This was my second attempt at this place and the failed very badly - again, so much that my GF and I had to leave the place without ordering anything. The staff has an unnecessary uptight attitude, even though they were semi empty they didn't assign the table we wanted, the menu is very limited, and the waiters attitude terrible - we just stood up and left without dining.

This is one of my very favorite restaurants in the neighborhood. The waitstaff is very very good at what they do. Food is absolutely fantastic. Recommend sitting on the patio for a fantastic experience. We are making our way through the lunch and dinner menu. Can't wait to try it all!

I have dined at Osteria Nico on two separate occasions (Brunch on Saturday and Dinner at mid week). For the prices they are charging, they cannot afford to have inexperienced wait staff with bad attitudes and poor table manners, food which is average at best, and tapas sized portions that are passed off as entrees. Poor service, forgettable food, poor value. As an alternative, try Riccardo Trattoria or Sofi. These are the best Italian restaurants in the city, less the hype.

It's refreshing to have really good food with impeccable preparation. Nothing fancy here--we basically had a sort of crab toast, a pasta dish, and roasted fish. Loved the fresh bread. The only thing that didn't fit was dessert, the Nico torte, which I'd have again in a second. It was outstanding, but just saying that it was so complex and sophisticated that it seemed out of place in the scheme of things. We had a knowledgeable, engaging wait person, Dustin. The restaurant design itself is nothing to write home about.

My husband and I had the fatty tuna which was delish but kinda pricy. The grilled octopus was a popular item from the reviews on yelp, we tried that and it was good. I had the lobster spagetti and my husband had the veal. They were both good but alittle salty for our taste buds. Overall, we had a good experience, service was good, food was good, ambieance was nice. I would recommend this restaurant.

Excellent food, but some unexpected presentation. Both the crab appetizer and the grilled octopus appetizer were served on toast. The Branzino with heirloom tomatoes was outstanding, though the bill was a shock. The price on the menu was per pound, but it is easy to overlook that when ordering and it would be good to have the waiter give some indication of what to expect on the front end without the customer having to ask.

The food - grilled octopus bruschetta and sweetbreads w/beets were most interesting and flavorful. The dessert (Nico Torte) was one of the best desserts I've ever had. The one food item I didn't care for as much was the squid ink conchiglie. The menu said it came with big eye tuna; it did not say that it was big eye tuna sausage. I would have preferred chunks of tuna (grilled, seared, whatever) rather than pulverized into sausage, or at least told what to expect. The service was friendly but way too SLOW. The worst part - the barstools were too high and my legs were uncomfortable to the point where I could not focus/carry on a conversation or enjoy myself (made worse by the slow paced service). DO NOT SIT AT THE CHEF'S COUNTER. Painful.

This was my second time Nico Osteria. Overall service was good but once the place started getting busy it was hard to get our server. Not many healthy choices. Wanted to substitue side for something with no/less butter and was not able to do that. Green beans on my entree were cold, so was the cauliflower that my friend ordered. Was told that this is the way they are meant to be served. Price does not warrant food quality/taste.

Ok, so I know its a 'Chicago thing' to be squeezed into tables like sardines, but really? I kept elbowing the couple next to me. Having said that, we had to wait 20 minutes for our table, even though we had a reservation, well in advance. Also, so loud, I had to ask my friend what the waitress said everytime she left the table! The food was great, but out of alot of specials. Interesting to have this experience, because at first I had a reservation at the fig and olive but cancelled because service reviews were spotty. We ended up there the NEXT night and it was fabulous! Everything was consistent. Ate in the lounge and the service, food and drinks couldn't have been better. Sorry Nico...

The table wasn't ready when we arrived so they wanted to seat us in the "salon". The hostess tried to seat us in an area that already had guests who had no intention of sharing. We found somewhere else to sit, but our drinks took forever. They arrived just as we were to be seated, and they wouldn't transfer the check to the table, which was on the end near the kitchen. It was very busy and nearly every server passed by too close to the table. Our crudo took way too long to arrive, as did the bruschetta which was burnt. The main courses arrived while we still eating the appetizer. They were mediocre at best. The best part of the evening was the Manhattan. We won't be back.

My husband and I went there for dinner for our anniversary this past weekend. We had an 8:15 reservation and waited 10 minutes for our table. We were seated at a table for two, but we might have well been dining with the couples next to us. The tables are only inches apart. Normally I hate that, but this night we were lucky to be seated next to some very nice, easy going people who went along with the crazy situation. We even went out for drinks with the father/son who sat next to us. That said, you may want to request a booth or go with 4 people. The food was good, but we were disappointed the frito misto only comes in one size. They should offer a smaller portion. The pasta was yummy and the service was good. Very loud atmosphere.

Seafood paradise in a very trendy part of town. You cannot go wrong: the oysters, various "Italian style sashimi" to the grilled octopus. Solid cocktails, decent wine list. Two dishes were outstanding: the squid ink pasta with an unusual sauce and the amazing salt crusted branzino. And if you still have space don't miss the Tiramisu and the cardamom gelato.

The menu is sensible Italian: somewhat lighter fare, moderate-size portions, more herbs than cheeses. Nico bills itself as a seafood place, so we had starter plates of tuna and madai, garganelli pasta (bits of shrimp) and a whole dover sole to share. They were good (though the pasta was just Okay) but expensive. Starters and pasta courses hover around $20, entrees (except for chicken) start at about $35 and go higher, quite a bit higher. The food is not quite good enough, nor the starter servings ample enough, to justify those price tags. Nico is basically a Place To Be Seen, appealing to visitors and The Titled. Service was unnecessarily rushed and too patronizing. We knew more about seafood than our waiter.
