A word from Nick's Riverside Grille
Nick's Riverside Grille is a family-owned waterfront restaurant serving great American fare, fine steaks, authentic pasta dishes and the freshest seafood. Perched on the Potomac River, our views include Roosevelt Island, the Kennedy Center, Key Bridge and Rosslyn.

We are a perfect place to bring a date for a romantic candlelit dinner in one of our sun rooms. Or bring a group and sit in the larger dining room overlooking the majestic Washington Harbour Fountain and Ice Skating Rink in the winter.

The outdoor patio and bar are open for business from mid-March through November and any beautiful days in between. No reservations are accepted for outdoor dining, as it is first-come, first-served only.

Diner Reviews
  • "Food was excellent and the atmosphere was enjoyable. Liked that it was a classy restaurant but you could still view TVs/sports games/etc. We sat inside but the large windows next to us opened up to the boardwalk which enahanced the experience as well. Overall, thought it was a great spot!"

  • "The ONLY aspect of this restaurant that is worthwhile is the outdoor seating looking out over the waterfront and the Potomac. Otherwise the food is so bad as to be laughable."

  • "The food was amazing, presented beautifully. The outdoor dining was absolutely perfect. We had brought out of town guests that were stunned by the delicious food and atmosphere. Our server was amazing as well!"

  • "This is a fine restaurant to grab a drink and sit outside with a beautiful view of the water, but don't expect a decent meal . . . or even silverware, which I had to walk inside to get myself. Service was slow and inattentive."

  • "We were going to the Kennedy Center to see the Lion King and it was my birthday so I thought it would be a nice place to try. As it turns out, it's really just a bar type place for happy hour, catch a game, etc; not a prelude to the Kennedy Center. If I were to go back it would be for a burger and fries or wings and beer."

  • "I was able to break away for some R&R and Nick's was perfect. The outdoor views! The amazing food! And a very attentive waiter! Thank you. I think this will become a summer staple for me!"

  • "Its food and service exceeded my expectations on a very crowded but beautiful day!!"

  • "Everything was better than I anticipated. The food was delicious, the service was friendly and prompt, the atmosphere was fun and entertaining (if you're a people watcher!). The view from the boardwalk was exactly what I wanted. Couldn't ask for anything more."

  • "The only thing this restaurant has going for it is the location. We went there for a special birthday meal for our son and were very disappointed. The service was poor and the food was mediocre. No one came to ask if we wanted more wine, refill our water glasses etc. No manager stopped by to ask us how things were. When we finished, no one came to take plates away. It is an incredible location with a beautiful view of the water but if you're going to spend that kind of money, go somewhere where you feel taken care of."

  • "I wasn't expecting first class dining at Nick's but even then it turned out to be one of the more disappointing dining experiences I had in a long time. The food was okay. The problem was service and not just from the waitress. The waitress wanted to argue with me that I was mistaken when drinks and food were the wrong orders, but when I insisted she check she finally admitted they were incorrect. She kept telling us it was a busy night and the orders were getting messed up, implying that we should just accept the dishes as served even if wrong. More errors like this through the evening. I expect to get what I order, but at Nick's that's just an option."

  • "Very busy Saturday night. 4 of us went for dinner. Got a table inside which was OK but all the 'action' was in the bar as, it seemed, was the attention of the waiter. Took a long time to get drinks and food. The food menu is simple, ostensibly to allow quick service- not this night. Waiter came back 30 minutes after taking our order to say they ran out of one of our dishes. Then he came back 15 min later to say the second selection was not available. We were all in a good mood so laughed it off, but not something you want to repeat. May be inevitable on such a busy night. "

  • "Brought the wrong bottle of wine, shattered all 4 glasses into our table covering myself and daughter's laps. She had bare legs and was still picking out tiny pieces of glass 4 days later. He brought the correct bottle of wine but 2 glasses. Everything I ordered off the one page menu he gave us was not available, including shrimp? He also made me choose a different entre after placing our orders, but then brought the original fish and chips I had ordered in between the apps and entre and charged me for both. The manager did come out personally to tell me that they were out of the dessert we ordered and that the waiter was new and they gave him the wrong menu to give to us. He did not comp us anything? I spent $350 and will never return"

  • "Our server Ricky was very accommodating and the staff (including bussers and hosts) was generally pleasant and helpful. There was an unsightly flood wall up, but that's not really the restaurant's fault. All of our food and drinks came out on time and we had a good experience. Nothing particularly fantastic but nothing bad either. We'll definitely be back in the summer!"

  • "Fun evening, good food and scenic, vibrant location; excellent service."

  • "Food was good, drinks (ice tea and water) kept coming. Takes a while to get your food but if you are lucky enough to be sitting outside overlooking the water, you don't mind."

  • "Worth checking out for the view. I got the burger and a friend got the steak salad - as stated in the title of this review, the food is very average. Because of the location, it is also somewhat overpriced. However, we wanted a waterfront view and it was quite lovely in that respect!"

  • "Great location and good service but the food was cold and it was a fixed price menu with only a few options. Should have been served hot when it was ready. One person had a hot meal so everyone else must have waited for that one meal to finish. Bring it out when it is done !!"

  • "we came here for Easter Brunch. We had booked a table inside for brunch (it was not possible to book outside, because outside the policy is "first come, first served"). The weather was good enough to sit outside, and, really, the charm of this place is the view on the river (Potomac). Inside, we had been given a table in a spot without view, near the bar. Our dilemma: sit outside, and accept that they cant give us the special Easter Brunch menu, or sit inside with the special Brunch and no view? The host (inside) was flexible enough to re-assign us a table inside WITH a view. Ende gut, alles gut! The food was good, the view very nice, and the prices reasonable (23 USD p person for a 2 course brunch with coffee and mimosa). "

  • "I took my 89-year-old mother. She loves seafood and likes a water view, but doesn't paricularly want to be outside. I asked for an inside room with a water view and, despite being crowded, we were accommodated. My mother loved watching the boats come and go, the people strolling the waterfront and the overall view. And the crabcakes were wonderful. The waitress was attentive without hovering. It was a delightful evening."

  • "Once seated, we waited 15 + minutes before a server came to our table. Another 10 mins went by before we received our drinks. The appetizer and salad came AFTER the entres. I asked to speak to the manager who first offered to buy us a desert (aprox $5 value). I had to ask him to remove the appetizer and salad from the bill. As a former restaurant manager, the guest should not have had to ask for the items to be removed. The manager should have apologized and offered to remove the items immediately in light of the meal sequence and possibly offered the desert to make up for the slow service. After the adjustments were made, we waited another 10 mins to close our check. The only positive attribute is the view of Rosslyn over the Potomac."

  • "We were a group of 6 out-of-towners looking for a place to eat in G-Town. Nicks was a good find. The setting is attractive, on the Potomac, even on a chilly early-spring evening. The ambience is riverside bar--frenetic, crowded. But reservation was easy, table was ready when we arrived early. Wait-staff was attentive. Food was typical bar-food: burgers, fish & chips, nachos, etc. Quality was good but not spectacular. Fish and chips were under-seasoned. Salmon nicoise was flavorful. Drinks were plentiful. A good place to go in G-Town in an attractive setting."

  • "Nick's Riverside Grill is tucked into a nice spot so you can view some great sights in DC but feel like you are not in the chaos that surrounds the area. You add the delicious food and its a combination thats hard to beat."

  • "Can't say anything negative about Nick's. The food is good. The serice is good. The restaurant is located at Georgetown Harbour, a great spot. Unlike the restaurants acoss the courtyard, Nick's is noisy...too noisy on the particular Saturday night we were there. So, my reommendation...go to Nick's but just wait until you can sit outdoors and enjoy the fresh air."

  • "So, we had the lobster and mussels chief special and the first thing they forget to bring was the butter, then they forgot one our sides. The special was just bland and we were not expecting the after having some great appetizers. Therefore, if I do return to this place it will just be for happy hour and bar food."

  • "My wife and I enjoyed our time at Nick's Riverside Grill--the setting, service and food were all excellent. We were immediately seated and our table provided a nice view of the ice skating ring with skaters from all ages enjoying the evening. Thank you for helping make our Valentine's Day Evening a very enjoyable and romantic experience."

  • "I recently redeemed a Gilt City voucher to Nick's. I like trying new places through Gilt since they typically only work with top businesses. We had the lobster, and it was completely dried out and tasteless. The mussels were pretty decent, but if you are looking for great seafood, look elsewhere. Service was great and this place would probably be real nice for a summer outdoor brunch being right on the water."

  • "A 2-hour family group brunch on a cold January Saturday was very pleasant with the backdrop of the Potomac and the ice skating rink. Our server Tyrell was great. The place looks fantastic thanks to a complete re-build after the river flooded it a few years ago -- no more smelly dive bar; now it's a classy riverside restaurant!"

  • "I went with my friend to Nick's for an evening out and to take advantage to restaurant week. Our dinner was excellent and the special menu had a excellent variety. Because it was winter time we sat inside however, I want to come back in the spring/summer and have a meal outside."
    Dined on 1/18/2014
  • "Granted, there was a big football game going on, so it was probably a bit rowdier than usual, but the layout of the restaurant is centered around the bar. This means that even if you're on upper level or in main table area, you are right by the bar and/or a large screen TV with a game going on. Food is pretty good, especially for more of a bar scene, though not cheap. Would NOT recommend for a date."

  • "Based on the other reviews, our expectations were low upon arriving at Nick's. We had, however, a very pleasant experience. We were a group of 6 and we had limited time before seeing a show at the Kennedy Center. The staff were aware of this and were very attentive. I did not realize that this is more of a sports bar. Not disappointed, but just making the comment. I had the salmon and green beans and they were well seasoned and cooked perfectly. One member of our group ordered the swordfish and I would make the same comment. Another guest had the crabmeat salad and it was pretty bland, but not terrible. The crabcakes eaten by another guest were tasty but had a lot of filler. Overall our experience was a very pleasant one and I would return."

  • "Nice evening, drinks outside before dinner. Outside bar was large....Ate inside with a party of 7, table was nice, windows behind us opened up to the patio. Felt like we were outside. Menu was limited, but Swordfish was excellent. Other meals were very good!"

  • "It was a great time. It was first time down there in a while. I hadn't been to Nicks before and I was pleased with the decision to go there. Sitting outside with a great view of the water was really nice. It was fun to people watch and enjoy the good food and drink. Seeing the Arlington/Rosslyn area across the water was really pretty, not to mention just the general scene."
