Diner Reviews
  • "We chose nines to celebrate several family birthdays-two adult and one child. The Playdium was a hit with both adults and children--what a great idea! Most of our adult guests chose from the fish fry menu, and although they were unanimously voted "good" all diners had the same impression that the fish was a little on the "fishier" side (both the baked cod and the walleye). The fries were a bit underdone--but the breadbasket and coleslaw received rave reviews. The view is wonderful, and tables are adequately spaced so conversational volume is adequate, even with a full Friday night. Service was attentive and pleasant, although our waters were never refilled. Glad we tried nines and will definitely be back."

  • "I dined here with three friends and we ordered a variety of appetizers and salads to share plus dessert. The wait stuff was wonderful, helpful with suggestions and very attentive. Most of the plates were good to very good the exception being the ahi tuna which, unfortunately was just ok. Very bland with no accompanying sauce to liven it up. Desserts were very nice, especially the lemon tart. We also ordered a bottle of the Willamette Valley Pinot Noir that was excellent. "

  • "Went to Nines American Bistro this past weekend. We had a very good meal. My steak was cooked perfectly. Our server was knowledgeable and her service was excellent. We eat here often and are never disappointed!!!!"

  • "Strap your self in and prepare for an unbelievable story. This restaurant is a disaster. It had some problems when it first opened and we have avoided it for about 1 year. We decided to try it again on Saturday night. To make a long story short, the 2 glasses of wine that we ordered at 7:35, showed up as only one glass. The appetizers that were ordered at 7:45 showed up at 8:30. The waiter disappeared for 20 minute stretches at a time (the place was no more than 20% full). The Dinner that we ordered at 7:45 did not show up at all after 1 hour and 45 minutes elapsed time. We finally got up and left. This place has serious problems. At 63 years of age, I have NEVER had to get up and leave a place because what we ordered did not show up."

  • "The food others ordered at my table looked fantastic. The dish I ordered: the walleye fillet was pretty bland and unimpressive so I shouldn't base my entire review of the restaurant based on that. The service from our waitress was moderate, but when I came a few months ago just to meet someone at the bar, our bartender was fabulous, so I will also reserve condemning the whole place based on one person's perhaps off-night. The bar, dining room, and view are all fantastic and are worth the trip for that alone. The Caesar side salad my meal started with was also particularly good so I should mention that!"

  • "Stopped in for brunch and had a great time! I liked the variety of the brunch - it had everything from the typical eggs, hash browns and bacon/sausage to shrimp and mussels to a chocolate fondue fountain."

  • "7 of us came for brunch for my dad's 81st birthday. There was something for everyone, elegantly displayed and delicious! And only $19.99 per person ($9.99 for kids). It is a great deal. You get cruise-quality food at a neighborhood café price!"

  • "We recently celebrated my father's birthday with brunch at Nines. The variety of food was very good, as was the overall quality (it's not often you see mussels at a brunch buffet). It was fairly busy and I was impressed at the rate they replenished the more popular items. The place itself is in a gorgeous setting and the room we were in was spacious and bright. Service was a little slow, and they seemed to be understaffed for the crowd. The only complaint I have is that the dirty plates weren't cleared often enough at our table. A minor thing as we really enjoyed Nines and will definitely be back!"

  • "The new menu at Nines American Bistro is creative and varied. It's nice when there are so many good options that it's hard to decide which to order. We started with a delicious crab cake appetizer followed by flavorful Caesar salads with garlic croutons. Both were excellent, and we're looking forward to returning and trying the Pear and Goat Cheese and the Roasted Beet salads. For our entrées we had the miso glazed tuna and the pan seared salmon and agreed that we'd be happy with both again. They were served with an amazing black rice and were beautifully plated. The new ambiance is relaxed yet sophisticated. The picture windows overlook the golf course — if you don't have a window table, the room still has a warm, welcoming energy."

  • "We have been dining at nines periodically for the past year and we have really noticed a difference in the service and the food. It is fantastic. We heard from the manager that there is a new menu coming out that sounds amazing. It sounds like they have really up the quality of staff and food and we will definitely put this back on our favorite spot list again! Nice to finally have a quality option in Mequon. The steak I had was amazing, you can tell it is quality and not full of MSG like some of the other popular steak houses. The wines by the glass list is awesome and our service was fantastic! Thank you nines for an enjoyable night."

  • "I remember going to brunch as a kid with my family. This one has the same setup and is very reasonable. Nice atmosphere too. Food was very good. Lots of choices on the MTO omelettes. Servers could be a bit more attentive. When coming to the table, I expect to have the dirty plates cleared. Also not sure about the "get your own coffee" part. It would be nicer if it was served. We had an incident during our dining where my wife had 2 mimosas spilled on her. The waiter was apologetic and attentive. Accidents happen. 2 meals were comp'd. Thank you. However, a manager came to the table and asked how the dining was and never mentioned the spill. I expected an apology from management and an explanation of what they would do for us."

  • "My husband and I celebrated Valentines Day by having dinner at this local gem of a restaurant. We had a wonderful dinner. The atmosphere in the bar while we waited for our table was fun and lively, there was a nice Jazz band playing. The dining room was decorated beautifully and the food was good. The only minor negative, was when we arrived and indicated to the hostess we had a dinner reservation we were asked to wait a few minutes at the bar. No problem, however, after about twenty minutes my husband returned to the hostess and asked how much longer we would need to wait to be seated. She then proceeded to seat us immediately. We wondered that if we hadn't asked, would we have been seated? Overall great experience."

  • "We really enjoyed the new menu. I had read that they have a tendency to rush the courses, and they didn't disappoint. The rush wasn't too bad, but we were definitely moving quickly!"

  • "The Nines offers a swanky environment that doesn't feel stuffy. Great food and a wine list as well. One of our favorite go-to's."

  • "We went for Valentine's Day but we have also been there just for a casual every day meal. Great to go as a couple or with family. We had a special menu on V-Day, but good variety in regular menu."

  • "A little surprised as a River Club Member to be placed in the corner way off the main dining room. When we arrived there was plenty of open seating, but the staff seemed to be filling the least desirable seating first. So much for making early reservations. Food was good, server did a nice job of making us feel welcome."

  • "Took my husband to the nines for his birthday. It was awesome. The food was delish. I had the salmon, he had the filet. Just incredible. They brought him a wonderful chocolate cake. Our waiter Arthur was outstanding! He was very welcoming, attentive but not overbearing....just a really nice person. Thanks you Nines for making my husbands birthday so nice."

  • "We brought friends on a week night so the restaurant was not crowded. We were dining with a toddler and infant and had requested a table off to the side since we didn't know how the toddler would be during dinner. There were 6 adults in our party and all of us were very happy with our dinner. We were doted on by the staff and they went out of their way to keep our toddler happy. Our large table was in a quiet corner by the windows and we had a beautiful view. Our friends were impressed with both the meal and service."

  • "We had a very nice dinner for two on Saturday night. Valet parking! A nice touch on a cold night. The Small Plate menu was perfect for my wife after appetizers and salad. Excellent addition to a menu. I wish more restaurants had that option. The waiter was very attentive. If I had to say one negative it felt a bit rushed. I prefer to finish a course before the next one comes to the table. Still, I would recommend nines to everyone."

  • "It was nice that the restaurant was not crowded with the typical Friday crowds at other restaurants. We had a reservation for 6:00 pm, arrived early and had a drink at the bar. The bartenders were very friendly and helpful with the beer selection. Food was good to very good (chicken enchilada on the trio plate not so good). Filet and ravioli were very good. The fish dinner was a bit on the small side, but was good. The restaurant was a bit open with tables floating, I would have liked to see some booth area for a little more privacy. Waiting staff were friendly, but I thought for this type of restaurant, they would be dressed a little more formal. All in all a nice quite Friday night dinner and would recommend Nine's to others."

  • "Wow... we have not been to nines for a few months and we were blown away by the food and service we received. Our server told us they have a new menu coming out at the end of February that sounds awesome with great steaks and seafood, entree salads and sandwiches. We will definitely be back!"

  • "The food was good service was okay but I was extremely disappointed in the atmosphere. It was kids night and it was very loud. I was expecting a quiet ambient dinner but it was overshadowed by the noise level. Wouldn't recommend going on a Wednesday night. I felt I overpaid for what I thought was going to be a great experience."

  • "We visited on a Wednesday, which is a wine promotion night; 50% off up to $30 on bottles of wine. We were out to celebrate our first grandchild. When we were seated, we noticed a large number of families with small children. It was a little noisy, but the kids were obviously having a good time. We finally realized that Wednesday is also "kids eat free" night! So it was a fun addition for our reason to celebrate. The service was good. Alhough our waiter was not too experienced, he was attentive and quick to honor our requests. The squash bisque was delicious, but the portion could have been bigger. I had a blackened salmon sandwich which was fantastic. The wine list was not extensive, but had lots of great selections and a wide price range."

  • "This restaurant would be fine if you were a club member and just enjoyed the amenity of having access to an on-site restaurant or for your family to have privlieges there. As a retail restaurant, the service is sub-par with untrained young wait staff that has very little attention, managment or training afforded to them judging by the way we were served each of the 4 times that we have eaten at nines. Beautiful place with nice surroundings and really nice bar. You can tell they try but the service faults make the experience only fair."

  • "My wife and I happened to find this place on Open Table. I travel to this are often on business, but had never been to this restaurant. What a treat! Great menu, great service, and if you like good wine, this is the place you should be. The manager was very helpful and gracious. We will be back as often as possible. In fact, we went there both nights we were in the area."

  • "This restaurant is fantastic. The menu is different, but in a very good way. The wine and drink selection is fantastic. Accommodations for kids are the best in town and the service is top notch. If you have a chance, go to this restaurant."

  • "the nines has become our go-to place for celebrations, especially with the kids. it was our 7-yr-old's choice to go there to celebrate his birthday. he's partial to the chicken fingers and of course loves the Playdium. Our waiter Steve gave him extra-special attention and brought him a surprise dessert! As usual, the grownups in the group found the food wonderful. I love the creative soups and their satisfying dinner salads. We will be back -- the location is extremely convenient for us."

  • "New Years Eve, food took an hour and 30min to receive however the manager waived the entire meal for our group. Valet left before closing. No one knew where their vehicles were, had to go in valet cabinet to get our own keys, and find our vehicle. Once we located our vehicle we discovered the Valet left our lights on and our battery died. The manager found us jumper cables and got us on our way before midnight on New Years Eve! I think the things that made it a challenging night were rare and isolated situations. I would return. The food was great. I would just park my own vehicle!"
