Diner Reviews
  • "No. 246 is always a wonderful experience. My wife and I like to order our appetizers, salad and meals to share because there are so many delicious options. Thoroughly enjoyed the lighter options for spring including the grape, citrus salad which was amazing. The desserts are always just the right size and incredible. Love the ambiance and while there is definitely a lot of conversation with music in the back ground, it's never to loud."

  • "It's my fourth time there. Appetizers arrived before our wine. They were excellent, however. (The one with olives and blue cheese & the special with Mozarella) Entree had to be sent back because it was cold. Desert came after our coffees were nearly done. However, the waitstaff recognized the gaffs and comp'd a portion of the meal, attempting to make good on the series of misses. I would still go back, since three other times were great. I love this gem and want it to succeed since it's in my hood. It's a bit of sophistication in a town that can use more variety."

  • "the Agnolotti is finally back to what it should be. I like the spring flavors paired with this dish. Service was very good and attentive. The strawberry Salad was also a very nice addition on the menu."

  • "Artistic food that's actually eatable! Great service and amazing dishes. My wife loves the sommelier - spot on with every recommendation. The ambiance is very nice as well, casual but special. The noise level can be a bit much in the evening on weekends, but the food makes up for it!"

  • "Loved the energy & food at this place but the noise level is deafening! I'd still recommend it- just be prepared!"

  • "From drinks and apps to ever and dessert, everything was excellent!"

  • "The food was fun and interesting, but not time-stoppingly good. The dishes were either slightly salty, or lacking the extra oomph of extraordinary dining. The meatballs were slightly on the salty side, with the marina a bit overly so almost as if it had been sitting over heat for a while and became a little too concentrated. The pastas were slightly underdone. Not al dente, but actually underdone, which is disappointing for a restaurant that bills itself as fine Italian. If the dishes had been given just a little more care, everything would have been amazing."

  • "Had dinner for my wife's birthday. Could not have been better. One of the best meals we have had in the city. Pasta with boiled peanuts (I know it sounds funny) was amazing. Lamb, fish - everything was outstanding. We have been to the Optimist and JCT many times but our first trip to 246. We will be back often!"

  • "Great food, fun atmosphere in the heart of Decatur."

  • "I met a friend for dinner after work and couldn't have picked a better spot in downtown Decatur. The food was excellent and the wine list was amazing! Will definitely revisit in the near future."

  • "My husband and I came here on a Wed night for our anniversary. This was our first visit to the restaurant. Since it was a weeknight, there were empty tables and the noise level was tolerable but I could see how on a busy weekend it could become very loud. I personally don't consider noisy restaurants to be "energetic", just noisy and headache producing. Why is it considered a plus to have to shout so other people at your table can hear you? The service was very good and the food excellent. I had the Halibut with rice. Loved every bite. My husband had the beet salad and 2 pasta dishes- also excellent. Dessert was a strawberry cake, also excellent. We plan to come back again."

  • "This was approximately my sixth time dining here. It's always great, but it was amazing this time. We were being treated by an out-of-town family member and chose No. 246 because we knew we could depend on great food and service. No disappointments here! We loved our server, and the food was amazing.....!!! Love, love, love the neighborhood feeling and vibe of this place.......!! You will see people of every age group, all with the same intention........going out for a great experience of food and fun!!"

  • "We loved the cool decor, lighting (perfectly placed pin lights for menu reading) and large windows (opened on a pleasant evening). We also enjoyed our dinner, the meatball appetizers with just the right amount of zing, the simply prepared fresh trout, the veal bolognese and the homemade waffle cone of vanilla ice cream!"

  • "246 is a good downtown Decaur alternative. Inside is noisy, but the patio is quiet enough for a conversation. Food and drinks are well prepared and the wait-staff are comptetent."

  • "Our server was not very good, which really took away from the experience. First, I asked a question about a particular pasta, and what arrived was completely different than what she told me. She never acknowledged it, either. Second, the portion was truly small. I asked if this was the full portion or the half, and she said it was the full. No other response or inquiry from her. This sounds really bad, but I was then inclined to count how many bites it would take to finish. 9. Food was very good, but don't think I got what I paid for on this trip."

  • "This was my second visit and it was just as great as the first. The food is some of the best I have had and that includes everything on the menu from the toasts to the desserts and everything in between. Service is just as good as the food. Very attentive and friendly servers."

  • "Went with 3 other people - my 3rd time there , their first - they loved it. Everything from the service to the food is top notch. We will continue to return. I could have a meatball, salad & a glass of wine & that would be perfect. GO!!"

  • "Great food, DELISH meatballs and that artichoke pizza is fabulous! Super noisy so prepare yourself for that."

  • "First time here, had heard great reviews so wanted to check it out. Decor was awesome, friendly service, tasty food. Only comment is portions are not very big, so get an appetizer or dessert."

  • "Our waitperson was terrific and attentive, but not hovering. Two adults - we started with an appetizer and salad to split. Then, we ordered half portions of the squid ink pasta with shrimp and a sausage pasta. EXCELLENT choices, but glad we ordered half portions as there was a lot of food. I would definitely return to no. 246. Parking can be tricky, but there is a parking garage within 1/2 a block."

  • "Had lunch here before and thought it was good so went back for dinner and decided it wasn't so great after all especially for the money. No wine less than about $40 and pasta entrees for $20. OK if you're going for the pizza, but otherwise it's not good value for money."

  • "We really enjoy 246 for a special occasion. It's a bit pricey, but the service is great, atmosphere is relaxing and the food is delicious."

  • "We elected to go to no. 246 for brunch on a Sunday (3/2/14). We ordered the deviled eggs - fabulous. We ordered 3 entrees - Ga. White Shrimp (shrimp & grits play), Campanelle w/ fennel sausage, Srozzapreti - Carbonara w/ crispy farm egg....all fabulous. We ended our meal with a few to go boxes & a scoop of ice cream each in the best waffle cone I've ever had. From start to finish, the service, attention, timing, drinks, flavors & everything else was on point. The service team worked extremely well together. No one was above filling our water, taking a plate from the table, bringing a drink or putting in a dessert order. It made for a seamless & efficient (but not rushed) dining experience. We'll definitely be back."

  • "No. 246 never disappoints. The food is outstanding, very innovative and fresh. The pasta is homemade and divine. The only downside is that it is very noisy - you have to shout to be heard once it gets crowded."

  • "From the time we sat down, an hour and fifteen minutes to get our food. It took 30 minutes for someone to come to our table. Maybe we caught it on a bad night but will not be going back anytime soon. Good food but poor service."

  • "Had a lovely meal, all by myself. Mark, my server, was attentive and professional. Because I ate early the noise level was very nice. When we have eaten there before, later in the evening, the noise is a deterrent to wanting to have a return visit."

  • "Whole branzino was outstanding. Great service with meal appropriately paced (not rushed). Loud, busy, bustling, packed on prime Saturday evening at 7 pm. I wish there were more app choices than salads and the antipasti platter."

  • "Food was excellent, server was helpful and attentive, but the noise level was unbelievable! Couldn't carry on a conversation with my spouse, it was so loud. Won't be going back."

  • "Although the acoustics are terrible (I couldn't hear the people sitting across from me), it was worth it to experience the food. The trout was cooked perfectly with delicious seared brussels sprouts and potatoes. The toasts were interesting and delicious. I also had oyster from Washington state topped with sturgeon caviar. Absolutely divine! I didn't partake in any alcohol, but the fresh pink lemonade was a great choice. I recommend this for casual fine dining. A great place to take a small group for a birthday celebration or for a romantic date night."

  • "Stumbled upon No.246 when trying to find a good place to eat when my cousin was in town for a conference. I'm a JCT Kitchen fan so I figured this spot had to be good and I was right! It's Italian inspired menu doesn't disappoint. We had salads and pizza - yum, yum! Ordering a meatball or two is a must. Loved the decor and the waitstaff was competent and friendly. I definitely will be going back!"

  • "Had a wonderful dinner on 2/15 - our meals were delicious and our waiter Mark was very friendly and personable! Having traveled from the Midwest, dining at No. 246 was great choice for two twentysomethings - in fact, the couple next to us made a list of other not-to-miss restaurants to visit. I was a little concerned about the noise level based on other reviews, but even with a late reservation time we had no problem hearing each other. We couldn't have asked for a better experience!"

  • "Everything was fantastic! Our server Hanna was knowledgeable and friendly without being overbearing and obtrusive and she seemed to really enjoy creating a special evening for us. My only criticism is that the tables are WAY to close together. In my humble opinion, dining out should be an intimate and personal experience."

  • "My only experience with no.246 was for brunch last weekend with 5 friends. Quiet, hip and great brunch choices for all types of folk: wood oven breakfast pizza, shrimp and grits, your typical steak and eggs as well as french toast. Friendly service. I never go to brunch expecting the perfect meal as brunch (for a kitchen) is pretty tough), but no.246 did pretty well. If I lived in Atlanta, I'd return and definitely check out the evening menu."

  • "We chose to use a couple of gift cards to celebrate Valentine's, but opted for 2/15. The food was amazing as usual and our server Kristin was charming and attentive. The only issue we had was the time it took to get cocktails after we ordered them, but the bar was hopping so it was understandable. Kristin was knowledgable about some of the more arcane ingredients in the cocktails, which was a pleasant surprise. Her wine pairings with our entrees was also impeccable."

  • "I love No. 246, and a friend and I go every year to celebrate our birthdays, which are three days apart. While strolling around Decatur, I pointed it out to my boyfriend and told him how great the food is. He suggested we go for Valentine's Day, as he loves Italian food, and doesn't live in Atlanta, so he'd never been. Once we got our food, he kept telling me how amazing the food was, and what a great idea I had to go there. I continued to remind him that it was actually HIS idea!! Needless to say, as usual, the food and service were impeccable. I love this restaurant, and I hope it stays around for a long, long time. Thank you!"
