  • "I love this place. It is very close to my home and the best Mexican food in Uptown. Their menu is simple but well created. I love their variety of margarita too! I highly recommend this place!"

  • "The tacos were fantastic, but the kitchen was slow. We would go back, if we were not in a hurry."

  • "The restaurant is set in an converted home. They have a nice patio area. The service was slow with the waitress basically ignoring our table for large spans of time. We waited more than 15 minutes for the table to be cleared. If you are seated in the 2nd level make sure that you are not in a back corner. The food was slightly pricey for what you got. The salsa was pretty much all liquid.I'd recommend the guacamole and chips as an app. The pescado (fish) and camaron (shrimp) soft shell tacos were very good.I ordered the taco plate - included rice (very plain - no real flavor) and beans (very tasty) . I'd put this on the been there, done that, not visit again list. I'd say give it a shot. Your experience might be completely different than mine."

  • "My fiance and I found Nico's on Restaurant Week. We love the easy going atmosphere that's still hip and vibrant. Great place for an impromptu date night. The guacamole, pastor burrito and pozole are delicious and leave you with plenty of leftovers! Do make reservations, though, even if you only make them an hour in advance."

  • "My husband and I came here on a whim and had a great experience! All of the good was amazing and the ambiance can't be beat. Will definitely come here again!"

  • "They make amazing tacos at a great price. They make every single ingredient in house and you can tell. Everything is so fresh. Their Margaritas are amazing. I will definitely be back."

  • "We are always looking for a good night out enjoying Mexican fare. This is it! The food is delicious and not swimming in sauce and cheese . Great guacamole too. We all enjoyed our meals!"

  • "We really liked the variety of the menu. Unlike any other Mexican restaurant, all the tacos fillings were unique. Salsa trio was fun to have the variety. The server gave us a few recommendations and they were good."

  • "This was a pleasant surprise. Great food. Fun choices. We tried about 7 items between us and enjoyed each one. The sauces didn't bring much heat (for non-Minnesota taste buds), but each had nice flavors. No worries--I got my heat from the spicy margarita! The only disappointment was that they were out of a couple of things. In the end, it just gave us an excuse to return."

  • "They know exactly what they want to be and execute it well. The food does not try to make any breakthroughs but rather to provide quality familiar dishes. I will be back again soon and many times after"

  • "Taco's were very good, but pretty much limited to the meat and cilantro onions. Make sure to explore adding rice, beans, guac, etc. Be prepared to be adventurous with the menu and make many combinations of items in order to really get the full experience. Food was fantastic. Very intimate setting."

  • "Absolutely loved this place! Since it's a home converted into a restaurant it really felt like I was in someone's home eating great, authentic Mexican food. The tequila selection is insane! There's so many great choices. The drinks come a little strong but they're still delicious. Definitely going back soon to try out some more food."

  • "Nico's was so great. It's in a red house on Hennepin Avenue, the atmosphere was great and our service was fantastic. They are known for their tacos, so that's what we got - I got pescado and barbacoa. Both were really good!!!"

  • "Overall really great night. We sampled many selections of food. All were really good. The pomegranate margarita was great! I would go back and take friends."

  • "It was a crowded Saturday night and it was greatly enjoyable! The food made us forget we were unable to be sat for about thirty minutes after our reservation time, but I can't fault them that people enjoy it so much there they don't want to leave right away after dinner. And chances are you will feel too full to move because the food is so yummy!"

  • "The food is delicious! The service on a Friday night was better than most on a regular night. The space is a bit cozy and a little loud, but we could talk across the table without too much trouble."

  • "Great for a happy hour with friends or a romantic meal with your partner. The margaritas and food are great. Most is made from scratch. Great flavor combinations. We tried the chicken and carne tacos, guac and chips and a few other things... We would recommend all and will definitely be coming back. Food is priced right so you can try various options and get a good flavor for what they have to offer. The ambiance of the old house makes for a romantic setting with limited seating but it's just right, cozy but not over crowded. Looking forward to going back when it's warm out and sitting outside."

  • "This place has great food, great drinks and at unbelievably cheap prices and great service to boot. Why it wasn't packed for a Thursday happy hour, I don't know, but I'll be definitely going back again and again."

  • "Located in a “house” on Hennepin, Nico’s provides a unique dining experience. The house has been completely converted into different dining areas throughout. Nico’s offers a nice selection of Tequilas for those who are a little adventurous. The staff is very attentive while still giving you plenty of privacy and time to enjoy the great food. With 6 different salsas and a great selection of entrées, we had a fantastic evening and will definitely be back. Anyone looking for a fun and different dining experience with great food and service will find Nico’s an evening well spent."

  • "Having traveled quite a bit in Mexico for work, I like to think I know a bit about the cuisine. Unfortunately Nico's does not. The bartender and tequila upstairs was great, but the same can't be said about the food. For the appetizer, I had posole, a hominy and pork stew. When I first smelled cigarette butts, I realized it was because the soup was loaded with liquid smoke. Also, the usual garnishes were absent, so no avocado, onion or tortilla. After waiting for over an hour for entrees (tacos, mind you), we asked for the bill. 5 more min went by and we got our tacos. While the lengua was good, pollo was nothing but salt, and the pastor was mushy. We left without dessert, and ended up being happier with a frozen pizza."

  • "I live in the northern burbs, so going to uptown is a big treat for me. Looked at Restaurant Week and chose a place I had never been to. Loved it!!!! Thought about the guacamole the next day and am planning my next time to go done there. Amazing salsas and burros!"

  • "This little place does blend into the neighborhood as it's in a converted house, but it's charming, intimate and freshly decorated. All of our food was so delicious. Really great. Some of the best Mexican EVER. We'll go back for that in a heartbeat. We were glad we'd read other reviews about how slow the service was - it was painfully slow. And, a prior reviewer lamented that if service had been faster - we've have ordered more cocktails and spent more money. So, if the owners are listening (are you?) please get this one thing fixed - you'll have a dynamite little gem on your hands with 5 stars every time."

  • "Was there on Valentines Day so they didn't have the regular menu. Was disappointed because I really wanted to try the tacos. They didn't even have salsa that night! Turned out ok though-more than ok...Had the pork and potatoes in salsa verde special and it was fantastic! Guacamole was great too. Everyone in my party thought their food was really good. Will definitely go back to try the different tacos and salsas! They had a very extensive tequila selection and tasty margaritas. The only negative thing I could say about Nico's is that their margaritas are are priced too high. Either drop the price or double the glass size."

  • "My husband and I had a very nice Valentine's Day dinner, and a good memory because of Nico's. We wanted to head here because I have a guten intolerance, and this made it easy! Nico's had a special menu for their Valentine's dinner, which was very nice and super reasonable ($25 for 3 courses/each). They had our reservation and notes from Open Table ready when we got there. The tables were small, but very cozy for a romantic dinner. The place wasn't too busy or crowded at all that night. Our server was super friendly and gave us plenty of time to enjoy our dinner. The food was fantastic and the ambiance was perfect for a nice out in uptown. Thank you for a great dinner Nico's! We will be back in summer for the patio!"

  • "We took our daughter here for her birthday. I chose this restaurant based sheerly on Open Table reviews! We drove by on the way to pick our daughter up. Our first reaction was "oh, it's in a house". We decided to go for it anyway, and we were SO glad that we did!! We had the blood orange/pomegranate margarita, which was on of the tastiest that I have ever had! We also had the bacon guacamole, which was out of this world. The chips were also homemade, and just delicious! We then all ended up having the flautas with different meats. Simply delicious!! Everything was so fresh, and made to order. It is definitely a small restaurant, with a quieter ambiance. However, the food was GREAT! I would definitely go back, and would recommend to others!"

  • "We will definitely go back. The food was awesome and we loved the building. The service was not great, but it was busy and so we are willing to give it a try. But when it takes 30 minutes to get a margarita and a beer and no apology, it is kind of annoying. Plus you lose money because we probably would have ordered another round but it took so long the first time."

  • "I ve been here a few times now. The homemade guacamole is great. The variety of tacos is great. It's an enjoyable place to eat. But something was different at last visit... they're preparing fewer salsas? That's disappointing. And they added tamales to the menu -- would be a good idea -- but we tried a variety of the tamales -- and they were bland, disappointing."

  • "What a fantastic experience we had! Delicious guacamole, some of the tastiest tacos I've ever had (I recommend the cod, the shrimp, and the cactus tacos) and a decent array of margaritas and tequila-based cocktails. The building is an old Minneapolis house so the space is limited (and in that, cozy). It was quiet and candle-lit - a great place to celebrate my wife's birthday. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone."

  • "I found this little gem here on Open Table by the recommendation of others. Fantastic food and super strong drinks... Fun little place and I bet it will be even better in the summer on the patio. Looking forward to going back. Oh, and everything is made fresh to order. The salsa I had was made just 1 minute before it was served."

  • "My husband loves to sample tequila so he's been suggesting this place for a while now, but I can't drink it so I always said no. Not sure why I relented on Friday night but I'm really glad I did. We walked the few blocks in the bitter cold, and the reception at Nico's was warm and friendly. They have a full bar and the bartender made my normal boring Amaretto Sour into a delightful cocktail. The table server was very friendly and helpful. The whole staff, including the manager were very attentive (in a good way, not pushy). We ordered one of their guacamoles and one of their salsas. Both were delicious. We were pleased to find Molcajete on the menu so close to home. It's a great feast and Nico's was exceptional. A fabulous night out!"
