The Aviation Themed Restaurant has been a favorite spot for the residents of Orange County for over 40 years.

The restaurant features contemporary continental cuisine, including steaks, seafood and other creations by Award Winning Chef Greg Moro.

  • "This was my first time here and the place is just beautiful inside, very elegant and old school. The service was outstanding and attentive without being annoying. The food was just okay…I had the rib eye steak and it was not very flavorful and was a bit tough. I had to smother it in béarnaise sauce which was delicious. The creamed corn wasn't creamy but rather soupy and the fingerling potatoes were more potato chips. The ambiance and service made up for the lackluster food and I would like to give this place another try."

  • "usually a great place, but this time, I was very disappointed. I ordered the beef Wellington, which I've had there and is very good. My date ordered there sea bass which I recommended to her. After 30 minutes, the less than average, waitress comes to us AND SAYS THEY'RE OUT OF THE WELLINGTON! Seriously, 30 minutes and suddenly! After settling for a filet mignon, which was "OK", we were done. Her sea bass was very salty, also. Needless to say, a disappointing experience to was once a splendid experience."

  • "We love coming to Nieuport 17. It's a local favorite, Lately though, The new people in charge are starting to cut corners. We had spinach salad last night, (Nieuport 17 is know for) It was like eating cooked spinach. the salad chef who is responsible for this should never had let this salad be served. My steak was good, but not to the standard in which Mr Bettis would had bought! I think they are making changes to the menu that the restaurant is famous for, and those of us who frequent the place are really starting to notice! The good wines are not restocked regularly, and are not kept at the proper temp. It seems like they are trying to get quantity over quality now."

  • "It is a bit surprising that for two long-time residents of Orange County, we have never dined in Nieuport 17. What an excellent experience! We got there a bit early so we had a drink in the bar. The bar was very busy. We then had an excellent experience in the restaurant where we made our choices from the Restaurant Week special menu. At no time did we experience any less than excellent service just because we were ordering off the special menu. During our visit we were greeted by the owner who also suggested that we visit the restaurant on Sundays when they feature fried chicken and potatoes and gravy -- sounds good. We were also visited by the head chef (Greg Moro) which is always a nice touch. Two thumbs up for Nieuport 17 !!!"

  • "Beautiful restaurant with comfortable feel. The walls are cover with photos and painting of aircraft which explains the restaurant's name, Nieuport 17 was a world war 1 airplane. The service was excellent. I order the fried eggplant appetizer and it was wonderful."

  • "Went for Orange County Restaurant Week and was disappointed. Our steak was just fair. But what disappointed us most was that they ran out of things -- the artichoke appetizer and the creme brulee for dessert. We had early reservations (7:30 p.m.). Don't feel that should have happened."

  • "We went for Restaurant week and got a great prix fixe meal. I had the ribeye in marrow butter, grilled perfectly rare with a french onion soup to die for. I had a glass of Rodney Strong Merlot to accompany. Julie had the shrimp and scallops. Fresh and full of flavor. We each had our own deconstructed candy apple. Some nice piano music in the lounge with a nightcap of 18 year McCallan single malt was the end to a great evening."

  • "We made reservations for 5:30pm and arrived early. We went into the bar for a cocktail and Don served us at the bar. Good drinks and bartender. We made our way to dinner and sat down by the fireplace. It was the start of OC restaurant week so they had the regular menu as well as a 3 course prix fix dinner for $40.00. We orderd off the prix fix menu. First course artichoke which was grilled and tasty. I had a salad which was fresh and very good with a lemon/cheese vinegarette. Our entrees were, a rib eye steak which was cooked perfectly and tasted really good. I had shrimp and scallops with asparagus; I thought everything tasted good. For dessert my husband ordered a decunstructed caramel apple and I had the ice cream sandwhich. All good."

  • "I took my lady to Nieuport 17 for Valentines Day dinner. Excellent décor. impeccable service. My wife had prime rib from the 4 course price fixe menu and I ordered ribeye from the regular menu. All courses were beautifully prepared and presented. The reason we gave them four stars for food was that the beef seemed to be of lower quality than I'd expect at the price paid, though beautifully prepared. Our waiter said it was "choice" but it was not as tender as choice steaks I've been served at competing high end restaurants. It made the difference between very good and great but overall it was an excellent dining experience. I will gladly return, and I would highly recommend Nieuport 17 to others for your special occasions."

This is a old school place with a big fire going and lots of pictures on the walls. The age group was around 40 to 50 . We were in the neighborhood for a function earlier in the evening, so thought we'd have dinner with friends there. Everyone was very cordial and the service was great. I think the food is still as good as I remember. It was nice and quiet which allowed us to catch up with our friends in a normal conversational voice and one of the people is hard of hearing!   • "I was very happy to find Nieuport 17, a restaurant that was not only open on Christmas day, but that had the tasteful ambience my elderly father would enjoy, as well as offering a meal within a reasonable price range. Though we had never been there, we immediately felt welcomed. The bar area looked cozy, filled with Christmas songs played live on a piano. We sat in the main dining room, beautifully decorated for the holiday and with an English/private club sort of atmosphere, which I love. Our waiter was not the chummy confidential type, but he provided efficient and quick service. The food was wonderful. I loved the grilled artichoke and truffled quail, and Dad ate every scrap of his prime rib, done exactly to his order."

  • "When your boss asks where you'd like to go to lunch as a holiday thank you and it ends up like ours did, you fear there won't be another lunch (or job) in your future. He'd never been to Newport 17, I had. The holiday decorations were beautiful. The service was not! Waiter disappeared for about 25 minutes. We were never brought a basket a bread like those around us, we were never asked about refills on our drinks, we were never offered dessert - it was pretty much a dining experience without. It was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had, compounded by the fact I recommended it to my boss and he was paying. Very disappointing."

  • "When this restaurant was recommended to me, I was told there were lots of beef options, including prime rib. I was dissappointed to see that the lunch menu didn't have prime rib. The server told me that the French Dip is well-done, so I decided to go with the Ribeye, medium-rare. The dish was very tasty, but the Ribeye was medium-well. I didn't send it back because I don't like to do that sort of thing. On my next visit, I will most likely order the Ribeye rare in order to get a medium-rare steak. The salad dressing was excellent! And the sun dried tomato tapenade was delicious as well."

  • "The atmosphere is positively archaic and the service was worse. they have not changed with the times and it's just, plain old boring. I would not send anyone of any age there; the 30-40 something crowd would be bored and the 50 and up crowd might have a coronary when they spotted the price of an entree. In this day and age with so many people of all ages going toward or actively leading healthy lifestyles, the choice of healthy food is limiting. Also the decor of taxidermic animals as part of their "ambiance" is a turn off."

The food was predictably good in a French style although we were disappointed they were out of the See Bass. The noise level and ambiance was quiet and classy. The only challenge this year were two Holiday parties in the adjacent rooms which seemed to distract our waiter as he rushed to get our order in before the big group's."

  • "Thanksgiving special meal was very tasty. We each chose one of the offered entrees. I enjoyed the starter soup but my 14 year old daughter thought the pumpkin soup was a bit on the sweet side. The traditional turkey meal was delicious. I had the prime rib which was cooked perfectly. The gravy on the potatoes was neither heavy nor greasy and was seasoned just right. My husband had the pork chop and all I can say is that the plate was clean in minutes. We have lived in the area for 19 years and this is our first meal at Nieuport 17. It will not be our last."
