Niles New York CityUnexpected FindI found a new hangout in an unexpected place. Niles is in the Affina Hotel near Madison Square Garden and it is excellent. I had the Irish Omelet which was delicious and flavorful in every bite. The restaurant itself is nice looking with little painting of scenes of the city on the walls - very clean & fresh. The staff was very attentive & accommodating. They have a very swanky bar area which I am going to try for an afternoon drink but looking over the rest of the menu, it will be hard to resist having dinner & dessert there after. Much better than the standard pub grub joints that dominate the area. Fine dining, good wines, nice atmosphere. Locals should be flocking here, not just tourists who seem to be the majority of diners. The waiter was not familiar with procedure, didn't even note that I was an Open Table client even after making mention. There were no bread plates at the table and my guest and I had to ask for them even after we were served bread, our waiter just wasn't attentive as we had to call his attention every time we needed him. We truly enjoyed our meal but the overall experience was not as good as our first visit. We were staying at the Affinia Manhattan in which the restaurant is in the hotel so very convenient. Place looks nicely decorated for a nice dinner and reasonably priced. Had the appetizer crab cakes and it was only ok because I'm from Maryland so I know what a good lump crabcake taste like and it was far from it but not unbearable.
