Our hostess and server were great. It was my girlfriends birthday and I wanted it to be a special night and it was. They sat us by the door on a 10 degree night and let people in useing the side doors opposed to the turnstyle doors in turn sending serious chills throughout the space every 5 minutes. The food was great the drinks were great the server was great the VALET was rude and parked our car at the corner and didnt let us know for 20 minutes then rudely said "its been down there for 20 minutes and stuck his hand out for money". I just spent hundreds if dollars for dinner then that guy kinda ruined it...I wish I had his name...

Adorable spot in wonderful neighborhood with really good food. There was too much salt on the chicken saltimbocca, but everything was delicious. Try to get a table on the side or a booth. The tables in the middle are too close together, and I could hear the conversation of the people beside me who were in town for the same conference. It was also a little bright, something about which I would usually never complain.

We've been going to Nico Osteria since it opened. The experience is consistently outstanding, from the service to the ambience, and above all, the food. We have our favorites but each time we are there we find a new menu item to tempt us out of our habits. Combining the now "standbys" for familiarity and a new pasta with sausage and clams (yum!!) made this visit another home run. Thanks guys!!

we walked in from the hotel and were looking for the entrance... one of the female servers working in that section took us all the way around to the host stand to make sure we checked in at the right place... goes to show you they have some great people and great training. We were a little early so they escorted us to a table in the lounge to wait... again, nice touch. The energy was high... it was Saturday at 9:00pm... there was a great vibe. One of the hosts came to tell us our table would be ready in just a moment in order to give us a chance to settle our drink tab... we went to the host stand, waited only seconds and were escorted to our table. Those people who've been commenting here on OT not liking the ways the 2 top tables are situated so close... it's supposed to be this way. Where do you think you are, the suburbs ? This is not a restaurant to come with 2 people looking for a romantic setting... the name is Osteria... look it up. If you're looking to dine with others and enjoy your food and talk with others, this is the place. The food... can't say enough how great each and every plate we had was. Again... it was perfect. Our server was pleasant, knowledgeable and suggested items when we weren't sure what something was. This is what you would expect when you go to a restaurant managed by One Off Hospitality Group. I highly recommend Nico... I dont know why I waited so long to visit. Thank you

It was good. The oysters were amazing, but the food was so- so. I feel like there are too many restaurants in Chicago that are amazing. As an out-of-towner I pick restaurants that I only get to go once a year and this is one that that I probably wouldn't return to.

The food is quite creative and very well prepared. Wine selection, predominantly Italian, is excellent both by the bottle and by the glass with prices actually quite reasonable, in a wide range of price points. Service was well orchestrated. Atmosphere has that trendy vibe. We typically avoid restaurants in hotels since they usually disappoint. However in Nico's case it is quite the find for innovative Italian food.

Duty has me in Chicago at least four times annually. Usually meeting at/near the airport, but for Nico Osteria, I'll add a day and come downtown. Simply outstanding from the hostess (s) greeting, to the mixologist, to the server and even the folks who sat next to us. I've already recommended it to fellow Chicagoans and travelers and only been home one day!

great small plates for sharing, loved the whole fish. All delicious, very creative, well prepared. Service outstanding. Most tables for 2 are in a long row and shoulder to shoulder which I hate. I spotted a lone table for 2 which we grabbed. Had we not had that table I would not have enjoyed the experience as much, would be impossible to hold a conversation sitting that close to two other tables, that would be my negative on this restaurant, the configuration of two-tops. I realize it was a way to squeeze in a lot of 2's, but its not for me!. Luckily we had a more private table and did not have to listen to other conversations. The restaurant is quite loud, but the food makes it all worth it and I would definitely go back again.

I have been on open table for many years and this is the first review I am writing. I have been to Nico numerous times before and have had very good experiences. I had to write this review based on the horrible treatment we received after paying the bill. I took 6 people from work and customers had a decent experience and the food was good. After we paid the bill $1,200 all in with tip the hostess asked us to leave as they have another reservation. I am not one to hang around and hold up a table, but we were finishing our conversation and close to leaving when she did this. I can not grasp how after spending that kind of money you can be treated that way. I will never go back and I will make sure to tell everyone I know not to go.

My husband and I dined there for our anniversary this past Saturday night hoping for a romantic, dinner with great food. The food was excellent. Our waiter was charming. The disappointing part was after waiting in the bar for almost an hour we were seated at a small table near the front of the hotel entrance, shoulder to shoulder with other groups of two. This was so unacceptable for a high end restaurant. In fact a couple sat down next to us and after 5 minutes they got up and left. That is what we should h ave done. If you want great food and fabulous ambience go to Bavette's and forget Nico. We won't be back, nor will we recommend the restaurant.

Nico Osteria is amazing. The food is out of this world and the service is spectacular. It was my wife's birthday and everyone on the staff wished her happy birthday and made her feel welcomed. The food blew us away. One of my wife's favorite food is oysters and the Hog Island Oysters with caviar made her day. We had the Goat Cheese Carmella which was delicious. My wife had the rainbow trout and I had the Nico Dry-Aged Ribeye which were both outstanding. Overall this is one of our best dining experiences we have ever had. This is a must for anyone who enjoys great food and service.

This restaurant offered a wide variety of both seafood and non-seafood dishes, all of them were superb. We started with oysters and they were done very cleverly. We then got the prosciutto goat cheese dish, which was also very good (the savory doughnuts were great). We then got stuffed pasta and the white fish, which was unreal. The best dish for me was the crab bruschetta. Wine and cocktails were great. The only negative was the waiter kind of pushed us to order more and since you order it all at the beginning, we were uncomfortably full by the end of the meal. Otherwise I'd definitely recommend this restaurant!

Dining at Nico is alway an exceptional experience and the service is friendly and unpretentious. My only complaint is, because of the odd L-shaped dining room, the seating for duces is so tight as to be uncomfortably close to the joining tables. I really don't want to be a party to the discussion of the table next to me, but this is a minor complaint.

Went to Nico for my anniversary dinner. We arrived there about 2 mins. after our resso time and they didn't have menus ready so they had us wait at the bar until they had the menus ready. Food was outstanding, service was very personable; one note - what's with all the kids? I thought this was an upscale dining establishment, and while I understand you can't predict population on a friday night, i felt like it was too kid friendly. Everything else was fantastic. We had lunch here in the summer, it was great, that is why we returned for dinner. The dinner experience was quite different. If you want to sit and have a relaxing dinner this is not the place. The food is ordered and within 10 minutes the first course is delivered, the bus boy obviously walks around the tables, within seconds of finishing your food he is there to remove your plate. The next course is delivered just as fast and swept away just as fast. We were seated and out within an hour. As far as the food goes…the spices are overwhelming and did not blend well. We travel a lot and have dined at some great restaurants, this was not one of them.

Had a wonderful meal ... Our server was engaging and attentive ... Sitting at the counter allowed us to engage the kitchen staff (also engaging). The reason for 4 not 5 stars for service is based on the host/hostess ... They knew it was our anniversary and our options were the counter (fun but not at all romantic) or a table in the passage between the front door and the bar... They might as well have said that first time patrons don't get great tables- the honesty would have been refreshing ...

This place is great because it is nicer italian/american fusion that is all designed to be shared by the table, and I love that approach since we all get to try more things! The ambiance here is great too and it has an open kitchen with a chefs viewing bar dining area I would love to sit in if/when I come back here. The highlights food wise were the whole rainbow trout--my goodness so good! And the big eye tuna crudo, the crab bruschetta, and this pork and truffle papperdelle! So much food and our server helped us order exactly the right amount. Huge, almost overwhelming wine list too, but the sommelier is great!

We tried Nico Osteria before the theater in the loop. Because they are open prior to 5 we were able to enjoy a great meal and still get to a 7:30 p.m. show. The meals are made for sharing and sampling. But it doesn't have a Tapas vibe. Your waiter really knew the menu even the obscure digestive liquor menu. The fish was really fresh and interestingly prepared.

Fantastic all around experience. Started with craft cocktails in a beautiful bar and then moved to a lovely table along the Windows where we enjoyed a fantastic multi-course meal. The service was impeccable! Can't wait to return.

Good food, mediocre service. Long wait to be seated, then at times difficult to get our server's attention.
