A word from Nizza - NYC
Nizza is a casual Italian restaurant located in the heart of Hell's Kitchen. Chef Andy D'Amico uses the cuisine of the Italian Riviera as a starting point for his exploration of Italy. Our house speciality is our "Socca." Socca is a chick pea crepe baked in our brick oven, traditional to the French city of Nice. Our menu has a wonderful selection of antipasti, salads, soups, pizza, pasta and entrees. We were higlighted in 2008 "Cheap Eats" issues by Time Out New York and New York Magazine. As well as Time Out New York's Top 100 food items of 2008.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "This is our go-to pick for pre-theatre dining. We are one vegan and one omnivore. Our waitress always remembers us and knows to order our inevitable socca without cheese, but with it on the side for me. The fare is varied enough for both of our preferences, the atmosphere in the small space (although noisy) is busy and friendly, the staff attentive, and the food delicious. Plus it's just a short walk from where we park the car and the theatre for which we have a season subscription. Satisfies all our pre-theatre dining needs; we keep coming back!"

  • "I travel around the world and am in NY a dozen times a year for business. I was entertaining clients and from the beginning to the end it was an unpleasant experience. I never post reviews, so this is unusual. Service - very slow, not knowledgable and unexperienced servers. Food - poor. We really didn't like any of the appetizers or our meals. The quality is just not good. I can't recommend."

  • "This is a nice theater-district restaurant. Food was good & very reasonable. They did an especially great job with the gluten free, even bringing gluten free bread, and asking if anyone was gluten free as soon as we walked in. The eggplant appetizer was wonderful."

  • "This was the third time to Nizza. I love the Northern Italian with a twist. I ordered theSkate Fish in Piccata Sauce which was excellent. One friend had Linguine with White Clam Sauce which was very Good but the small amount pasta. Whats up? The prices are reasoneable for Manhattan and the quality is always very fine. There was a Lemon Ricotta Tortelloni which was delicate and quite delicious. It was a hot evening on 9th Ave and we weren't really feeling like a full course meal. The portions they dish out are figuring that you will have an appetizer and entre. But they are still on the small size. In Italy you expect that in many restaurants but this is the USA and people want a bit more."

  • "This was a wonderful choice for "before the show" dining. Close to the theater district, excellent service, very good food. The decor was pleasant, and the wine list was fun."

  • "Burrate for delicious. Ordered the Sunday Pasta and it was no better than Chef Boyardi...noodles was soggy and overcooked, sauce was flavorless and the meatballs...I am not sure what kind of meat they were made from but they were soft and had an odd taste. May be the worst spaghetti and meatballs I have ever eaten. Waitress was attentive and accommodating and the restaurant is located near the theatre district. Otherwise I would never eat there again. Maybe just ordered the wrong thing...but seriously...how hard is it the make a tasty Sunday Pasta?"

  • "We have been patrons of Nizza for several years. Great find. Small. Accessible, and after pre-theater rush, quite a pleasant, even romantic place. Excellent food choices from the Socca and eggplant involintini to the Banzino. One of the best gluten-free menus in the city. The service is friendly and attentive. We have had lunches, pre-theater and post-theater dinners there, and we will continue to do so. Worth the return."

  • "Food was delicious but portions were on the smaller size. Very good gluten free options."

  • "Loved the extensive gluten-free menu. Rarely are there so many options for GF that I feel the need to come back so I can try a different dish! Wish they had a children's menu."

  • "Staff very accommodating. Shrimp salad (on lunch menu) very fresh and delicious, and gluten-free bed, a yummy bonus. And we had a ringside seat to a World Cup game...with captions!"

  • "This was my 2nd visit to Nizza. I went in with high expectations since the 1st visit was so good. We went for a preshow dinner, the place was about 1/3 full. The waitress took our order and gave a good recommendation. When the food arrived, 2 servers delivered it. They promptly spilled a drink all over my wife and I. Accidents happen. We cleaned up as we sat in wet chairs, shoes and clothes. Once cleaned up, we finished dinner and prepared to leave, still wet. As I said, accidents happen, but what I didn't except was to have no one from the waitress to the manager to ignore it happened. No one came to check to see if everything was ok. I paid the check, left a reasonable tip since the food itself was good, but no 3rd visit for me."

  • "We had dinner at Nizza in late June. We went after a play, and our table was ready and waiting for us when we got there. This was our 2nd visit to Nizza, as we go to NYC once a year to get some "culture" as opposed to our home in SW Florida. The meal and service was very good. We like the food and the casual atmosphere that Nizza exudes. We will definitely be back!"

  • "We were staying on 8th Ave but someone recommended we go to 9th Ave for less expensive food and a neighborhood feel. That was good advice and this restaurant was a good find. We sat just inside but had the benefit of the open air and people-watching. I had the eggplant Parmesan appetizer (enough for a light appetite) and my companion had the pasta dish with shrimp and a light sauce. She noted that there were hardly any snow peas in the dish so the waitress brought her a side of them to add. Our total bill, which included two martins, Cameron about $50. Service was very good."

  • "The best gluten free menu anywhere! My husband and I go to Nizza every time we are in the city. Have never been disappointed."

  • "On my second visit , Nizza was just as excellent as the first time."

  • "Nizza is one of my favorite places. Its delicious food, tasteful decor and exemplary service offer a fine-dining experience that won't break the bank. I would recommend it to anyone for a leisurely dinner, a romantic date night or a quick bite before the theatre. Thank you, Nizza!"

  • "Pre-dinner bread was good, but my chicken milanese main course looked good but lacked taste, even after waitress said it was the most popular chicken dish on the menu. I wouldn't order it again. I also tasted the "most popular pasta dish" according to same waitress--their spaghetti and meatballs--and it too was only mediocre. So I can't recommend the main courses. The two desserts, chocolate cake with (ice) cream and strudel with (ice) cream, however, were on a totally different level than any of the other food and were outstanding. I would go there for the outdoor ambience--eat outside by the sidewalk, as we did--and for the desserts, but the rest of the food that needs considerable improvement."

  • "Nizza has a separate gluten free menu with a good amount of options compared to other restaurants. They even bring out gluten free bread. I've only been there twice but I've never been disappointed and I've never had a reaction to anything I've eaten."

  • "Between the dried out chicken on the Caesar salad and the odd eggs benedict there really isn't too much to rave about. Nothing more to say."

  • "Nizza was a go-to place for us whenever we came to the City. Great socca, decent glass of wine, good service and intimate. Maybe this time was a bad blip on the radar but I was disappointed. We waited for almost 10 minutes at the table before my husband finally asked the hostess if we could at least get a glass of water. The appetizer menu was still great: socca, calamari (fabulous) but the main course food was lamentable. The linguine was over-cooked, the sausages were tough, the monkfish had a sauce that was less buttery and more like sad gravy-- thickened glaze, like it had been sitting too long. The dessert was great and the cappuccino was dreamy. Soooo .... for dessert, or a quick bite --ABSOLUTELY. But skip dinner."

  • "This restaurant was ok. It was not the best, but the prices were decent. My friends found their dinners to be good, however mine was sort of a let down. I started with the caprese salad, which was good except I found a piece of plastic (probably from a container) in it. The gnocchi I had after was overcooked. However, the desserts were really good! "

  • "The day we went for lunch the "grill" was broken so the menu was extremely limited. We couldn't even order pasta as they couldn't boil water. Somehow we were able to order the shrimp scampi so didn't quite make sense. They should have just closed until it was fixed, or at least told us upon entering."

  • "My friend and I decided to try Nizza for an early evening dinner. I ordered lasagna and found it delicious, if somewhat small in portion compared to the price. My friend ordered the Pansoti and thought it needed more sauce and lacked flavor. We both ordered pistachio Gelati E Sorbetti for dessert, but sadly, it was flavorless as well as icy, grainy, and chunky in texture--more like ice cream than the smooth gelato we expected."

  • "As a person with celiac disease and a theatre-lover, I eat at Nizza almost every time I visit NYC. Their food is wonderful, and their GF menu is extensive. Their servers really understand gluten. The restaurant even offers GF bread! It is conveniently located for before- or after-theatre dining. Best to make a reservation, if you want to get in, because this restaurant is very popular!"

  • "The food was good, not great, but the prices were reasonable. The service was slow. I don't think it was my waitress' fault, I think she had too many tables. I had the salmon which was very good, my friends all had the Sunday Pasta which they said was good but not great. I'd go back."

  • "NIZZA is a neighborhood gem which I return to again and again. The food is consistently good and the service is friendly. It's also a great alternative to more expensive and LOUD touristy restaurants in the neighborhood. Nizza is small, classy, and very good value."

  • "On recommendation by a neighbor who works in the area we chose Nizza for Mother's Day and were very pleased! Very lucky to get a table outside on a gorgeous evening. Food was delicious, price reasonable but portions small. Enough for me but for someone with hearty appetite maybe not so much. Definitely would return and have recommended tofriends. It's a popular place and you should definitely make a reservation."

  • "Party of 4 - the waitress came as soon as we were seated asking about drinks. after bringing water, she didn't take our food order for 20-25 minutes. We had to ask different waiters a few times if and when we can place our order. Food was decent, service wasn't at all"

  • "Our server was outstanding. She was attentive while not hovering. Food is always good."

  • "The food was mediocre here, and the look and feel of the restaurant was much more sophisticated in the online photography I saw before booking. The service was OK, our waitress was attentive, but the support staff delivered a cold espresso and could not get our coffee orders correct and we had to re-order. One plus for gluten free eaters is that they do cater to 'special needs' dining."

  • "we ate there may 3 ,2014although the food was good, i idea of charging 6.75 extra for full asparagus over the cut ones is clearly a overcharge, not to mention we ordered theFresh Berries & Zabaglione and what we got was berries and whipped cream . i use to frequent this place very often, guess they don't need customers . guess i'll have to start giving other places a shot for my business"

  • "overall food was good along with the service, monk fish was cooked just right, however they are cutting up the vegetables rather than leaving them whole which kinda cheapens the dish"

  • "Pleasant experience from start to finish. Had the Caesar. Not traditional. Dressed with a red wine vinaigrette on really fresh romaine. Really good salad. Had the lasagne bolognese which was very flavorful and just the right size. Waiter made a perfect wine accompaniment and was a pleasure to work with. I would definitely to back. "
