A word from Nizza - NYC
Nizza is a casual Italian restaurant located in the heart of Hell's Kitchen. Chef Andy D'Amico uses the cuisine of the Italian Riviera as a starting point for his exploration of Italy. Our house speciality is our "Socca." Socca is a chick pea crepe baked in our brick oven, traditional to the French city of Nice. Our menu has a wonderful selection of antipasti, salads, soups, pizza, pasta and entrees. We were higlighted in 2008 "Cheap Eats" issues by Time Out New York and New York Magazine. As well as Time Out New York's Top 100 food items of 2008.Continued

  • "My first visit was a mixed bag: loved the socca, very disappointed by the pizza margherita. But the service was good and my companion was very pleased with her fish entree, so I decided to give them another try. Glad I did. Service again was quite good and there's a nice selection of reasonably priced quality wines by the glass and carafe. Once more, a fish entree was a hit with my companion, who was also very taken with his negroni. I enjoyed the eggplant appetizer but the agnolotti genovese was exceptional. Downside, a common one in NYC, is that tables are very close together. But the music is muted so it's possible to converse in a normal tone of voice."

  • "My friend and I went to Nizza for a pre-theatre lunch and we were quite happy all the way through. We were seated right away and our server came soon after. We had a grilled shrimp over kale, which we substituted from grilled chicken. The salad was so tasty. A bit sweet from the raisins, crunchy and fresh. It was also a nice size. We also had a mimosa which was totally refreshing. I wish this restaurant was closer to home because I'd frequent it more often. A great find!!"

  • "We ate lunch at Nizza prior to going to a Sunday theatre matinee. We chose it after doing a Google search and found that it had a decent vegetarian selection as well as a great gluten free menu. Both the service and food were excellent. Our waitress was attentive and while she was walking past our table during dessert, she noticed that the gluten free person in our party was about to take a bite of one of the desserts we had ordered. She stopped and told him not to eat it because it was not gluten free. That was really nice of her, and in my opinion, above and beyond! Will return and have already recommended to friends."

  • "The food was bit disappointing, but the window seat away from noise made up for it! My daughter ordered spaghetti, meatballs & sausage. The meatballs were fatty & the sausage was very dry. My sister ordered the monkfish & the lemon caper sauce was of poor quality. On the other hand, I had the lamb chops & they were fantastic! I am GF & they put out bread which was a treat."

  • "I'd read about Rizza on line and was not disappointed. The fettuccine with pesto and the socca with arugula and prosciutto were outrageously delicious and gluten free. We will definitely put this on my go to list for gluten free in NYC. Definitely make a reservation. The place was hopping at 10 pm on a Thursday night with no tables available if you just walked in the door."

  • "Nizza has been a reliable go to restaurant for 5+ years now, especially for pre theatre dining. This place has had it's ups and downs but I'm happy to say this last visit made me think Nizza has hit a really nice groove. Delicious meal, very friendly and attentive service and perfect timing to relax and be at the show by 8. Seems like Nizza is running on all cylinders and I'm thrilled."

  • "We are in NY for 5 days for theatre and jazz. We found this place on NY Times restaurants in the Dining Section since we wanted a reasonably price not too fancy but with good food kind of place near the theatre district. The review was good and we were very happy with this selection. They served a salad that was one of the best I have ever had and was incredibly interesting with beets, rhubarb in it...fabulous. Not too fancy but great little neighbourhood place. We both had pizza which was really good as well. Wonderful choice for us."

  • "We reserved a table before the show, and it was a good thing we did, this place was packed. Heard about it from our Italian friend, so assumed it must be good. We just split a pizza, but it was great. We also tried their special lemoncello sangria and enjoyed it. Very nice decor added to a very pleasant dining experience."

  • "I chose Nizza because it was near the theatre, had a diverse menu and good prices. The food turned out to be fresh and very good. Everyone loved their meal. Unfortunately our server was often MIA. After seating us she never came back until, after waitng far too long, I got her attention. She was unfriendly and never acknowledged that she was missing or had not taken our drink order. By then we just ordered drinks and dinner. While it was busy there is no reason she should have been so inattentive. When I got her attention to call her over she was chatting at the bar. Not cool."

  • "Fun trattoria in theater district / Timed square Authentic Italian decor transports you as does the Simple but well prepared pizza, pasta, formaggio etc Try the chickpea pancakes or "socca" Yummy! Brunch is great too- many choices of eggs and Baked delights!"

  • "Same awesome quality. Nice server. No judgement felt when we didn't order an app or dessert. Noted that they didn't spell "Rose" properly for blush wine, opposed to wine made from roses. Thankfully, they were out, and I had to order something else. They accommodated my special request to add sausage to the pasta, though they only have crumbled sausage, which I found a bit off for an Italian restaurant. Seems like a lot of children and families are now dining here, unlike before. Though MATILDA playing around the corner may have something to do with that. Also, the food came out extraordinarily quickly! Like, five minutes after we ordered, and my dining companion ordered the monk fish. Maybe corners are starting to be cut?"

  • "Socco and eggs was great! Socco is a crisp chick pea pancake, unusual and really good. servers were very sweet and helpful, maybe a touch forgetful."

  • "This is our second time at Nizza. They are very conscience of Gluten Free concerns, and have a wide selection of choices. My wife ordered the Gluten Free Gnocchi and it was a cheese lover's delight. I enjoyed the Linguini with clams (not Gluten Free) and was fully satisfied. While we were offered Gluten Free bread the first time without requesting it, this time we had to ask for it. They do not offer any certified Gluten Free adult beverages except for Vodka & one beer (which my wife does not drink)."

  • "From the moment you enter - there is a real sense that Service is spelled with a capital S So pleasant and thoughtful which made the delicious lunch a real pleasure. The right combination of good food well prepared and presented in a good setting with good service. Looking forward to coming back many times to this new discovered restaurant."

  • "My gluten-free husband and I were looking for a restaurant for my birthday dinner. So glad we found Nizza! When you walk in, they offer you a gluten-free menu; you don't even have to ask! The food was so delicious, we were actually nervous that we'd accidentally been given regular pasta instead of the GF, but no — it's actually that good. Nice ambiance, great service, very affordable. We'll be going back."

  • "The crispy octopus was by far the star of our meal. It was a good appetizer portion, but if I go back I may eat it for my entree. I wanted the WHOLE PLATE. Nizza is a GREAT place to eat if you are gluten-free b/c there is an extensive GF menu including lots of pasta options. I had the gnocchi as I was having a specified cheat meal -- still gluten free, but had lots and lots of delicious cheese!! It was good and worth every bite. My friend had a steak that was very well prepared. Impossible to avoid dairy for the most part, so that was disappointing. All of the staff were extremely helpful and sociable. Even the other diners were nice. It was a perfect spot for my friend and I to catch up and enjoy ourselves."

  • "Great place to eat either before or after a show - close to broadway but not touristy. Food is always good - has a great gluten-free menu which is important with my family! Highly recommend trying the socca!"

  • "Nizza has a really good gluten free menu. Food is excellent; gluten free pasta dishes are terrific. Gluten free bread is the best. Very happy I found this restaurant in the theatre district."

  • "My husband and I enjoyed a delicious dinner before a weeknight show. We arrived 10 minutes before our 6pm reservation and were promptly seated. The waitress was very helpful with suggestions and answered our questions. We enjoyed a scrumptious arugula salad, butternut squash tortellini, the stuffed veal, and warm chocolate cake. Absolutely fabulous meal. We will be back!"

  • "The service was uninterested. The bread had to be requested. The wait for the first course (salad) was 35 minutes. When I asked the server what the problem was, the response was that there was "a large delivery." Are the chefs required to unload the delivery truck during the dinner rush? Other customers, who arrived after us, had been served their food before us. I asked our server for more bread, which he never brought to us. The bus boy, within one minute of asking, brought us more bread. We never saw our sever again until he brought the check, without even bringing us the dessert menu. The food was served without the potatoes that were indicated as part of the meal on the menu. The noise level was extremely loud."

  • "We have been here a few times so far and have never been disappointed. Gluten free menu available and gluten free bread brought to the table if asked (their GF bread is better than the regular bread!). Order the cheese plate, so worth it. It's a little cramped, but not earth-shatteringly so. We made a reservation at 7pm, were seated by 705, had our food by 720, and when our fantastic server noticed I had pulled out my card at 745, he knew we needed to be out to catch an 8 o'clock show. And we were out in a minute, and I was floored. They must deal with us last minute types a lot, because we made our show just in time! Anywhere else and we wouldn't have made it... Thanks Nizza for fantastic food and service!!"

  • "My go-to pre-theater place for pasta, pizza, salads, lamb chops and the like. There's a very good gluten-free menu featuring socca (chickpea-flour pancakes, basically a pizza alternative) which are good enough to order even if you don't have a gluten problem--tastier than wheat-flour and with a better glycemic index. Other that that, good standard Italian-American fare, very reasonably priced for the Theater District. I made an excellent light dinner out of the day's soup (bean with pesto) and a salad of bresaola and shaved parmesan over arugula. The service is friendly if a little slipshod when crowded, and the house wines could be upgraded, but a solid 4 stars."

  • "Very good food. Went before a show. We enjoyed our food, service, and drinks. Unfortunately, the place left a bad taste in my mouth when the restaurant failed to award the 100 open table points we should have been awarded. Even though this occured, I will still provide a pretty good review."

  • "It was a reunion of sorts for my party. And both the food and atmosphere lived up the the billing my daughter, a patron when she worked in the area, gave it before I made the reservation. My guests, in town from Massachusetts, for a weekend of theater, were visibly impressed. Most significant, is that the staff gave us the time to spend catching up after 30 years. And, judging from how the place got busy as the afternoon wore on, there would have been little possibility of our nice table going unfilled if we left."
