Nieto'sTerrific neighborhood restaurantMy cousin and I went here on a friend's recommendation. Nieto's is in the same space as the restaurant Carlos, and has the same owners. Nieto's menu has more reasonably priced food, but the same care and quality as Carlos. You can also get a 3 course tasting meal which definitely reflected more of what Carlos was famous for. I ordered the Lobster Cobb Salad and it was absolutely the best cobb salad I've ever eaten. One thing I would suggest is ask for it to be chopped when ordering to make it easier to eat. My cousin had the turkey burger with house cut fries and it was really tasty and came out piping hot. The service was spot on, and the noise level wasn't too bad. We also brought all of our guests there because it was one of the best restaurants in the Chicago area. After last Sunday's experience, we still thing the place is nice, but the food is not as delicious as it used to be. The portions are too large in my opinion and the style of the food preparation has changed. Before it used to be art and now it is more average. However it was very expensive and viewed as a "special occasion" place.
Carlos and Debbie realized this so they re-opened their restaurant as a more casual place where hopefully people will come more than once every couple decades. And I think they have succeeded. While the food is still not cheap (with wine, drinks and tip $80.00 per person) it is less expensive. More importantly, it is a different atmosphere. We were comfortable in jeans.
The food choices are varied, as there are still touches of Carlos, but now the menu includes burgers and such. I had ribs. They were excellent (fall of the bone).

Wait for the specials before deciding what to order. More casual, more reasonable, but with similar excellent food and service. One glitch was the Caesar salad, dry and underdressed. Everything else was so good, that sin was forgiven. The foie gras was amazing, the pork belly outstanding, and the crab/beet risotto uniquely wonderful. Wines were for every taste and wallet.
