Diner Reviews
  • "Service & food was amazing!!! From the second we walked in the staff were on point with friendly service from door to table. The wine list is great. We had the lobster bruschetta, onion soup, scallops, beef tenderloin & strawberries and chocolate. Every dish was perfection!"

  • "Starting with service: there is no better service in the twin cities...a couple equals, but none better...friendly, knowledgeable, unpretentious, helpful. Then there's the food: from the tartare to the scallops to the tenderloin to the soups and salads...nothing EVER falls short of being fabulous! The atmosphere: beautiful views of the mississippi with fine dining elegance."

  • "Food was good; not great. I had scallops and they were kinda slimy. We had asked the server if the chef had any dishes that were not on the menu..was told they don't make anything off the menu. Kinda disappointinng. Ambiance was very nice. Overall nice place to go on a romantic date."

  • "We celebrated our 43rd anniversary at the Nicollet Island Inn. The entire staff was welcoming and accommodating. We had a wonderful table and attentive service. The salad we chose (spinach and asparagus with a poached egg) was unusual and quite good. We both had the beef tenderloin, which was tender, succulent and cooked exactly as requested. The lemon tartlett was an excellent way to conclude the meal. A plus at this location is the carriage ride (operated separately from the Inn but just outside of it). This is a great place to celebrate an anniversary."

  • "I hosted an out of town supplier from Florida for dinner. This was a wonderful site and she so enjoyed seeing some of the more scenic parts of Minneapolis instead of the inside of 4 walls of most downtown Minneapolis restaurants. The service was wonderful as was the food. Walleye was a special treat for her and she thoroughly enjoyed it and the presentation. We especially enjoyed the ability to speak and be heard despite the dining area being full with diners."

  • "We were celebrating birthdays and an anniversary. We are returning patrons who appreciate the ambience, excellent food and quality service. Keep up the good work!!"

  • "This is our second time back here and it was just as amazing as the first. We came here for our anniversary and they went above and beyond my expectations. Flowers at the table and complimentary champagne with dessert was just the start!! The food was incredible as always with a wide range of flavors and great options as well. I highly recommend their scallops and steaks. The atmosphere was perfect and quiet as we came here on a Sunday night. Rebecca was our waitress and she couldn't have been better. Not intrusive and extremely helpful when making decisions about what to order. Honestly I can't say enough positive things about this place. We will be loyal customers well into the future. Thanks again!!"

  • "I enjoy the atmosphere and dining experience @ Nicollet Island Inn. The brunch menu was good; however, I have enjoyed the buffet brunch in the past and that is a preference I have. Service was excellent at Nicollet Island Inn."

  • "This is a very nice place to have dinner. It is right by downtown Minneapolis but you're away from the noise of the city while getting a view of the skyscrapers."

  • "We received incredible service from all parties from the time we approached the lobby until we exited. Since we had requested a quieter seating, the staff placed us in a corner table, with a view and very little noise. The bar makes excellent drinks. The four of us ordered all different dishes; the onion soup was a winner and the house salad was excellent. Our issue was with the entrees: They were no better than we could get at restaurants charging half the price. Sorry. But we will return for what we hear is an outstanding piano bar on Sat. nights - a tribute to those great beverages. Oh yes, the lemon meringue dessert was a complete winner."

  • "We had not dined for decades at Nicollet Island Inn, so it was nice to return to see if things had changed....no they hadn't. Our dinners were very delicious and the service outstanding. This night, the Maitre d and our server were called Cory, which made their names easy to remember and both men was very cordial and courteous. I had requested a table with the river view, which was granted and our area was very, very quiet with just our table for 2 people, which was perfect. Then my husband, who has a hearing problem, and I could carry on table conversation. The ambiance is beautiful, just as I had remembered."

  • "We had lunch for a special occasion and it was wonderful. James, our waiter was attentive, personable and knowledgable. We felt welcome, the food was great. A good experience. Again."

  • "Very elegant, great ambiance, wonderful dining experience! Love the decor! Used to go there for work holiday parties (miss that!) The Little Gem Salad was darling! Tiny square croutons and tomatoes, delicious. Was my favorite part of the meal. Had beef tenderloin and mashed potatoes. Lemon curd on shortbread for dessert, very good. Service was excellent! Nice location and of course, free parking! Thanks Nicollet Island Inn for a nice dining experience!"

  • "We arrived 7min late after a 3h breezy Segway tour all around town on a Saturday night. So we tried to behave but were hungry. I had requested a window table and there it was. We 4 ordered all over the menu and our discreet and totally professional server made everything seamless. Food was perfectly prepared, wine list was better than most, our bill was robust and worth every penny. Highly recommend. Oh, and refined country atmosphere was very cozy."

  • "I ordered the lamb leg and it was to die for delicious. The waiter was very knowledgable about the wine menu and recommended a red wine that was amazing. The setting is so pretty as well."

  • "Hubby and I were looking for a nice quiet place to have a great meal, just the two of us, and this was perfect. The food was amazing--I had the asparagus salad, which was SO GOOD, and Hubby had the crabcakes, which were delicious. We shared the walleye, and ordered the roasted Brussels sprouts. Yum! We each got a lemon tartlet for desert, and it was a great finish. The service was attentive without being too much 'there'. We took a little walk afterwards, and it was very pretty--a beautiful evening. The next time we're in MN, we plan to actually stay at this inn."

  • "Celebrated our wedding anniversary with Sunday brunch at Nicollet Island Inn. It's a beautiful spot with views of the Mississippi and old Main Street. Fixed price menu offers enough choices to satisfy most tastes. Food and service were terrific."

  • "We were seated in a area near a family with a toddler which was not my preference, but I did not ask for a different choice. Also our view was of the road, which was not the best. It was not crowded so there were plenty of tables elsewhere. The food was quite good, and over all I would say it was a lovely place for brunch."

  • "We were looking for a nice place for a special anniversary dinner. We arrived early. The bartender was very helpful with wine choice while we waited for our table. The host met my request for a quiet table for two with a view and checked on us a couple of times. The waiter was personable, knowledgeable, attentive and helpful. The atmosphere was excellent and the food was very good. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it."

  • "I enjoyed the Inn over 10 years ago and decided to visit it again with my husband for our anniversary. The Inn advertises the great view of the skyline, but you only see a fee buildings. The waitstaff was not particularly friendly. The food was average - at best. We wished we had crossed the river to the lively sense across the river. We were very disappointed with our experience and would not recommend dining at the Inn."

  • "My friend and I visited after about 20 years, and inspired by hearing the recent ads on MyTalk 107.1. She had eggs benedict, I had Huevos Rancheros. The food was fine, my huevos were a little bit ho-hum. Not much love in the preparation. What kept the service from being excellent was again, a fine waiter, but serviceable, more than sprectacular. He didn't offer us any drinks to start (there was a gorgeous bloody mary at a nearby table) nor dessert after the meal. It felt like he didn't really want to go the extra effort. We were also cleaned up and hopefully fashionably dressed. Not a case where he felt we couldn't afford it."

  • "Ambiance was splendid, view was great, Host was very warm and friendly as was our server Kim. The 40.00 steak was extremely overcooked, it was a tenderloin and was served cut in half in order to make it appear less cooked and to possibly stop the cooking process. I ordered the steak very, very Pink throughout, closer to Medium Rare than Medium, I also said to error on the side of being undercooked, I received a well done to possibly medium well done steak. Very disappointed with the steak on my birthday meal. Everything else was very nice indeed. My friend had lamb and it was very rare, so apparently they we able to cook that to order. Now I wish I would have ordered the scallops."

  • "Arrived timely; host rather rude. Checked v-mail later, had msg: "Hello, this is the Nicollet Island Inn calling. We had a reservation for you this evening at 7. It is now 7:30 so I hope you're okay and haven't gotten into a car accident [at this point the person who left the message chuckled] or anything as traumatic as that. But I'm going to put you down for a no show..." Offensive, inappropriate message. We were in the dining room at the time the message was left, which makes it even more insulting. We expect more from an establishment that seems to strive for elegance and class. Emailed Cory (supposedly a manager) about this; asked him to please let us know how he was going to handle it. No response, no apology. Will never go back."

  • "Had a great Sunday brunch at the Nicollet Island Inn. Service was super, food choices and quality were top notch, and it was reasonably priced. Location is awesome, great view of the river, quiet & solitary, etc."

  • "Excellent choice for a restaurant. The ambience, food, service, outdoor patio....all above excellent. My husband will choose to dine here over and over."

  • "I always enjoy the river view and the ambiance. The food was OK. The waiter on the other hand, was alternately brusquely efficient or nowhere to be seen. At one point he practically rolled his eyes when we asked about a dish. Unpleasant, business-like interactions."
    Dined on 7/24/2014
  • "The 3 appetizers we shared were outstanding, worth the cost of the visit. Our 3 entrées were very good but not great. Service and ambience were excellent."
    Dined on 7/23/2014
  • "The food was excellent. We started off with the fromage (3 choices of cheese) all of which were very good. The bread was not however; it was rubbery. We also wanted to have the lobster bruchetta but were told they were sold out and there was a crab bruchetta instead. Main course we had the strip steak, trophie and the lamb. All were tasty. The scalloped potatoes served with the steak were divine. We also all had dessert; ganache with strawberries was good but a bit too much (WAY too sweet and rich for the amount of strawberries with the chocolate) the rhubarb panna cotta was excellent. Over all nice evening if not a bit overpriced. I also did not enjoy the dated decor however I understand this is what gives the place its "charm"."

  • "Indifferent food and expensive. An old school restaurant, not up to the food standards of the current scene. But a lovely setting by the river, worth a visit just to check it out but not worth returning."
