Diner Reviews
  • "Too noisy for romantic dinner. Tables too close together."
    Dined on 7/26/2014
  • "Great food, great ambience and the service was impeccable."

  • "This was my 2nd visit and sometimes the restaurant that you loved so much the first time, doesn't live up to your recollection. This was not the case with No. 246. Great, friendly service, delicious food, including meatballs, stuffed and baked mushrooms, and fresh pasta-- both the spaghetti and the agnolotti. No dessert this time, but I'm sure it would have been stellar."
    Dined on 7/25/2014
  • "There were 6 of us- luckily I ordered the best entree- angolotti (spell?) with corn and Humboldt Fog- it was quite delicious. We shared some apps to start- meatball, Italian salad, stuffed mushroom special- all were good especially the mushrooms- nice and garlicky. Overall, service was nice and efficient."

  • "The food and service was excellent...better than expected. However, the table they sat my party of 5 was so small. The table was extremely small which might have been great for our conversations, but the place is so LOUD, that we all had to lean in to hear what everyone at our table was talking about. Even the waitress had to speak loud so we could all hear the specials. If Open Table had a noise level of loud, or extremely loud, I would have chosen that instead of energetic."

  • "I've reviewed before and still think it's great. However, if you like your pizza crisp, ask for it That way. They are very accommodating. First time having salad and it was awesome -- a perfect bite of summer."

  • "The Georgia peach salad is always absolutely delicious, but our favorites are the fish dishes. We especially love the Grouper - outstanding. No. 246's pasta dishes are delicious as well, with my favorite being the black squid pasta. Wait staff is attentive and prompt, without being overbearing. Also love the seasonal offerings. Highly recommend!"

  • "Food was outstanding. Especially loved the meatball appetizer. Service was attentive and prompt even though the restaurant was packed. The restaurant was extremely noisy which made it somewhat difficult to carry on a conversation at our table and also to hear the server when she was explaining the menu and answering questions. I'm not sure if they were having problems with the air conditioning but it was hot in the restaurant. Everyone in our party was sweating. Prices are reasonable considering the quality of the food. We will be returning to No. 246."

  • "We were here for brunch and had an absolutely amazing experience. The pizza margarita was perfect (it tasted straight out of Italy) and the squid ink pasta was incredibly fresh - both ideal on a warm summer day. Brunch cocktails were excellent and service was friendly."

  • "Excellent dining choice with reasonable $12 corkage fee. Food is fresh and creative and items are sourced locally. Our only mistake was we should have skipped dessert simply because we were already full. Highly recommend."

  • "Great dinner! Meatball appetizer was delicious. Had flank steak entree with a red wine sauce which was very tasty.. House wine very good. Bread with olive oil wonderful! We were fortunate to sit in window so not as loud. Can be very hard to talk there due to noise level. Service was good...our server very knowledgeable and helpful. We will definitely go back!"

  • "The food, service, and wine/drink list are excellent. Never a disappointment at 246. One of Decatur's BEST!"

  • "Wonderful meal, wonderful service. Will definitely go there again and have recommended it to friends. We ordered everything that our server Neil recommended and it was all superb. Neil was one of the best servers I have ever had and I love to eat out. It was a great experience all around."

  • "Food and service were excellent but the place was very noisy!"
    Dined on 6/28/2014
  • "Service, ambiance, and attitude were all great at 246. We sat outside on the patio- and loved it. Except for the spider who decided to weave it's web above our table. Also, the food was amazing overall but we felt the springer chicken entree was a bit too flavorful. The way it was prepared, you lose the flavor of the chicken with all the other ingredients."

  • "really enjoy this place. food, service and ambience make it a can't miss dining experience."
    Dined on 6/24/2014
  • "This was my first time at No. 246 for dinner - I had been for lunch many months ago. The dining area was dark and loud, but since there was only 2 of us, we managed a conversation fine. Had we been a larger group, it may not have been as easy to hear. The food was excellent, as was the wine and the service. Would definitely go again."

  • "Our server Bonny was The Greatest! The food was excellent and my party and I really enjoyed our dining experience. Will definitely continue to return to 246."

  • "I've now dined here 4 times and I'll continue to return. From the minute u walk in the door, and observe the great decor and are greeted, everything is stellar. From service to food -- just great. This chef knows what he's doing,is very creative and one of the best in Atlanta. 5 stars to all involved in bringing 246 to us!! Thanks"

  • "The food was incredible, portions were just right, our server was incredible. We sat on the back porch which had big ceiling fans to keep us cool, and watched people coming and going through the street behind (there was a beach-themed festival that night in Decatur). The inside was a bit loud with echoes, but outside was just right. We're definitely going back in the near future!"

  • "The whole picture with 246 was great in reservations, food, ease to find, service for surprising my husband with my son that flew in from Califronia for Fathers Day. He got off Marta from the airport and walked straight to 246 in Decatur. However it is so loud in the space that you cannot hear or carry on a conversation. We still had a great meal and would probably return on a Monday night or for lunch but stay away from the busy times!"
    Dined on 6/19/2014
  • "The food was OK, the service friendly but spotty and the atmosphere was good. It was a bit too loud and the servers seemed a little overwhelmed. We liked some of the dishes that we tried but weren't really impressed with any of them. We had high hopes since we really like The Optimist, but we were disappointed and we don't plan on returning."

  • "Went there for lunch with my toddlers. Food was great, staff was very accommodating but I just felt that it was a little slow for lunch. We didn't get out for 1.5 hours and anyone with kids knows that's a long time to keep them occupied. We ordered a spaghetti dish and the waitress told us after 20 min that they were going to use another type of pasta and if that was fine. It was fine but my 3 year old was waiting for 45 min for lunch from the moment we sat down so it was just a little hard to keep her occupied. However, the food was great and so was the ambience."

  • "Love the food, service, fit with neighborhood. Great back porch but noisy inside."
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "Food was amazing! Great atmosphere but loud in dining room. Great outdoor patio."
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "The meal was savory. Fresh local farm grown food was really amazing!"

  • "We don't get out much with 3 toddlers - so when we do we like to make it count. We had never been to no 246 so we thought we would give it a try. Cocktails were very good and had great reccos from the waiter. Meatball app and peach salad were also very good. My wife had the spaghetti with shrimp and I had the halibut - we both enjoyed them. Again, it was very good but not mind-blowing like we had been led to believe. Would definitely go again but not a place where our minds were blown."

  • "We ordered fried okra for apps which was a big hit;pizza was just ok; meatballs were yummy. First three entrees came out cold...2 pastas, one chicken, all three sent back for a "reheat"; next pasta was piping hot. Last 2 entrees were fine, but then 3 of us were waiting for quite some time to get our meals back. Food was good, but not outstanding. Chicken special for two was a big hit; chicken with panzanella salad great. Would have wanted all meals brought out together so no one was eating alone or finishing up alone."

  • "The absolute best meatball I have ever had in my life! Salmon to die for, peach salad was amazing. Early retirement drink and the peach pizza were truly amazing. Topped off with the almond cake! This place is exceptional!! Do not miss these very talented chefs. Even have a chefs counter. We loved everything!!! "

  • "The food is really good, the wine list is very good, with a lot of choices with reasonable prices and the service is great. The new patio outside is amazing! The ONLY big problem is the NOISE! It is CRAZY loud. My advice is to book a table around 9pm so that very quickly it gets a bit more reasonable. But apart from that, really nice restaurant!"

  • "Always good food and service. Cover back porch nice. Wedging a LOUD table of 6 right up against our table wrecked ambience. We had to lean in to talk. Restaurant inside had loads of space? "

  • "One of the best meals we ever had! Delicious dishes, so very fresh and bursting with flavors, including fresh snipped herbs from the restaurant's back yard, that we could see from the delightful covered patio (where you can also play ping pong!). House-made pasta dishes made our eyes roll back, and the salads had brilliant combinations of veggies and herbs. The service was top notch and ultra friendly. This is our new favorite restaurant in the Atlanta metro area. Ok, one very minor gripe-- more than 2 slices of that yummy bread at a time, please! The bread is served with dishes of high quality evoo with terrific olives afloat"

  • "Overpriced, the food was good but higher quality can be found for the same price elsewhere."

  • "Sunday brunch was excellent. In our party of 3, I had the Breakfast Pizza, and the others had spaghetti and French toast. Both were very well received. My pizza was also good, but I would have been just as happy without the fried egg on the pizza. The trout and deviled egg appetizers were outstanding as was the 21st amendment Hell or High Watermelon Beer. Service was excellent, and we received great advice in finding a place to park which was difficult because the street in front of 246 was closed for an arts/crafts show. This is a kind of funky low-key and very pleasant place for brunch. This is not a place to go if you or your guests are looking for elegant, table-cloth dining. But we would certainly recommend it to others."

  • "Having seen the advertisements on TV about 246 regarding the type chicken served and driven by it numerous times. For our first time visit, we treated out of town guests to an outstanding Sat morning brunch. The menu was unique in offerings and preparation which we found to be outstanding in taste. We thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere, service, food and great prices making 246 a must visit again restaurant which we would highly recommend."

  • "We had a great meal and the service was outstanding. Very friendly and helpful from the time we were seated to the minute we left. We were here for a special occasion (2 birthdays) and the staff was very accommodating to my 7 yr old. Decatur dining is typically family friendly but no. 246 really made an effort with a children's menu that had great (not boring) options. Thank you! Dessert options were perfectly sized - small but still perfect to share and not overdo it on sugar. Ya know when you just want a few bites. The only drawback is the noise level. The acoustics are terrible.. We spent a lot of time repeating ourselves or just talking to the person next to us because it was impossible to have a table conversation. "

  • "We were 30 minutes late for our reservation, but it wasn't busy and the staff was great. The food is really fresh and locally grown, when possible. Even though the tables are close together, we didn't have a noise issue. The server was very nice and friendly. I will be back!"

  • "The food and service this night (our second time here) wasn't nearly as impressive as the first. Not sure if we'll go back."
