We had a group of 16 and called ahead. Half our group had to sit at 4 top booths. The service was very confused. When we discovered the option on the back of the menu (including a bottle of wine for 2) this confused the server and threw them off. The server only took the order from those wanting these foods first. Then he left the table. A seperate female waitress arrived. Everyone else got a different waiter and one guest never got his salad. The food delivery staff played "Who's got the..." Dessert was never served. Fortunately we had a CPA dining with us that had to rectify guest checks. The Service staff just couldn't get out of their own way. The food was great, back of the house got it going on!

Being in an old movie theater, this was a nice, local place in Gastonia. We were looking forward to seeing a movie on the screen rather than college football, but we know how it goes. The service was excellent. It was a little more pricey for Gastonia than we expected, but well worth it for the ambiance and food.

My husband, my parents, and I decided to enjoy Nick's one Sunday evening recently. The first visit we felt that our food was rushed to the table but still very good. We asked the waitress to take things slow and she gladly obliged. Food was close to excellent! We all had steak, the Nick's best filet was cooked perfectly to order. Salad was fresh with house made dressings. The brie and the firecracker shrimp were very good appetizers. I would have enjoyed a few more shrimp on the plate for the price of the app. It never seems busy enough at the restaurant when we have been, I am concerned they will not stay open at this rate. It would be a shame to lose a local higher-end eatery such as Nick's though.

Recently dined at Nick's with a group of four. The atmosphere is great, and the beer selection was surprising (though the Red Oak tap was dry). Unfortunately, there was apparently a large group seated upstairs, and this significantly delayed the food service. Smaller groups (e.g. my group of four) seated downstairs waited at least an hour after ordering for the food to be served. The meal was served at least 45 minutes after we had finished our salads. Of course, these things happen, but the larger issue is that the wait staff made little to no effort to explain the delay. Communication is key.

We didn't know at the time we took my mother there for her birthday that you get 50% off your entree on your big day! She had the filet mignon and loved it. I had the ribeye and it was flavorful. My husband had the prime rib and it also was good. I have to say that the staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome and recognized my mother's special 87th very nicely! The history of this old 30's movie theater is special. Candlelight is on every table and in every booth table which is a plus with us!

I must say I expected great things from Nick's Steak and Taphouse, however the experience was far less than great. It took us 10 minutes to have our drink orders taken only to be told they did not have what we wanted. We then order a different drink that took another 15 minutes to receive 2 bottled beers. Now, normally this would not have phased me had the restaurant been busy but they only had about 15 tables in use and no customers at the bar. After we order - now mind you there was only two of us and order straight off the menu with no changes - it took another 45 minutes to receive our food. All in all, the slow service and subpar food (not hot and not much flavor) will not have me returning to Nicks.

Nicks Steakhouse was defiantly not what we expected it to be! The food was bland, portions were extremely small for the price, our food came out cold! Also our food came out wrong according to the description on the menu, we actually had to ask our waitress about it and she even said we were missing items or ingredients! Nicks defiantly loves shellfish also, almost everything in the menu had shellfish, and my husband is allergic to shellfish and when we asked if certain things on the menu could be made without shellfish we were told no so that defiantly limited my husband on what he could order! This was our first time at Nicks and unfortunately this will be our last, and we wouldn't recommend this place to any of our friends or family!

Food was of strong quality: steak was wonderful, quality cut, cooked to perfection. Salad was sub-par, strawberries on the salad were wilted. Side of fresh corn and asparagus was great, and potato cake was delish. Service was ok, not very personable and didn't spend too much time helping us, dressed very causal for high end dining (stretch pants, sneakers, no apron). For the price, this place needs to step up their service to match the quality and price of their food.

I came in with high hopes and left disappointed. Hostess had our reservation and sat us immediately. We looked over the menu and made our drink selection but it took almost 10 minutes to get someone to take our drink order. A few minutes later our waitress (different from the one who took our drink order) showed up with the drinks. She apologized but timeliness was just not her thing. We got our food quickly enough but waited a long time to get our check... The food was lackluster. The fried artichoke appetizer was bland and not crispy at all - definitely needed salt. The grilled steaks were good but in no way exceptional. All the chicken dishes have cheese and bacon, wtf?. Brussel sprouts were underdone.

We have been here 4 times and always enjoy this dining experience. The food is great -- and we have tried a variety of their menu. Also -- all the staff helps -- not just the waitress assigned -- everyone fills glasses -- and if your food is up -- then someone brings it to you. And you are always attended well by the assigned waitress.

We were disappointed in our dining experience at Nick's. We ordered Nick's Filet as our entrees, and we both felt our steak really had no flavor. The salad wasn't very good, and the fries were greasy. For the money we spent, we expected much better quality food. This was our first visit to Nick's and we have no intention of returning.

Delightful surprise! Had read mixed reviews so we were cautious. From hostess to bartender, and wait staff everyone was pleasant and accommodating. After taking our order, the waiter returned for clarification. He was so embarrassed, he brought us a complimentary appetizer, crab dip with pita points. Although unnecessary, it was exceptional with yummy pieces of crab. Two in our party ordered the stuffed flounder and substituted the brussel sprouts for the whipped potatoes. Great! Also had the seafood plate and a burger - excellent. The burger tasted like prime rib. Portion sizes were just right without being too large. The atmosphere in the old theater was fun. We normally eat out in Charlotte, but add this treasure to our options!

  • Disappointing

We made reservations for the Easter buffet at Nick's. The food had obviously been sitting out all day, (we went towards the end of the day but still expecting the food to be refreshed). The food was lukewarm, they never refilled the caesar salad after it was emptied, and the selection was pitiful for the exorbitant price of $18.99 a person I expected much much more. We were told when we called to make the reservation that we would be able to order off the menu, however this was not the case when we arrived. This would not have been a problem if the food selection and quality hadn't been so terrible. This is not the first time we have been disappointed by this restaurant, however it will be the last as we will not be dining here again.

To be fair, the place has so much potential since it's an old converted movie theater. The bar had a fair amount of beer selections so it lives up to its name however the food was poor. We dined during the week so we did not have a chance to try the "famous Prime Rib." The food seemed to be frozen and just heated with sauce. Nothing special by any measure... If you are looking for a casual place with a above average beer selection, Nick's Tap Room fits the bill however if you are expecting "fine Gastonia" dining, this place should not be on your radar. As for the service, our bartender was friendly and attentive however our waiter did not know too much of the menu items. The service was average so nothing too bad or great at the same time.

The Bison meatloaf was great. Shrimp and grits? We'll grits were hard not done and the sauce tasted funny-not good. The side portions were pitiful I had 2 bites and my steamed vegetables were gone. My son had about 4 bites f mashed potatoes and that was it. Salads were very small. It was slow and our drinks still got empty. The cheesecake was great! And my daughter got 50% off her meal for her birthday. The 2 dudes at bar were a little loud. Overall not bad. Will go back.
