A word from Nizza - NYC
Nizza is a casual Italian restaurant located in the heart of Hell's Kitchen. Chef Andy D'Amico uses the cuisine of the Italian Riviera as a starting point for his exploration of Italy. Our house speciality is our "Socca." Socca is a chick pea crepe baked in our brick oven, traditional to the French city of Nice. Our menu has a wonderful selection of antipasti, salads, soups, pizza, pasta and entrees. We were higlighted in 2008 "Cheap Eats" issues by Time Out New York and New York Magazine. As well as Time Out New York's Top 100 food items of 2008.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "I will say the food was very good, it was our first time there and we will be back. The only negative was the noise level, it was so loud we could not even hear ourselves talk. You are not rushed but you can be in and out quickly."

  • "Food (gluten free or not) was excellent. Normal size portions which were just perfect. What a treat to have gluten free bread delivered to the table pre meal! Great for a pre show meal as well."

  • "Nizza is a great place for gluten free diners--and everyone else too. The chick pea crust pizzas are awesome and VERY filling. Service is always good and it's perfect for pre-theater."

  • "Located in busy area of Hell's kitchen, the restaurant offers a great variety of italian cuisine dishes. Could be packed and long waiting time is not unheard of, but definitely worth it to wait a little. Warm chocolate cake with some ice-cream on top was a great addition to the meal."

  • "Discovered Nizza a couple of years back after finding ourselves hungry and on the street following a matinee which ended earlier than expected. Most restautants don't open until 5:00 PM, which is fine for evening play goers, but not so good for matinee audiences who are looking for a serious place to eat as early as 4:00 PM. The food and service have always been excellent, and we return often whenever we're attending theater in the area. The customers tend to be a diverse group which speaks well of Nizza's ability to create an inviting environment for everyone."

  • "First time to this restaurant with a friend. For an Italian restaurant, we found the food was just average in preparation and taste. Very busy. Need more wait staff. Tables are crowded togther. There are a lot of restaurants on Ninth Ave., so I would recommend one that is not as frantic for a relaxing meal. Smile"

  • "Second visit with teenagers. Great food but the lamb dish is the winner. Make sure to book a table. Tables near patio doors in summer are great."

  • "I eat gluten free because I have too. It is wonderful to find Nizza with all of the options it gives me to eat GF. I especially enjoy the GF bread option. I enjoy all of the dishes that I have eaten. I would really like it if Nizza improved their dessert options as they are weak. Overall I go to Nizza on a regular basis. Thank you"

  • "We went here for our anniversary dinner. The food was great and we enjoyed the view of the street from our table - great people watching spot. Small outdoor seating area on sidewalk."

  • "There were plenary of choices on the menu. Food was hot. Pizza was perfectly cooked and not over seasoned. The place was packed."

  • "This was an ok place for pre-theater dinner. Pizza was tasty, wine ok, and pretty noisy. I'd recommend this for a pre-theater dinner because of the location and relatively modest cost (for NYC) but not for a more leisurely dinner."

  • "Convenient theater district dining but not the best choice. Extremely loud, forcing a large party to break into twosomes for conversation. Mediocre pizza - too much dough, not enough topping. Decent service and ambience but the food doesn't measure up."

  • "Love it here. Can't go two weeks without it. Quattro formaggi pizza And the best burratta I've ever had"

  • "They had a great gluten-free menu (made to be gluten-free, not eliminating or substituting). The restaurant was hot, cramped, tiny table, and the wine was pretty bad."

  • "Nizza is a gorgeous little place. It is cozy, with tons of character. Food is good. The inside is open to the outside."

  • "Food was mediocre at best and the service was terrible. Had to remind waitress twice for a drinks order we placed and the bread we asked for several times never arrived. The chicken paillard had one piece of mozzarella, the lardons on the kale salad were burnt to a crisp and the chicken in both dishes was overcooked. Picked this spot specifically for the gluten free option but with so many other great gluten free restaurants in the city I would neither recommend nor return."

  • "I travel around the world and am in NY a dozen times a year for business. I was entertaining clients and from the beginning to the end it was an unpleasant experience. I never post reviews, so this is unusual. Service - very slow, not knowledgable and unexperienced servers. Food - poor. We really didn't like any of the appetizers or our meals. The quality is just not good. I can't recommend."

  • "This is a nice theater-district restaurant. Food was good & very reasonable. They did an especially great job with the gluten free, even bringing gluten free bread, and asking if anyone was gluten free as soon as we walked in. The eggplant appetizer was wonderful."

  • "Burrate for delicious. Ordered the Sunday Pasta and it was no better than Chef Boyardi...noodles was soggy and overcooked, sauce was flavorless and the meatballs...I am not sure what kind of meat they were made from but they were soft and had an odd taste. May be the worst spaghetti and meatballs I have ever eaten. Waitress was attentive and accommodating and the restaurant is located near the theatre district. Otherwise I would never eat there again. Maybe just ordered the wrong thing...but seriously...how hard is it the make a tasty Sunday Pasta?"

  • "This was a wonderful choice for "before the show" dining. Close to the theater district, excellent service, very good food. The decor was pleasant, and the wine list was fun."

  • "We have been patrons of Nizza for several years. Great find. Small. Accessible, and after pre-theater rush, quite a pleasant, even romantic place. Excellent food choices from the Socca and eggplant involintini to the Banzino. One of the best gluten-free menus in the city. The service is friendly and attentive. We have had lunches, pre-theater and post-theater dinners there, and we will continue to do so. Worth the return."

  • "Loved the extensive gluten-free menu. Rarely are there so many options for GF that I feel the need to come back so I can try a different dish! Wish they had a children's menu."

  • "Staff very accommodating. Shrimp salad (on lunch menu) very fresh and delicious, and gluten-free bed, a yummy bonus. And we had a ringside seat to a World Cup game...with captions!"

  • "This was the third time to Nizza. I love the Northern Italian with a twist. I ordered theSkate Fish in Piccata Sauce which was excellent. One friend had Linguine with White Clam Sauce which was very Good but the small amount pasta. Whats up? The prices are reasoneable for Manhattan and the quality is always very fine. There was a Lemon Ricotta Tortelloni which was delicate and quite delicious. It was a hot evening on 9th Ave and we weren't really feeling like a full course meal. The portions they dish out are figuring that you will have an appetizer and entre. But they are still on the small size. In Italy you expect that in many restaurants but this is the USA and people want a bit more."

  • "This was my 2nd visit to Nizza. I went in with high expectations since the 1st visit was so good. We went for a preshow dinner, the place was about 1/3 full. The waitress took our order and gave a good recommendation. When the food arrived, 2 servers delivered it. They promptly spilled a drink all over my wife and I. Accidents happen. We cleaned up as we sat in wet chairs, shoes and clothes. Once cleaned up, we finished dinner and prepared to leave, still wet. As I said, accidents happen, but what I didn't except was to have no one from the waitress to the manager to ignore it happened. No one came to check to see if everything was ok. I paid the check, left a reasonable tip since the food itself was good, but no 3rd visit for me."

  • "We were staying on 8th Ave but someone recommended we go to 9th Ave for less expensive food and a neighborhood feel. That was good advice and this restaurant was a good find. We sat just inside but had the benefit of the open air and people-watching. I had the eggplant Parmesan appetizer (enough for a light appetite) and my companion had the pasta dish with shrimp and a light sauce. She noted that there were hardly any snow peas in the dish so the waitress brought her a side of them to add. Our total bill, which included two martins, Cameron about $50. Service was very good."

  • "Nizza is one of my favorite places. Its delicious food, tasteful decor and exemplary service offer a fine-dining experience that won't break the bank. I would recommend it to anyone for a leisurely dinner, a romantic date night or a quick bite before the theatre. Thank you, Nizza!"

  • "We had dinner at Nizza in late June. We went after a play, and our table was ready and waiting for us when we got there. This was our 2nd visit to Nizza, as we go to NYC once a year to get some "culture" as opposed to our home in SW Florida. The meal and service was very good. We like the food and the casual atmosphere that Nizza exudes. We will definitely be back!"

  • "Pre-dinner bread was good, but my chicken milanese main course looked good but lacked taste, even after waitress said it was the most popular chicken dish on the menu. I wouldn't order it again. I also tasted the "most popular pasta dish" according to same waitress--their spaghetti and meatballs--and it too was only mediocre. So I can't recommend the main courses. The two desserts, chocolate cake with (ice) cream and strudel with (ice) cream, however, were on a totally different level than any of the other food and were outstanding. I would go there for the outdoor ambience--eat outside by the sidewalk, as we did--and for the desserts, but the rest of the food that needs considerable improvement."

  • "Nizza was a go-to place for us whenever we came to the City. Great socca, decent glass of wine, good service and intimate. Maybe this time was a bad blip on the radar but I was disappointed. We waited for almost 10 minutes at the table before my husband finally asked the hostess if we could at least get a glass of water. The appetizer menu was still great: socca, calamari (fabulous) but the main course food was lamentable. The linguine was over-cooked, the sausages were tough, the monkfish had a sauce that was less buttery and more like sad gravy-- thickened glaze, like it had been sitting too long. The dessert was great and the cappuccino was dreamy. Soooo .... for dessert, or a quick bite --ABSOLUTELY. But skip dinner."

  • "Nizza has a separate gluten free menu with a good amount of options compared to other restaurants. They even bring out gluten free bread. I've only been there twice but I've never been disappointed and I've never had a reaction to anything I've eaten."
