I like to pick random date nights for my wife and treat her to romantic, upscale destinations. This historic location is perfect for anyone planning the same! It's a short walk to the riverside, the dam, and the Stone Bridge; don't forget the small-audience St. Anthony Theatre, only 4 blocks away. We were welcomed by the owner and general manager, wonderful and knowledged staff, and felt very comfortable! The decor is antique, but well-maintained; very welcoming; generous table space (to get in and out). A complimentary appetizer was served; we don't recall the name, but it was a cube of honeydew, topped with smoked trout, finely shredded radish and cucumber, and crowned with flying fish roe: absolutely amazing! We'll be returning again!

My wife and I did the 5-course tasting menu brunch and we thought it was a high quality meal and a very good value. The courses are designed to be less than a full portion, so in the end you don't walk away stuffed to the max. The Nic's Benedict with the house smoked salmon was particularly good. The main course for us was the Steelhead trout and Strip Steak. The trout was excellent; hot and tender and served with a butter-based farro. The steak was cooked to our request, but it was a bit chewier than we like. The Lobster Bruschetta was exceptional; flavorful. The final course was really memorable; lemon meringue tartlet and chamomile panna cotta. the desert servings were large and really topped off the meal nicely. It was great.

Nicollet Island Inn is a lovely facility however the food was a bit disappointing. The filet was served already sliced and was luke warm. The vegetables served with the filet were too salty. The potatoes that came with the strip steak were not cooked enough. Based on the price of our dinners I would expect the food to be exceptional.

We enjoyed the intimacy of a table which provided entertainment of people enjoying the segways, hack carriage riders, runners and walkers, plus the river. It was a birthday celebration so we enjoyed cocktails and visiting before ordering and our waitress was excellent keeping an eye on us till we ordered. The fish courses were excellent nicely presented and prepared with side trimmings. The pasta was lack luster in presentation and flavor. Tasty side dishes of asparagus and brussels sprouts were delicious with grilled smoky flavor. The dessert to share was chocolate ganache with strawberry was superb, but not birthday complimentary. In the future I'd try the prix fix meals for a better value. A lovely evening and great hospitality.

Enjoyed the food and view at Nicollet Inn. We had the five course option and it provided ample food at a good price. Quiche with roasted cauliflower and Gruyere cheese was delicious. My steelhead main course was served perfectly cooked, slightly rare. Desserts were especially nice. The lemon tart was very flavorful and the panna cotta with rhubarb my favorite for local flavor! Our server was attentive and always anticipated our needs and questions. Well worth the stop for brunch .

I have to say that I was disappointed about the food, especially the presentation. It was presented on a plate like in a regular family restaurant (not creative at all and almost a bit messy). I had walleye, which was bone-dry - totally overcooked. I think there are better places in this city if you are willing to spend this kind of money. Service and ambiance was very good though.

The atmosphere: beautiful views of the mississippi with fine dining elegance.

We celebrated our 43rd anniversary at the Nicollet Island Inn. The entire staff was welcoming and accommodating. We had a wonderful table and attentive service. The salad we chose (spinach and asparagus with a poached egg) was unusual and quite good. We both had the beef tenderloin, which was tender, succulent and cooked exactly as requested. The lemon tartlett was an excellent way to conclude the meal. A plus at this location is the carriage ride (operated separately from the Inn but just outside of it). This is a great place to celebrate an anniversary.

I hosted an out of town supplier from Florida for dinner. This was a wonderful site and she so enjoyed seeing some of the more scenic parts of Minneapolis instead of the inside of 4 walls of most downtown Minneapolis restaurants. The service was wonderful as was the food. Walleye was a special treat for her and she thoroughly enjoyed it and the presentation. We especially enjoyed the ability to speak and be heard despite the dining area being full with diners.

This is our second time back here and it was just as amazing as the first. We came here for our anniversary and they went above and beyond my expectations. Flowers at the table and complimentary champagne with dessert was just the start!! The food was incredible as always with a wide range of flavors and great options as well. I highly recommend their scallops and steaks. The atmosphere was perfect and quiet as we came here on a Sunday night. Rebecca was our waitress and she couldn't have been better. Not intrusive and extremely helpful when making decisions about what to order. Honestly I can't say enough positive things about this place. We will be loyal customers well into the future. Thanks again!!

We received incredible service from all parties from the time we approached the lobby until we exited. Since we had requested a quieter seating, the staff placed us in a corner table, with a view and very little noise. The bar makes excellent drinks. The four of us ordered all different dishes; the onion soup was a winner and the house salad was excellent. Our issue was with the entrees: They were no better than we could get at restaurants charging half the price. Sorry. But we will return for what we hear is an outstanding piano bar on Sat. nights - a tribute to those great beverages. Oh yes, the lemon meringue dessert was a complete winner.

We had not dined for decades at Nicollet Island Inn, so it was nice to return to see if things had changed....no they hadn't. Our dinners were very delicious and the service outstanding. This night, the Maitre d and our server were called Cory, which made their names easy to remember and both men was very cordial and courteous. I had requested a table with the river view, which was granted and our area was very, very quiet with just our table for 2 people, which was perfect. Then my husband, who has a hearing problem, and I could carry on table conversation. The ambiance is beautiful, just as I had remembered.

The food was amazing--I had the asparagus salad, which was SO GOOD, and Hubby had the crabcakes, which were delicious. We shared the walleye, and ordered the roasted Brussels sprouts. Yum! We each got a lemon tartlet for desert, and it was a great finish. The service was attentive without being too much 'there'. We took a little walk afterwards, and it was very pretty--a beautiful evening. The next time we're in MN, we plan to actually stay at this inn.

I enjoyed the Inn over 10 years ago and decided to visit it again with my husband for our anniversary. The Inn advertises the great view of the skyline, but you only see a fee buildings. The waitstaff was not particularly friendly. The food was average - at best. We wished we had crossed the river to the lively sense across the river. We were very disappointed with our experience and would not recommend dining at the Inn.
