We had a lovely dinner with close friends. The food was top-notch - as always - and the ambiance was great...until the last 30 minutes. At that point, a couple of very loud 20-somethings decided to plant themselves down and proceed to talk *very loudly* on their cell phones. We asked both the server and the manager to intervene, but this didn't seem to do the trick. We overhead the table next to us walk out due to this, and we followed next. TO MANAGEMENT: Yours is a fine dining establishment. Loud and prolonged cell phone conversations should NOT be tolerated in your dining room. Your diners should not have to point this out! Train your staff to be proactive about stopping such events.

Visited Nicollet Island Inn for brunch on 10/12/14 to celebrate a birthday. I made the reservation on the 13th and added the birthday piece about an hour before the reservation on Sunday. The staff was aware of the birthday and provided wishes on several occasions. The brunch had some good taste treats. My favorite was the Nik's Benedict. The chocolate tart for dessert was excellent as well. We ordered one 3-course brunch and one 5-course brunch since we like to share. The serving sizes for each course were the right size and we left comfortably full.

I can never quite figure out Nicollet Island Inn, for some things are really good and others are simply not; for example, the lobster roll was outstanding, but the accompanying salad greens were far from fresh--a surprising lapse from a purportedly serious kitchen. We also waited an inordinately long time for our meal to arrive--although the service was otherwise very good. So I would give it a B-. Not bad, but they could do much better!

I had the scallops, they were great but there were only 3 of them, not many for the price. My husband had the tenderloin steak, he thought it was excellent. I did try a couple of bites and it was great. I asked in the reservation to get a seat by the window, the hostess gave us a table not by a window and had to ask again. She did seat us there but why put that in the request and then not put us there to begin with?

Went here with my husband for our second anniversary. I added in the details of our reservation what we were celebrating and we were given so many well wishes. I think we were told happy anniversary around 5 or 6 times. They also gifted us both with champagne to toast our special day. Yummy food. Great ambiance. Great place to dress up for and not feel awkwardly overdressed.

The fall colors and softly flowing river were gorgeous accompaniments to a fine meal. All five courses were just fabulous, and the mimosas and Bloody Mary's delicious. Especially noteworthy were the quiche and the lobster bruschetta. The beef stroganoff, a new entry, is made of shredded beef in a surprisingly light sauce, with fresh mushrooms. Delicious. The pumpkin brule to complete the meal was extraordinary, with raisins poached in honey to top the brule. I wouldn't have included the raisins if I were making it at home, and that would have been my mistake. I nearly asked for more. The service was as great as always.

My boyfriend and I had a very enjoyable dinner at Nicollet Island Inn a few nights ago. We had the asparagus salad, beef tenderloin, and steelhead trout, with Sauvignon blanc wine. It was a delicious meal, and our server was great. The manager also was making sure everything was satisfactory for all of the diners. We will return. It's a great place for a nice dinner before seeing a movie at St. Anthony Main.

Waiter was personable, unfortunately he had the entire room to service. Which meant once the food was delivered he was too busy to stop back. The hostess that seated us originally told us the restaurant was not open yet ,even though we had reservations! The waiter set her straight, they actually had been " open" for 30 minutes. Our food was very good. The waiter, who was also the bartender made the BEST Sweet Brandy Old Fashion drinks! Would recommend the restaurant for lunch and would like to try their weekend brunch, but would hope that they would be sufficiently staffed.

I like to pick random date nights for my wife and treat her to romantic, upscale destinations. This historic location is perfect for anyone planning the same! It's a short walk to the riverside, the dam, and the Stone Bridge; don't forget the small-audience St. Anthony Theatre, only 4 blocks away. We were welcomed by the owner and general manager, wonderful and knowledged staff, and felt very comfortable! The decor is antique, but well-maintained; very welcoming; generous table space (to get in and out). A complimentary appetizer was served; we don't recall the name, but it was a cube of honeydew, topped with smoked trout, finely shredded radish and cucumber, and crowned with flying fish roe: absolutely amazing! We'll be returning again!

My wife and I did the 5-course tasting menu brunch and we thought it was a high quality meal and a very good value. The courses are designed to be less than a full portion, so in the end you don't walk away stuffed to the max. The Nic's Benedict with the house smoked salmon was particularly good. The main course for us was the Steelhead trout and Strip Steak. The trout was excellent; hot and tender and served with a butter-based farro. The steak was cooked to our request, but it was a bit chewier than we like. The Lobster Bruschetta was exceptional; flavorful. The final course was really memorable; lemon meringue tartlet and chamomile panna cotta. the desert servings were large and really topped off the meal nicely. It was great.

Nicollet Island Inn is a lovely facility however the food was a bit disappointing. The filet was served already sliced and was luke warm. The vegetables served with the filet were too salty. The potatoes that came with the strip steak were not cooked enough. Based on the price of our dinners I would expect the food to be exceptional.

We enjoyed the intimacy of a table which provided entertainment of people enjoying the segways, hack carriage riders, runners and walkers, plus the river. It was a birthday celebration so we enjoyed cocktails and visiting before ordering and our waitress was excellent keeping an eye on us till we ordered. The fish courses were excellent nicely presented and prepared with side trimmings. The pasta was lack luster in presentation and flavor. Tasty side dishes of asparagus and brussels sprouts were delicious with grilled smoky flavor. The dessert to share was chocolate ganache with strawberry was superb, but not birthday complimentary. In the future I'd try the prix fix meals for a better value. A lovely evening and great hospitality.

Enjoyed the food and view at Nicollet Inn. We had the five course option and it provided ample food at a good price. Quiche with roasted cauliflower and Gruyere cheese was delicious. My steelhead main course was served perfectly cooked, slightly rare. Desserts were especially nice. The lemon tart was very flavorful and the panna cotta with rhubarb my favorite for local flavor! I have to say that I was disappointed about the food, especially the presentation. It was presented on a plate like in a regular family restaurant (not creative at all and almost a bit messy). I had walleye, which was bone-dry - totally overcooked. I think there are better places in this city if you are willing to spend this kind of money. Service and ambiance was very good though.

We celebrated our 43rd anniversary at the Nicollet Island Inn. The entire staff was welcoming and accommodating. We had a wonderful table and attentive service. The salad we chose (spinach and asparagus with a poached egg) was unusual and quite good. We both had the beef tenderloin, which was tender, succulent and cooked exactly as requested. The lemon tartlett was an excellent way to conclude the meal. A plus at this location is the carriage ride (operated separately from the Inn but just outside of it). This is a great place to celebrate an anniversary.

I hosted an out of town supplier from Florida for dinner. This was a wonderful site and she so enjoyed seeing some of the more scenic parts of Minneapolis instead of the inside of 4 walls of most downtown Minneapolis restaurants. The service was wonderful as was the food. Walleye was a special treat for her and she thoroughly enjoyed it and the presentation. We especially enjoyed the ability to speak and be heard despite the dining area being full with diners.

Flowers at the table and complimentary champagne with dessert was just the start!! The food was incredible as always with a wide range of flavors and great options as well. I highly recommend their scallops and steaks. The atmosphere was perfect and quiet as we came here on a Sunday night. Rebecca was our waitress and she couldn't have been better. Not intrusive and extremely helpful when making decisions about what to order. Honestly I can't say enough positive things about this place. We will be loyal customers well into the future.
