Rue Noir offers the areas largest Raw Bar with fresh Clams, Oysters, Jon Pacific NorthWest Dungeoness Crab, Alaskan Halibut, Pacific King Salmon Steaks and a varying seasonal selection. Additionally our French American inspired Cuisine features: Braised Oxen Tails, Roasted Beet infused Risotto, Grass Fed North American Veal Chops and Austrian Rack of Lamb.

  • "I have had a lot of filet mignon in my life, and I have to say, their petite filet mignon is the best I've ever had. Exquisite! It came cooked to perfection and wonderfully seasoned. My husband and I will definitely be back!"

  • "Our first visit here - a 40 mile round trip for us - was well worth it. Generous drinks + an interesting selection of foreign beers on draught (Try the French "Le Fin"). Apps were clams casino and a beet/arugla/bleu cheese salad - both excellent. We both had medium rare ribeyes(not Prime, but still ok, not tough) plus sides of pommes frites and creamed spinach - all cooked to perfection and very tasty. Then we shared a memorable strawberry shortcake served in an oversized brandy glass. Omar, our waiter, excercised just the right amount of attention and concern - very professional.   • "My husband, son and I went to Rie Noir on Sat evening. It was 6pm and there were NOT a lot of people at all. It was semi-empty which is a shame because the staff is WONDERFUL. In addition, my husband and I are on a clean Vegan diet so we had their awesome salads and they went "above and beyond" to make us special side dishes. My son loved his steak with his thin French fries. Everyone was very accommodating!!! This place is a hidden gem, I wish more people would give it a shot, you won't be disappointed!!!"

  • "We've been to Nik's several times since they opened, and always have a good time. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. I tend to the steaks and chops which are always top notch. Haven't tried the raw bar yet, one of these days! Ray at the bar can always whip up something tasty as well."

  • "I wasn't impressed. I was happy with the shrimp scampi - not enough flavor and the shrimp were not juicy and very fishy. My fiance had a steak and again not thrilled. He liked the onion soup. I had the carrot cake, it was so dense it was too much, not the lighter side of dessert. I just didn't eat it and the waiter asked what was wrong and I told him, so he remove it from the bill- which was appreciated. We will not be back."

  • "For those who demand the best in steaks, you know the good old days of 28 day dry-aged prime steaks on the bone are gone. Top restaurants are going with wet-aged blister-pack steaks. Few are on the bone. While Nik's is not serving up steaks on the bone, the taste, tenderness and quality of its steaks are to die for. I've found a new place. Branchburg NJ does not support Nik's raw bar, so I'm not sure how long it will last, but there is a reasonable raw bar with popular items. Problem is if you like whole belly fried or raw cherrystone clams, you can't get them. Still have to go to NY or urban NJ. Wines are pretty darn good and they sell them for 1/3rd to 1/2 of what you'll see in other upscale restaurants. "

  • "My wife and I have been here several times and always enjoyed ourselves. Ray at the bar always has something tasty to try, and the steaks are very good. They have a rub with salt, pepper, and a small amount of crushed espresso beans that is outstanding. Haven't tried the outside seating yet, but it looks very nice and warmer weather is coming!"

  • "This was a great find through Open Table. Thoroughly enjoyed the attentiveness to my guests by our server Omar. Top notch. He explained the menu's different offering such as the fish, boar, veal and steak dishes. The string bean appetizer and Edamame were tasty and we all enjoyed our meals (Flounder, Chinese Five Spice Ribs & Mac n Cheese Burger). All cooked as we requested. The manager also continued to check in with us about the food, service, etc. Overall a great experience and would return for lunch or dinner."

  • "We were seated promptly. The bacon appetizer was actually quite good. The escargot was disappointing, though. The steaks were excellent, cooked perfectly and very tasty. The creamed spinach and the sauteed spinach were both quite good. However, the potatoes au gratin was very disappointing. The pour on the drinks was adequate, but not worth mentioning. It's also very clear that the restaurant was previously a diner, although the lighting and decor was fine. For the prices charged ($40+ for each steak and sides were extra), one would expect an experience that is a notch or two above what one gets at Rue Noir."

  • "I was reticent to come here after all the negative reviews I read outside of Open Table, however I decided to give this place a try anyways. My first request was the She crab soup, and of course they were out. This seems to happen to me no matter where I go. We decided to go for the Drunken Mussels and the Slab of Bacon. The mussels were WAY too salty and the bacon was over cooked and tough. Both were underwhelming to say the least. The only thing that was mildly enjoyable was the cole slaw that came with the bacon. Then came the Porterhouse with a side of garlicky spinach and fries. THANK GOD they didn't screw up the steak or this meal would have been a complete bust. The spinach was insanely good and but the fries reminded me of BK fries."

  • "For the prices they charge they have a loooong way to go. For a $42 steak..NY strip..it should be perfect. .it was chewy even though it was more rare than medium rare that I ordered. Regadless from the 30 min wait beyond my reservation. .granted it was Valentine's day..to the poor service it was poor overall..my guest had salmon which was very fishy.. we told them don't bother wrapping it up...I told the waiter it was poor tasting and then offered no resolution. .I had no energy to make a fuss. Was supposed to bring water as requested. .but had to ask. Appetizers were fair but overpriced. Best person there was the bartender who was pleasant while we waited to be seated..very disappointed"

  • "Aware of what others have said about this Branchburg restaurant, I was cautious when I suggested this for our party of 3. Not to worry; it was a great experience. Myself and another had the boar osso bucco (fall off the bone tender), while another had braised short ribs. I tried the onion soup (very good) and we shared such starters as calamari, escargot and oysters from the raw bar. After this variety of well-prepared foods, all a solid 4 star quality, we ended with expressos The wine list, if not too extensive, is well-suited to the menu, Service, from staff to manager was very attentive. It was a very wet Saurday evening and the place was not too packed. Perhaps we really got the best of what they are capable. Give them a try!"

  • "My second visit to this lovely new steakhouse right in Branchburg, New Jersey, this time with my husband. We both enjoy an excellent steak and selected Rue Noir for New Years from my previous visit with an adult daughter . Food is outstanding, steaks cooked to perfection. Great selections of specials. We shared an absolutely fabulous red pepper soup. Service is pleasant and courteous. The decor gives you a wonderful sense of calm with pleasing colors. Bar area is beautiful and they offer a small separate dining room for special occasions. My only complaint was were our table was located it was a bit cold. Can't wait to go back!"

Filet Mignon was supposed to be medium well.....but I should have requested more "well" than "medium" as it was a little too rare for my taste. Our server was fantastic but made a mistake with our meal....in our favor. Very nice atmosphere.....upscale. Yes, we will be back here!"

It's ok to have a high school age waiter, but he should know the basics: don't make me ask for bread when every other table has it, if I order steak give me a steak knife, and do not clear dishes while someone is still eating. My wife sat there finishing her meal while the rest of us had our places cleared."

  • "I really had high hopes for Rue Noir as the pictures looked great on the website. Great idea, not so great execution. What was good: my filet, baked potato, and my partner's bread pudding dessert. Not so good: the mushrooms w/Boursin and bacon as they was undercooked and mostly grocery store cheese, iceberg lettuce salad was drowned in blue cheese dressing, the rib eye was kind of flavorless. Inside the decor is nice. I've seen NYC restaurants with the same look and they're considered edgy. The front doors are being replaced with custom wood doors (I was told) so that will be an improvement. Service was ggod and attentive and errors were handled quickly. LOSE the live musician! He was no vocalist and even less talented musically."

  • "Their dry aged beef and raw bar is extensive. Executive Chef Quinton has some outstanding daily specials as well. I had the short ribs last night that had been cooking all day and you could cut them with your fork. The plate ptesentation is equally well done. I highly recommend."

  • "I had a good meal, not great. I picked the porterhouse medium rare and it came out right. But for the price you pay I would expect a better quality of steak. My wife got the salmon, which was good but not cook all the way through. I understand it is one of the toughest fish to cook correctly. One thing they should have done was descale the fish. I could get the same cut of salmon at the Hmart. The service was good and the chef did come out just to check on us. People were very nice. The onlu problem is they charge way to much for the quality they give you. This restaurant will not make it. I service restaurants for a living. It was not crowded on a friday evening, lots of empty chairs. They should adjust their prices if they want to survive"

  • "They present themselves as an upscale steakhouse with the servers wearing ties and vests, very pricey menu, dim lighting, and soft music playing. They failed to make it an intimate dining experience. it still looks like a diner. They sat everyone together in an otherwise empty dining room. Seats are not private in the least bit. The waiter didn't show for 5+ minutes, but arrived with water and bread. they need a lesson on personality. Manager came over without introducing himself asked how the food was then left. French onion soup wasn't broiled enough. Stuffed Mushrooms were great! Steaks were cooked right and tasty. Sides were done correctly as well. the sauce drenching the steak tips was extremely salty. Get Steak!"

  • "Took a gamble because I read good and bad reviews. Took my parents out to dinner for their anniversary and everyone loved it. My stepdad said he never saw my mom eat like that. My little 105-lb mom attacked the bacon slab, she-crab bisque, crab legs and creme brulee, and even loved the regular coffee. My mom has been to restaurants all over the world and marks this one as a definite comeback. I believe she's even planning her next ladies' night out there. Plus, the staff was very friendly and on-point. The only negative was a loud customer a couple tables over who sounded like he had some drinks. I would've gone over and said something, but our enjoyment drowned his rudeness. Thanks for a great evening. The gamble paid off."

  • "They tried to turn a fifties style diner into a fancy french restaurant. It ended up looking like the tried to turn a fifties style diner into a fancy french restaurant. They would have been better served to work with the existing diner decor rather than trying to put lipstick on it. It just looks silly. The service was great. The steaks were excellent. But.. they screwed up calamari and mussels and a baked potato came out horrible. How does that happen?They have a nice beer and wine list. Overall I think they still have a lot of kinks to work out and they need to pay attention to everything they serve and not just the steaks."

  • "The restaurant was very nice. Our server was extremely polite. He checked to see how we were doing very often. The food was excellent. Prices were a bit on the high side. This would cause me not to visit as often. But now I found a place where I can get a great piece of meat. The interior of the restaurant was very nice. The only thing that surprised me is that there are booths. With the cost of a meal I would have expected all tables."

  • "When Rue Noir opened I was pleased at the change and the potential. Over six months in however and they still seem stuck between the old diner and the NYC-styled steakhouse they want to be. The food continues to be solid, with appetizers and steaks leading the way. Dessert is okay. Bread is often stale and always cold and the butter is rock hard. Silverware appears to be left over from the diner days and you can't sell top wine with thick rimmed, stemless composite glasses. The servers are attentive but apologetic rather than energetic and positive. Will keep trying periodically."

  • "The transformation of Rue Noir is an incredible experience (formerly a diner). The new owners have added an aire of sophistication to the interior with black booths & white tablecloths that delivers a feeling of informality and charm. The dinner was wonderful. Started off with the shrimp dumplings and calamari (very well prepared). Next came the filet mignon grilled to perfection and then dessert. A friend had warm chocolate cake (deelicious!!) and I had bread pudding (marvelously light in texture). Can't say enough about the service. We'll be back again."

  • "I enjoyed the veal chop entree. It was cooked exactly as I like it, along with the Yukon potatoes which were delicious. I had a shrimp dumpling appetizer, which was tasty, and just tangy enough without being overbearing. The portions were just enough and as I was too full for dessert, ordered only coffee. Maybe next time I will order dessert to sample the offerings."

There was a keyboard player in the dining room who was playing very loudly, it just seemed out of place.
