Diner Reviews
  • "We travelled to New York from Cleveland. After attending the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in Brooklyn, we transitioned to Muse to see Motown. Our dinner at Nios was an impeccable highlight of our weekend. The appetizers and entrees were innovative and delicious. They reserved the dessert portion of the price fixe menu for us until after the show. Paired with a nightcap, it was the polish on a perfect evening. Wonderful is an understatement for the entire Nios experience. We can't wait to return the next time we travel to The Big Apple!"

  • "If you want dinner before a Broadway show, and are tired of eating on restaurant row, just across Broadway tucked into the Muse Hotel is Nios, a great place to go. Great drinks, (try the Eleanor Roosevelt),great food, ( Lobster sliders), or just order a cheese plate and olives, Nothing disappoints"

  • "Nice small restaurant - good food, great service! Liked the personal attention - which you dont always get at large restaurants. Great Theater Menu! A bit on the dark side but overall nice ambience."

  • "The menu allows either 3-course prix fixe or ala carte. They allowed us to have 2 appetizers and then split an entree. The bass was quite good! I'd go back, but there are soooo many great choices in midtown, who knows."

  • "Had a very pleasant "power lunch" before a matinee at the Pells theater across the street. The servers were professional and friendly. Started off with a pumpkin bisque topped with fresh apple and toasted seeds. Followed this with the Mediterranean flat bread pizza -also fresh ingredients and tasty. This was accompanied by a glass of the house pinot grigio. At $25 was a bargain. The room is comfortable and quiet. This would also be a great place to just stop in for a glass of wine and small plates."

  • "Again, I wanted a good meal before I and my 2 daughters went to a play. I picked this restaurant because of it's location to the theater and was not disappointed. The food was excellent! We all had a different entrée. We had no problem choosing from the varied dishes on the menu and we each concurred our dish was deleicious. Without rushing (we had dinner reservations for 6:30p.m.), we enjoyed our meal and got to the theater around the block in plenty of time."

  • "Could be good pre theatre based on location. Food was very good. Service was erratic & inattentive"

  • "The octopus and scallop appy was sandy. Unfortunately I had scallops as an entree also and they were sandy too. They did take the appy off the bill. I have gone here in the past and it was very good. I will try it one more time."

  • "For starters, as a wine bar, it was surprising a bottle of white I ordered wasn't chilled, but they did offer a couple of glasses in the house while they out a bottle in ice. The food was mediocre. Cheese plate was nice, actually. But the other items we ordered were uninspiring, not hot (temperature) enough. And the salad was not very fresh. Interesting interior design, however."

  • "This spot had a nice atmosphere but the entrance was a bit hidden and there is no hostess stand.we went on a Thursday evening and it was not busy at all but service was very slow.our side dishes came before our entrees by a good 15 mins. and the food was just warm. Overall, I won't be back considering all of the other great places to eat around NYC."

  • "Great for real food in the Theatre District; food is interesting, varied, and really delicious! The bathrooms are a riot, too."

  • "My husband and I had a thoroughly enjoyable meal at NIOS prior to a concert at Carnegie Hall. The modern decor is quite attractive, the $48 prix-fixe menu is a true bargain, and the staff is courteous and efficient. The menu selections are varied and tempting -- it was almost difficult to make choices. We both enjoyed an appetizer of smoked duck that was beautifully presented, a main course of delicious sliced strip steak that was perfectly cooked and accompanied by interesting ingredients, and a sizable portion of tasty apple tarte tatin with ice cream for desert. The wine list had many good offerings by the bottle or glass. There are many restaurants in this part of midtown Manhattan, but NIOS is surely one of the best."

  • "We had the prix fixe menu - amazing . Would return again."

  • "We stuck with the small plates. Our food was generally good. The brussel sprouts needed a bit more seasoning and the "disco" fries were so salty I couldn't eat them. The mini burgers were simply amazing. One of the best I have had. The wine list had a good selection. Some were priced well while others were way overpriced. So overall I guess this was hit and miss."

  • "I've had two pre-theater dinners at Nios and always enjoy the food; but both times, we never made it to the pre-fixe dessert as a result of timing. 10 minutes before the curtain is too late to bring another course. Great foo, however and perfect Roundabout location."

  • "The food would have been excellent, but both of our appetizers and entrees arrived at room temperature. The server never smiled or in any way made us feel welcome. The quality is good for the price, but the management really needs to work on the details that make all the difference. the restuarant has potential, but I don't think we'll be back until they make an effort to appear that they want us there."

  • "I made a reservation at NIOS for a birthday dinner with my cousin. I was very pleased with the atmosphere, service and food. I would definitely recommend the tempura shrimp and truffle fries. They were perfect as starters."

  • "Although NOIS has a nice decor and interesting looking menu, the reality was less than satisfactory. The starter was served tepid and probably sat under the heat lamp too long. Our main course got lost somewhere in the kitchen and we had to flag down the server and floor manager to track it down and get it restarted. When it finally came, the flavor and spicing was very average. The delay and fair food made this an unpleasant experience, not worth the money."

  • "This restaurant provided excellent service, food, and wine. Our waiter was very attentive and the bartender provided complimentary cocktails. Additionally, we received a complimentary appetizer. An excellent choice and one we would visit again!"

  • "We were reluctant to dine at a restaurant within the hotel, but NIOS at The Muse is not to be missed. The meal was outstanding. One of those that you want the others at the table to taste and share. The service was attentive and welcoming. They handled a food allergy with ease."

  • "Noisy restaurant associated with the excellent hotel Muse, waiter was attentive but grumpy, they ignored the message that this was a birthday celebration which they knew of on the reservation confirmation. Witnessed constant arguments with manager and staff. Did not have the wine we wanted and the bartender swore at the manager about this loud enough for us to hear 20 feet away in this noisy restaurant. Could be nice if better managed as the food was good."

  • "If you are like me, the thought of finding a reasonably-priced, non-touristy restaurant in the theater district fills you with dread. Look no further than NIOS! Pleasant, small, and quiet, you can get a good, tasty pre-or-post show meal without dealing with typical Times Square nonsense. Food was well prepared and filling. Service was pleasant, drinks were well made. Only a few tables, so reservations are strongly recommended."

  • "Picked this place for proximity to the theater and good reviews...! Variety and freshness of ingredients were creatively combined to make for a special and memorable meal. Duck appetizer was excellent and the salmon entree was equal to the best anywhere. My companions felt the steak was a bit tough, so maybe room for improvement there. Desserts were not quite up to the standard of the savory courses, at least the bread pudding and the sticky pudding. My daughter had the pumpkin cheesecake and found it excellent. Service was very good and the $48 prix fixe 3 course meal was expensive but not outrageous. Just what it should be for the quality of the ingredients and the skill of preparation."

  • "Stopped in at last minute without reservations Very accommodating with excellent staff Appetizers and main course on the price fixe were excellent Wine list is limited and deserts were average"

  • "THe service which was actually in the bar area was so terrible. It took forvever to place our order. The first course arrived in a timely fashion and that was the last we saw of a waiter for a long time. It probaly took a half hour for the entree to arrive after the appetizer was cleared and aagin after the entree was finished. We had reservations post theater at 8:15. THe main dining room was taken with a large dinner party. Apparently they were very understaffed."

  • "We dined here before our show. The pre-fixe dinner was excellent and at $48 you can't beat that in New York. We were a little late for our reservation so we informed our wait staff that we had a curtain in an hour and he made sure to get us out in enough time. I enjoyed the black bass dish and the salad was delish!! Will definitely be back again."

  • "We went this restaurant before the theater. We had gone to the restaurant before it became Nios. Now, it is less crowded and more expensive. The menu is limited. The food and experience was acceptable, not memorable."

  • "within Muse Hotel a wine bar gem w/ a kitchen that loves . A lavender vinaigrette beet salad w/crumbled goat cheese & apple wanted a return of the warm pretzel bread rolls - both pieces disappeared before the pre dinner wine & salads . A frisee of mushrooms and manchego would have welcomed the same courtesey. Seafood risotto w/ lobster coulis was light and memory making as was wild salmon & grilled root veggies. Save room for dessert; hazelnut gelato escorted both the bread puuding and sticky pudding. Llimited tea selection served nicely with honey closed the evening along w & check precluded after dinner drink at the table. There was no rush for tables and two remained uncleared; staff would benefit from more attentiveness."

  • "highly energetic bar / restaurant in the Muse hotel. Conveniently located for eating dinner prior to seeing a show. Enjoyed the prefix menu for $48. The appetizer, main entree, and dessert were fantastic and many selections to choose from. Would definitely go back again to enjoy other items in the future."

  • "I don't believe the server (Miguel) smiled once or spoke audibly at all. He also never checked back once after serving a dish to see how it was. The amount if time between courses was ridiculously long even after we finished a course we waited another 15 minutes for the next to come out. The medium rate strip steak we ordered came out Medium well (probably from siting for 15 minutes to be served). Had he checked back on us before clearing our plates we would have said something but being now late for our show because everything was so slow we had no choice but to eat it and deal with lackluster food as well as service. Will not go back again."

  • "We stayed at the Muse 6 years ago and ate at NIOS once, which we liked well enough. Not at the Muse this trip. Since then completely remodeled and new menu. Food was outstanding. Nice size portions. Party of six, we were seated in the rear room, away form the bar, so fairly quite. Great service. Delightful food. Reasonalble prices. Told the waiter we had an 8:00 pm curtain and he moved things along."

  • "We are excited about adding Nios to our Broadway theatre dining options especially when we are not going west of 7th Avenue. The food was terrific. Our only complaint was we ordered a very good bottle of white wine ($75) and it was not served chilled enough. By the time it was chilled, our waiter had already poured most of it for us."

  • "This is a small restaurant in a hotel. Not where I usually expect to get the best of food or service. However, both the food and service were excellent . If you are going to Times Square or a broadway play give this place a try. You will not be disappointed"
