Diner Reviews
  • "Niles is pleasant enough and we had an early dinner which would make dining in New York, opposite Madison Square Garden a quiet experience! as there were few other diners at this time, although the bar was happening!. The salads were good, but the entree that I had was rather mediocre, vegetarian ravioli, with lots of red sauce, Not too many raviolis appeared on the plate. Others at the table had the lamb chops and the chopped salad which they seemed to enjoy. The wait staff were very solicitous and polite to us; brought a birthday dessert for my brother-in-law. the wine by the glass offered a good selection. Overall it was average to good but for New York, probably a good deal.."

  • "Food was good, but place was too loud. Even the dining area was too loud (noise from bar area) to be able to have a conversation. Great place to go have drinks/food and watch the hockey game, but not recommended for a nice dinner, there are better places to choose from."

  • "Great place to grab a drink, great meal before grabbing the train at Penn. Beautiful, gallery like interior, romantic and peaceful atmosphere."

  • "I'd go back. That's my best reference. Great spot for business and conversation. Also romantic."

  • "Everything was wonderful-service a bit too intrusive with regard to asking about and pouring water-othrerwise wonderful and courteous. Food was incredible-all three ladies ate every morsal! It is a new NYC spot for our group and we will spread the word! Menu choices and wine list equally fabulous!"

  • "Convenience and ambience were both attributes of Niles New York City. We were not rushed and were allowed to linger over our lunch. Great place for meeting and greeting friends near Penn Station."

  • "The evening started off with a terrible glass of plain pineapple juice. It took a long while to have bread on our table. The scallops appetizer was very delicious, as well as butternut soup. Unfortunately, the dinner was very disappointing. I ordered the Chilean sea bass from the menu and it was terrible. Instead of having a soft, buttery feel when you bite into it (the way Chilean sea bass should be), the fish was dry and flaky and really not good at all - very disappointing for an expensive dish. The pretzel chicken from the menu was also dry and disappointing. Our experience started off with a terrible tasting juice and it just went downhill from there. Perhaps the chef was having a bad night. We won't go back."

  • "My friends and I meet in Niles once a month or so. We love this place. Food and service beyond excellent."

  • "The location of this restaurant, right across the street from Penn Station, is a bit busy but it's very convenient to Penn Station. The food at this modern American restaurant was quite good and the service was good too. The ambiance was off-putting, though: it's quite modern and spare with bright white walls and colored framed prints, kind of bare, felt like I was in a finished basement. You'd think it would be uncomfortably loud but the acoustics were fine. I would definitely go in here again, though, it's a great find."

  • "I took my parents to dinner at Niles this past weekend when they visited from out of town. The experience was absolutely fantastic! The food is simply spectacular, and though the noise level was pretty energetic, the restaurant had mostly cleared out by the time we finished at 8:30. I highly recommend this hidden gem; be sure to try the pretzel-crusted chicken and the lamp chops!"

  • "Wonderfully prepared food that is mindful of the diner's requests is served in a large, bright room that is separate from the bar area. Although it is a limited menu, it is varied enough to accommodate most tastes, and the prices are reasonable. Tables are spaced far enough apart as to temper the noise level, making this a wonderful choice for friends to gather and talk."

  • "Upon entering the restaurant, everything seems modern and clean. Sitting in the restaurant, one glance around the floor tells me that the place is not clean. The seats were not wiped cleaned before we were seated, and the floor was extremely dirty. The atmosphere is not very warm and inviting. The food was ok, though the busboy/waiter came and took our bread basket away without asking us if it was ok to do so...."

  • "If you are looking for a nice place to eat before attending any event near Madison Square Garden, this place is a real find. The food is really good, the prices reasonable and the service is excellent. The bar area is vibrant, but the dining area is relatively quiet. I have eaten at Niles for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Highly recommend!"

  • "I met a friend here for a quick lunch near Penn Station. He had a burger and I had an Ahi Tuna salad. The burger was great and the Ahi Tuna was a good quantity of high quality rare Tuna. The presentation was excellent on both plates. The decor is much improved over when I went there a few years back. I recommend it."

  • "We have spent many years looking for a good place near Madison Square Garden. This place was great. Right from the hostess to the waiters the service was excellent. The food choices we varied and the food was great. I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass and the taste and presentation was super. The rest of the group ordered Filet Mignonette, Salmon and lamb chops. We will definitely return and highly recommend to others."

  • "Convenient location when going to events at Madison Square Garden. Although restaurant was not overly crowded, our table was stuck in a remote corner of the restaurant, and server forgot about us. Server never delivered our coffee and we had to leave to make our show without coffee. We arrived promptly at 6:30 pm and were only served our entree before leaving at 7:45 pm."

  • "We were looking for a good restaurant near Madison Square Garden before an event there. This is the best we've found so far. I arrived before the rest of my party and they offered to seat me before the rest of my party arrived (some restaurants won't do this). I chose to sit at the bar - very pleasant experience and a delicious drink with prosecco, limoncello, and pomegranate juice. Dinner was excellent. Two of us had the chicken paillard. Usually when I order this it comes with salad on top, but the Niles version had perfectly cooked fresh vegetables on top (asparagus, green beans, carrots). The other two in our party had the duck, which they loved. Prices are high but well worth it. Only criticism: service was a little slow."

  • "While this restaurant has a great location to MSG and a nice bar.. we made a reservation only to see the restaurant was all but empty. That being said, it didn't seem like the waitstaff knew what to do with so few tables. Our drinks were often empty and we needed to proactively reach out to the waitstaff every time we needed something. We also were not sure who our waiter was because someone different was always around. Otherwise, the food is decent, and again all about a nice place to be around MSG. got the pretzel crusted chicken which was good as well as the bucatini."

  • "We were very pleased with the service and the food. The staff made us feel comfortable and the food was delicious. It was fresh, served at the proper temperature (you could tell it was freshley prepared) and the portions were generous. Definately a worthwhile experience. The 20% discount for staying at the Affinia Manhattan is an added bonus"

  • "I suggest getting the filet mignon... literally the best I've ever had! The potatoes that come with it aren't anything to be excited about. But that filet mignon literally is the best flavored and cooked meat ever!"

  • "In the past we have found it "challenging" to find a really good and convenient restaurant close by when we are showing our dogs at Westminster (Madison Square Garden). We found Niles to be very good and so convenient. Our waiter was incredibly conscientious in making sure my husband's food allergies were not activated and actually checked out the preparation of every dish he ordered, making excellent substitutions where necessary."

  • "I have been dinning Niles for at least four years now every time that I am in city to attend an event at the Garden. The food is simply amazing and it has been consistent all the way. Great service! The bar is also great with a even nicer atmosphere! Great Restaurant!"

  • "Went to Niles for lunch, relieved to find an alternative to Irish Pubs, fast food or Korean restaurants. Niles is not exactly inexpensive, but the ambiance is serene, the food is good, and the service is very good."

  • "Honestly I loved the food and drinks. I picked this restaurant only because it was so close to the garden and we had tickets to see billy joel so we wanted something right there and this is a place that was great and a place we are already making plans to go back. The filrtini was so good."

  • "we had a great evening after a late afternoon basketball ganme at MSG. Food was well done at a fair price. Service was very good. and best of all we sat in a private roon off of the main dining room -- super spot for 12 people. and ooh so convenient to MSG -- right across the street in the Affinia Hotel."

  • "We had a good table and the food was adequate. Quite nice but would not tell anyone that the 'must' eat here. Very closseto Penn Station which was the reason I chose it and will eat here many times again, Service was good but there were long intervals in which it was difficult to catch the eye of the waiter."

  • "I was attending a concert at the garden with my wife, temperature was so cold that we decided on looking for something very close to the Garden. I must say that we were extremely pleased not only with the location but the food and service was fantastic. The French Onion soup was the only disappointment but our Filet Mignon's were superb. They were cooked to perfection and were as good if not better than some we've had at famous steakhouses. Service and drinks were fantastic, dessert and coffee were terrific as well. We will definitely be back!"

  • "This spot is good for Midtown lunch. It's classy, not too loud and they have an affordable lunch menu. It's great if you need to meet with someone but don't want to be in a small cafe or a pub."
