A word from Nine Thirty
NINE THIRTY’s interior features large, exposed spaces harmoniously paired with an industrial, concrete feel. Deep red velvet curtains warmly invite you into the space, while an outdoor patio allows al fresco dining. Looking up, mismatched Edison light bulbs peek through large, spiraled metal wiring, creating the illusion of an abstract chandelier.
The evolving menu brings together bold flavors with American farm-fresh ingredients under the direction of Executive Chef Dakota Weiss and is paired with an eclectic assortment of boutique wines from around the world, with emphasis on local California wineries. Beer and cocktails, including an impressive list of signature martinis and artisnal beers are also available.

Happy Hour:Mon-Sun 5-6pm offers 1/2 price wines by the glass, featured cocktails and beers.

Diner Reviews
  • " Four adults women shared four of the excellent starters and were full. The lamb, deviled eggs, sweet potato fries, and the sourdough boule with goat cheese were more than enough. Excellent service. About $65 in total, or $20 a person with tip. We will be back."

  • "Food was good, somewhat pricey, but what was especially good, was we were a group of six and could hear ourselves talk. It is a good choice after a Geffen matinee - one can stroll over after a performance."

  • "All the food was almost inedible. The server misled us about the preparation of the sea bass. We asked if it was fried. She said it wasn't. Turns out it was pan fried and dry and tasteless as cardboard. The mussels were overcooked, with way too much garlic. The black cod was slimy and swimming in grease. The manager was reluctant to give us bread, which was available, and offered us pita. He knew we were unhappy and could have cooperated by giving us bread."

  • "New Menu is outstanding- lots of fresh choices served in a creative way. Food has improved ten fold since opening. Was so good we went back the next night. "

  • "We needed a late dinner following a function at UCLA and Nine Thirty offered a wonderful variety of American food to our party of four. Our guests were on a South Beach diet and they both enjoyed the diver scallops. As a meat-lover, I selected the Beef Bourguignon and was delighted with both the presentation and the savory tastes of onion, potato and beef in a red-wine reduction. My wife enjoyed the roasted Halibut. Nothing was leftover. Although the bar was a bit raucous on this Saturday night, the restaurant was much quieter and was conducive to good conversation between friends. I found the cost to be a good value and I'm looking forward to our next visit."

  • "Been to this location at W multiple times under other names but NineThirty seems to be the best iteration. We'll run and good food."

  • "It was a special prix fixe menu with wine pairing. They were launching a new winery by pairing them with the dishes. The hamachi and rose combination was good. The hamachi dish was fabulous. The second course pairing was outstanding! The saltiness of the pancetta combined with the wine that was selected to accompany it was an excellent choice! The 3rd course was NY steak and it was cooked to perfection. The accompanying sauce was quite delicious. Ce'magnifique! But I couldn't finish the steak as I was full. The desert was a pretzel bread pudding. Not that good. the salty, starchiness did not go over well with the sweet icecream. It was okay."

  • "The sweet potato soup was really terrific. The black cod melted in your mouth. It was delicious. The squash carpaccio was just ok."

  • "I expected amazing food but 930 was average. For the price it charged, I felt that the food was not worth the price. The one upside to 930 is the large portions."

  • "We have been a few times and both the food and service are great. Nice variety on the menu and the staff is very accommodating and friendly. Good idea to call ahead or make a reservation. As this is a hotel restaurant (W), sometimes it can be very busy. We have lucked out and found some quiet times to have dinner at the restaurant bar (there is also a larger bar just outside the restaurant if you are looking for a drink and a small bite to eat). For the times the restaurant is closed, The Backyard is at the back of the hotel and is an outside dining area with heat lamps and they also serve from the dinner menu."

  • "Didn't quite know what to expect as hotel food by nature has never been stellar. This was a great meal offered with spectacular and friendly service. We will return for sure!"

  • "Good menu selection offers great food choices and you cannot go wrong. Service is great and attentive."

  • "High prices for no value. Some food was undercooked (eggplants). Oxtail and bone marrow dish cost $16 and was literally 2 bites. $6 for tasteless bread. No wonder the restaurant is empty on Saturday night with a few people who probably stay at the hotel and don't know the area."

  • "This was the worst Starwood experience we've ever had. Poor, distract indifferent service. Inexperienced help that didn't know which dish went to which diner getting no help from the server. Food was wasn't bad but nothing worth returning to try. Go somewhere else.. It's no more expensive and the service is great and trained. The managers don't have enough sense to install glare-cutting shades for the west facing windows. The hostess and server doesn't know the parking costs of $7 not $5 with validation. The valets were untrained and rude. The hotness called down for our car. It took over 15 min. for our car to appear. Outrageous. The restaurant is only good if U R staying at the hotel. Even the lobby furniture worn. Very Disappointing."

  • "We had a slight snafu as the 9 30 had changed their hours to take advantage of summer. We had plans for the theater and couldn't change our time. They wonderfully switched us to their pool side hot spot, The Backyard and graciously let us order from the 9 30 summer tasting menu. The food was DIVINE. Innovative, daring, delicious and comforting. This is one of the best places in L.A. GET YOUR GRUB ON!"

  • "Overall we had a great time with good food and service. Only disappointment was the attire of many guests, far too casual and also the presence of far too many kids, all in shorts...We went 3 years ago and it was more chic!"

  • "We went for a pre-theatre dinner here, thinking that it would have a great vibe with great food. Well, it was dead on a Thursday @ 630 and, although the food was good, the service was on the slow side."

  • "Not best for a business meeting, a little too noisy. I'm a big fan of moderate size portions, but this was rather small, too small."

  • "My wife and I went for New Years Eve dinner. The bartender had a poor attitude, like he did not want to be there. The food was average at best. What made the night memorable in a bad way was the terrible service. We had to beg to receive water. We asked our server for bread 3 times. 20 minutes later, the bread came out and they gave it to the wrong table. I finally asked a bus boy for bread and he brought it right away! The server never once came to check on us when our courses were delivered. There was no manager or maitre d checking on tables. It was awful. Had the service been better I would try it again just to see if the kitchen had an off night. Its a shame because, the venue is beautiful."

  • "Wouldn't go back. Went New Years Eve not realizing it was a set menu. Tiny portions of of artistically plated food but it didn't quite make the grade. The wait staff was not attentive at all and when served a bottle of champagne I had to ask 3 people for an ice bucket (the waiter simply opened it placed it on the table)and it was like a Chinese fire drill trying to find on. Also the bar had no olives for martinis (on New Years Eve)."

  • "From the moment I entered the establishment, I knew this would be a fabulous night out. The ambiance and the food were stellar; given I had never gone out to eat on a Thanksgiving before, this was not a disappointment. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience and so did my dinner guests. A definite two thumbs up to the staff."

  • "I ordered the brussel sprouts as a side and the skate as a main: two of my favorite items. The brussel sprouts were - in my opinion - oversauced and - in my opinion - the flavors of the sauce didn't complement the sprouts. The skate was served boneless, which I appreciated; however, it was also oversauced with something way way way too rich. I found it a bit stomach turning. I thought the polenta fries were a good idea but I'm not sure they were a total success as a parter to the skate. In general my meal was too rich and heavy even though I ordered (in essence) a fish and a veg. I think both dishes need reimagining. The service was spot on."

  • "It was a very quiet Saturday night and we were given an excellent table in an almost empty restaurant. We had tickets for a play at a nearby theater and had no problem finding on-street parking halfway between the restaurant and the theater, making it an easy walk between the two. The salmon was perfectly prepared with excellent sides, as was the tri-tip. The wine list was limited but there was no problem finding something that went well with both meals. Service was friendly and prompt and the cost was in keeping with the quality of the experience. We will add this to our list of restaurants in Westwood to visit before going to the Geffen."

  • "The Dine LA menu was inventive and fun. It was a great value, letting you pick 5 choices from 4 categories. We plan to go back!"

  • "Good service but food was only decent; seemed to not be quite as good as it hoped to be based on the presentation and menu."

  • "I went here for lunch, and when i got there i was amazed on how lovely the setting was. I had lunch at 'The Backyard' which is an outdoor restaurant and is connected to the pool and bar. The food was pretty good and not pricey at all, averaging about $25 per person. The service however wasn't so great, it took about 20 min. for the waiter to even come over to my table to take my order, once i was done ordering it took about 25-30 min for the food to arrive, then i had to reorder something because it never came. This is def. a set back because the food is delicious but the service isn't so great."

  • "Great salmon. Nice waitress to start. Then it took 3 askings to get some bread to our table. For the price the service was not up to par. The person who cleared kept dropping cutlery on our table a couple of times. The waitress and also the person who delivered our food ( shpuld have been the waitress, but was not, so did not know who got what= a starting point for more attention to detail) kept reaching across the table but could not reach very well. They could have walked behind us to reach closer to put the plates down in front of us. It was a little awkward for them and us."

  • "beautiful setting and good food. the service was pleasant but a bit slow as we alotted 1 1/2 hours for dinner before our play and had to take our dessert to go."

  • "We thought we had reserved a brunch outside on what is called the "back Porch", but the Nine Thirty is inside. Wrong location for an Easter brunch, but my fault for not knowing the W had 2 restaurants."

  • "Food was good but we only had a few dishes. Not much to say, as we'd have to go back for a full meal"

  • "Salmon excellent, vegetables way over cooked. Service so-so. Like the ambience... but needs to work on the kitchen."
    Dined on 2/18/2012
  • "The caviar potato leek soup was memorable, but winner was not the main course... rather the dessert, a simple stawberry custard crusty pie! I would say basically everything they make is tasteful with high quality ingredients, cooked to perfection. Two out of five dishes on their valentine menu were memorable. That is quite an achievement, and the price equals its value. Nothing ordinary here, but not wholy out of the ordinary either. Recommendable to high standard food seekers for a typical thrill."

  • "interesting food, not brilliant but good. I went twice-once for diner with my son and once for brunch The salmon was overcooked, smoked tomato horseradish grits very nice I can't remember my appetizer but I do remember it was good, interesting and well prepared. crab cakes and eggs nothing special and that was disappointing, service much worse fro brunch"
