The Aviation Themed Restaurant has been a favorite spot for the residents of Orange County for over 40 years.

The restaurant features contemporary continental cuisine, including steaks, seafood and other creations by Award Winning Chef Greg Moro.

  • "The new chef(s) seem to take pride in every course they prepare and especially the sauces and dressings. The In-house made wedge salad dressing and shrimp cocktail sauce w/ capers & avocados were refreshingly flavorful and laid the foundation for entrees to come. My medium rare filet was cooked to perfection and the roasted tomato demi glace was a perfect companion to the garlic potatoes and asparagus as well as the meat. The artichoke gnocchi also had an amazingly flavorful sauce that was delicious and unique to our pallets. Tthe new chefs have brought some wonderful and unique tastes to the menu. With the concerted effort to make every individual component of the meal a culinary delight, The "New" Nieuport 17 is better than ever."

  • "I have been a fan of Nieuport 17 since the 1990s and love that they are revamping their menu somewhat and their image. We tried the short rib stroganoff and it was amazingly good. (Although, we loved the old beef stroganoff too, and are sad that it was completedly taken off the menu.) The chicken polenta was mouth wateringly tender and could be cut with a fork. Very delicious."

  • "We enjoyed this great restaurant for more than 20 years, and then about 18 months to 2 years ago we noticed major changes taking place in food quality and service and cliantel attendace. Last Saturday evening we experienced a major decline in this restaurant food and service and cliantel attendance. The restaurant was at least 1/2 vacant. They are in a steep decline if they don't soon return this restaurant to its previous greatness."

  • "For some reason the new owner felt he must completely change the menu. On Monday, 7/28, they rolled out the new menu. UGH!!! Oh Bill where are you! We have been going to Nieuport 17 for 35 years and they have been a consistent restaurant. What a shame, we understand tweaking a menu but not a total change all at once. We cannot recommend the restaurant anymore!"

The last few times we have noticed quite a reduction in attendance. It's quite disappointing to see this fine restaurant head in a negative direction."

  • "My family has been coming to Nieuport 17 since the 70s, and the issue I had this time has not occurred before. I ordered the filet mignon. When it arrived, I had a mostly empty white plate with the steak sitting in the middle. There was a tiny dab of spinach and some other item but they were more in the nature of garnish. I felt I was really just having a piece of meat for dinner, which I just don't regard as a meal. I would like to see my plate a bit more occupied with say vegetables and/or some manner of starch. I know that I have the option to order sides, but still, I was unprepared for what I received. I must say, though, my steak was excellent, the service great, and the atmosphere perfect."

  • "We booked this on short notice and they were very accommodating for our party which had doubled in size. Our waitress was good. The only thing I was a bit disappointed in was when I ordered a burger protein style on greens, all they did was omit the bun and had a couple of pieces of iceberg on the side. The kitchen needs to get with the program, though this was lunch, so maybe their chef was not in yet. Desserts were all delicious, everyone liked what they ordered including a chocolate chip ice cream sandwich, creme brulee, and a candied apple dish that was yummy! Worth another trip."

  • "We arrived at 8:40 PM on Father's Day and it was nice and quiet. Service was very attentive. The food was very good but not out of this world. Prices are high but not outrageous. My husband had a ribeye with peppercorn sauce that he enjoyed. I had a little and thought the sauce was a bit bland. My mushroom appetizer was delicious and enormous (I had leftovers yesterday and still enough for another meal, and my husband had a few, too). Spinach salad was large and good. Waiter took special pains to find answers to my husband's questions about aviation history."

  • "This was our first time dining here, and we went based on a friend's rec. Our sons took us for Father's Day and Mother's Day. They are in their late 20's and early 30's and were the youngest in the restaurant. Most of the diners were seniors! Not sure why, but something to consider when you visit! The food was excellent, service incredible, and we were not rushed through our meal at all. Menu prices are on the high side, but worth it for a special occasion."

  • "This aviation-themed restaurant is in a strip mall - there's no view. The salads were good. But when our four entrees came, one plate was dropped to the floor, so three of us sat staring at our cooling food while we waited for the dropped filet to be replaced - and then that diner did not really like the filet. A second diner sent back his prime rib twice and then just stopped trying when it was still not cooked to his satisfaction by the third try. I liked my Wellington and my mom liked her lamb chops, but for $36-42 per each entree - a la carte - we expected a better experience. The one dessert they comped was a nice touch, but overall I felt this was not worth anywhere near the almost $100 per person we spent (food, drinks, tip). "

  • "Nieuport 17 is the place to take them! We have been customers of Bill's forever. When he was located on 17th St., we spent time in the bar and the restaurant. In our old age, we spend time in the restaurant! We have taken my mother in for Mother's Day, her ladies group meets there almost monthly and we go in when we are up from San Diego. A warm inviting atmosphere with excellent food, Nieuport 17 is a WINNER!"

The Chicken Picata was nice portion, but a bit under-lemoned, so was blander than expected. This is a lovely quiet restaurant from an earlier era. "

  • "This was my first time here and the place is just beautiful inside, very elegant and old school. The service was outstanding and attentive without being annoying. The food was just okay…I had the rib eye steak and it was not very flavorful and was a bit tough. I had to smother it in béarnaise sauce which was delicious. The creamed corn wasn't creamy but rather soupy and the fingerling potatoes were more potato chips. The ambiance and service made up for the lackluster food and I would like to give this place another try."

  • "usually a great place, but this time, I was very disappointed. I ordered the beef Wellington, which I've had there and is very good. My date ordered there sea bass which I recommended to her. After 30 minutes, the less than average, waitress comes to us AND SAYS THEY'RE OUT OF THE WELLINGTON! Seriously, 30 minutes and suddenly! After settling for a filet mignon, which was "OK", we were done. Her sea bass was very salty, also. Needless to say, a disappointing experience to was once a splendid experience."

  • "We love coming to Nieuport 17. It's a local favorite, Lately though, The new people in charge are starting to cut corners. We had spinach salad last night, (Nieuport 17 is know for) It was like eating cooked spinach. the salad chef who is responsible for this should never had let this salad be served. My steak was good, but not to the standard in which Mr Bettis would had bought! I think they are making changes to the menu that the restaurant is famous for, and those of us who frequent the place are really starting to notice! The good wines are not restocked regularly, and are not kept at the proper temp. It seems like they are trying to get quantity over quality now."

  • "Beautiful restaurant with comfortable feel. The walls are cover with photos and painting of aircraft which explains the restaurant's name, Nieuport 17 was a world war 1 airplane. The service was excellent. I order the fried eggplant appetizer and it was wonderful."

  • "Went for Orange County Restaurant Week and was disappointed. Our steak was just fair. But what disappointed us most was that they ran out of things -- the artichoke appetizer and the creme brulee for dessert. We had early reservations (7:30 p.m.). Don't feel that should have happened."

  • "It is a bit surprising that for two long-time residents of Orange County, we have never dined in Nieuport 17. What an excellent experience! We got there a bit early so we had a drink in the bar. The bar was very busy. We then had an excellent experience in the restaurant where we made our choices from the Restaurant Week special menu. At no time did we experience any less than excellent service just because we were ordering off the special menu. During our visit we were greeted by the owner who also suggested that we visit the restaurant on Sundays when they feature fried chicken and potatoes and gravy -- sounds good. We were also visited by the head chef (Greg Moro) which is always a nice touch. Two thumbs up for Nieuport 17 !!!"
