simple as sunglasses, my experience would have been far less enthusiastic due to the sun in my face. Nice work Noble Rot!"

  • "We have been here for wine flights and pasta and we have been here for gourmet burgers and beer after work - each time it has been a great experience. As excellent cooks who don't dine out a whole lot, we really want great food and a delightful experience. This is the place; wonderful service and a lovely view. "

  • "We read in Travel & Leisure magazine that Noble Rot was voted one of the top 50 outdoor dining spots in the US so we came here for dinner before going to Moda for James Taylor concert. Got a table in a covered area with a beautiful view of downtown Portland and large open windows. Service was great. Food was excellent. We will be back!"

  • "A few days ago, three of my friends and I went to Noble Rot to catch up. The food was great, the staff was amazing and we were seated out on the patio, so the view was great too. All in all, it was a great experience. We ended up staying for about three hours for drinks and dinner. I will definitely go back again. I had been once before and noticed that the Thursday at 6 pm crowd was much more manageable than the Saturday at 8 pm crowd. I definitely recommend having a reservation."

  • "I hadn't been to Noble Rot in some years, but had good memories, so I made reservations for 4 for a special occasion. The space is pleasant (though the curtains are unlovely), the view is amazing, the service was friendly and good, the wine selection was good, and price of flights was reasonable. But the food was meh. Not nearly as good as I remember. The beloved old onion tart has become a thick layer of balsamic-dominated goo on a thin crust. The menu didn't have much range, particularly for vegetarians. Salmon gyoza was overcooked, and the appetizers, salads and entrees we tried just weren't very interesting or well matched to the wine. Not unpleasant, just dull. We still had a good time, but I was disappointed in the food."

  • "We had a wonderful meal here with our family visiting from San Francisco. Both service and food were excellent and they have a great view of the city."

  • "I selected the Noble Rot to take a group of visitors from Chicago who wanted to experience Portland. Although you have the traditional selections in the area this stood out to be unique and interesting. While I used open table to confirm our reservations I made several special notes outside requesting some special services. Ie: chilled wine waiting, flights of beer etc, the Noble called back to confirm and make any special notes. Upon arrival they were very accommodating understanding the goal I had in mind to introduce "Portland" to my very important visitors. The seating overlooking downtown Portland with a sunset over the West Hills, wine, service and ambiance was superb! Very well done and I highly recommend for any occasion!"

  • "My friends visiting from Wisconsin fell in love with this place! We started inside, and when an outdoor table opened up, the staff happily and graciously met my friends request to move to the outdoor patio. Great food, great service."

  • "We all enjoyed our special Mother's Day Dinner. This was our first time at Noble Rot but we heard nothing but great reviews and thought it would be a nice choice for out Mothers Day celebration. Very were not disappointed in he least. The food was cooked to perfection. The presentation was beautiful and appetizing. The staff was friendly and efficient. The desserts were GREAT. I highly recommend NOBLE ROT to my friends and family. Great Job. "

  • "Had a very nice meal here. This place is tucked away in an industrial looking building with great views of the city. Only regret was outdoor seating was very limited and we had to dine inside. Next time we will get there earlier or be more patient. Food was nicely presented and the staff was awesome here. Salmon was tasty but a little undercooked and had to be sent back. Locally grown salad ingredients was a treat."

  • "Our family celebrated Mother's Day at this restaurant. It was a joyful environment, a bit loud, but that added to the fun. All Patrons seemed to be enjoying themselves. The food was wonderful, as was the wine. Our 93 year old mother enjoyed the whole event. She was taken by the neighborhood, how it had changed and where it had not. This was a great atmosphere to celebrate Mother's Day. Great food, Great wine, Friendly and mixed patrons, the service was great. We will be back, both as an extended family and for more solitary dining. Great to have locally owned places like this to go to. We all liked the environmental concerns that is displayed in the building, the food, the roof garden, the aquifer."

  • "I went for the first time last weekend and the service, atmosphere and view are all very good. It was too bad that everyone's food (party of 6) was disappointing. I would not go back based on the quality of the food. Perhaps if I was just getting drinks I would go back."

  • "My niece and I were visitng Portland and I was looking for a great spot to celebrate out last night in town. The view of Portland was killer, the food delicious and the service was so gracious. They even brought a little birthday dessert. Charming. Wish I lived closer."

  • "Great view looking across the Willamette at the night lights of downtown and the West Hills. Busy but not noisy. Our waiter was perfect: attentive and knowledgeable. Roasted chicken was excellent but didn't blow us away. Love the wine flights. "

  • "We happened here upon a recommendation from a friend. Loved the atmosphere and views! What was even better were the cozy chic booths where I could sit with my girlfriends and we could actually hear each other talk and catch up! The service was great!"

  • "I had a nice visit on quiet night with my friend and fellow wine enthusiast Corinne. The only disappointment was that they were out of one of the wines on their Washington Reds flight, which seems inexcusable: someone isn't watching inventory very well. Besides that, the place was quiet: every other time I have been to Noble Rot is has been bustling with long waits for tables. Service was attentive, friendly, and professional."
