Niwana reviews from OpenTable diners
  • We discovered Niwana simply

We discovered Niwana simply by searching for someplace to eat in the area and we're glad we did. The service was excellent and very personal, and my wife and I both enjoyed the food very much. The food and bar menu are both extensive and worth exploring. I particularly enjoyed the Kalbi (Korean short ribs) and my wife liked the sushi very much.

We ordered the Dolsot Bibimbamp, haemul paejon (seafood pancake), calamari, and the soon tofu. This place some great haemul paejon and the calamari is alright. The soon tofu was good, but I've definitely been to better places where its still boiling when they get it to you and you can put in your own egg. Still, not bad. There's also a sushi bar by the entrance. We happened to come in a night when the Ravens were playing. If you go one of these nights, you should expect intermittent outbursts during the dining experience.

The BEST lunch ever!!!!! My husband and I went for lunch and enjoyed every minute! We ordered shrimp tempura and I also had a taste for salmon tempura (which wasn't officially on the menu). The chef was able to make the salmon tempura for me and it was AWESOME! We're already planning our next lunch date here 3

The food far surpasses the ambience. I picked the restaurant because of its location to meet a friend and was a little nervous when I saw the restaurant from the outside. It looked like a dive bar. Fortunately, I went inside to check it out before going somewhere else. Once you get past the bar area, there is a nice restaurant area in the back, basic but comfortable. The waiter was friendly and the Bul Gogi was delicious.

  • We were pretty displeased

We were pretty displeased with our experience. It took an extremely long time for the food to arrive- this was the 2nd time that we went to Niwana; the first time we left before our food arrived because it took so long. We went again only because we had a gift certificate. In addition, the chicken teriyaki was nothing like one would expect.

Nice place... Food was well prepared and delicious. Great Sake list. The green tea ice cream was a nice way to end the meal.

We sat in the back with a large crowd. The waiter forgot about us multiple times. With three kids a meal should not take over two hours. The restaurant was not that busy when we got there but it still took a very long time to be served.
