Nick's Riverside Grille is a family-owned waterfront restaurant serving great American fare, fine steaks, authentic pasta dishes and the freshest seafood. Perched on the Potomac River, our views include Roosevelt Island, the Kennedy Center, Key Bridge and Rosslyn.

We are a perfect place to bring a date for a romantic candlelit dinner in one of our sun rooms. Or bring a group and sit in the larger dining room overlooking the majestic Washington Harbour Fountain and Ice Skating Rink in the winter.

The outdoor patio and bar are open for business from mid-March through November and any beautiful days in between. No reservations are accepted for outdoor dining, as it is first-come, first-served only.

It was our first and last visit to Nick's. To be fair, reservations were a snap on Open Table. We walked in, checked in and seated right on time. Love that. Then it fell apart. Wr ordered appetizers and they were good. Then we waiting 30 mins for main dish. We were going to movie so half way through eating- we asked for check. 20 mins later we had to ask manager for check since server disappeared. 15 mins later we just stood by register waiting and finally got someone to help to pay. Average food with good service will get us to return. Average food with nonexistent service is NEVER AGAIN! Bye Nick's

Energetic vibe, but allow for some delays in service. That isn't necessarily a problem, though, because most probably go there to have a good time and not to grab a quick bite. Good bar-type food, with some more upscale dishes.

  • Fun evening - but a little slow

Our group of 7 had a fun night out at Nick's. It's located along the Potomac within sight of the Kennedy Center and walking to and from it is part of the enjoyment. The staff was friendly, but because it was so busy, it took a very long time for our table to be greeted, provided with water, and drinks. The time between ordering food and its delivery was OK, though. The food was what you'd expect from a sports bar as was the general level of excitement and buzz. At the end of the evening, our bill was about as high as a couple of more upscale restaurants our group visited the two previous nights, so watch the appetizers and other extras as they can elevate the bill (which is of course true at any restaurant).

Chose this restaurant for the location and price. The food was good, I had the pecan crusted chicken and my wife had the swordfish. Portion size was just right. Drinks were a bit pricey. Outdoor seating is first come and it was packed. Inside did not get too crowded until circa 9pm. I would return again.

My parents were visiting from PA and stayed on the waterfront. My husband and I had been before on a lunch date, and really enjoyed it. We brought our kids and parents but we were seated near the bar, an intoxicated man (at 7pm) is cursing and yelling about the next bar, some sort of fire alarm was going off during our entire dinner, our waiter Archie was not interested in serving us, we had to send back our plates because we specifically ordered mashed potatoes and not fries, but received fries. And he came to our table with a small birthday dessert, which we thought he had brought for our son since we mentioned his birthday, but it was for another patron. Not exceptional service, it wasn't unbearable but we aren't coming back.

Good family dinner on a Sunday night. Had live music inside, which was nice, not too loud and played American favorites. Service we good, but could have been checked up more often, especially considering it was not crowded. Food served very quickly. Tried to arrange for a birthday cake/candles, but communication between server & kitchen was botched. Tip was added to bill for our party of 6 (18%). Didn't like that, and it cost the waitress a few $. Would return.

We had the worst service that we had ever experienced, EVER! We went early (around 5:00 pm) and it was not busy. It looked like our server only had our table and maybe one other, but he still took 20 minutes to get our drinks. After 15 minutes he walks towards us and I saw him with no drinks in hand, and he quickly turns around to retrieve them. He was not friendly, did not check to see how we were doing, if we needed refills, and he did not ask us how our food was. The food was good, but overpriced for what you get. Go somewhere else. I can't imagine how terrible the service would be if they were actually busy. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!

Food was excellent and the atmosphere was enjoyable. Liked that it was a classy restaurant but you could still view TVs/sports games/etc. We sat inside but the large windows next to us opened up to the boardwalk which enahanced the experience as well. Overall, thought it was a great spot!

We were going to the Kennedy Center to see the Lion King and it was my birthday so I thought it would be a nice place to try. As it turns out, it's really just a bar type place for happy hour, catch a game, etc; not a prelude to the Kennedy Center. If I were to go back it would be for a burger and fries or wings and beer.

The only thing this restaurant has going for it is the location. We went there for a special birthday meal for our son and were very disappointed. The service was poor and the food was mediocre. No one came to ask if we wanted more wine, refill our water glasses etc. No manager stopped by to ask us how things were. When we finished, no one came to take plates away. It is an incredible location with a beautiful view of the water but if you're going to spend that kind of money, go somewhere where you feel taken care of.

I wasn't expecting first class dining at Nick's but even then it turned out to be one of the more disappointing dining experiences I had in a long time. The food was okay. The problem was service and not just from the waitress. The waitress wanted to argue with me that I was mistaken when drinks and food were the wrong orders, but when I insisted she check she finally admitted they were incorrect. She kept telling us it was a busy night and the orders were getting messed up, implying that we should just accept the dishes as served even if wrong. More errors like this through the evening. I expect to get what I order, but at Nick's that's just an option.

Very busy Saturday night. 4 of us went for dinner. Got a table inside which was OK but all the 'action' was in the bar as, it seemed, was the attention of the waiter. Took a long time to get drinks and food. The food menu is simple, ostensibly to allow quick service- not this night. Waiter came back 30 minutes after taking our order to say they ran out of one of our dishes. Then he came back 15 min later to say the second selection was not available. We were all in a good mood so laughed it off, but not something you want to repeat. May be inevitable on such a busy night.

Brought the wrong bottle of wine, shattered all 4 glasses into our table covering myself and daughter's laps. She had bare legs and was still picking out tiny pieces of glass 4 days later. He brought the correct bottle of wine but 2 glasses. Everything I ordered off the one page menu he gave us was not available, including shrimp? He also made me choose a different entre after placing our orders, but then brought the original fish and chips I had ordered in between the apps and entre and charged me for both. The manager did come out personally to tell me that they were out of the dessert we ordered and that the waiter was new and they gave him the wrong menu to give to us. He did not comp us anything? I spent $350 and will never return

Our server Ricky was very accommodating and the staff (including bussers and hosts) was generally pleasant and helpful. There was an unsightly flood wall up, but that's not really the restaurant's fault. All of our food and drinks came out on time and we had a good experience. Nothing particularly fantastic but nothing bad either. We'll definitely be back in the summer!

Worth checking out for the view. I got the burger and a friend got the steak salad - as stated in the title of this review, the food is very average. Because of the location, it is also somewhat overpriced. However, we wanted a waterfront view and it was quite lovely in that respect!

we came here for Easter Brunch. We had booked a table inside for brunch (it was not possible to book outside, because outside the policy is "first come, first served"). The weather was good enough to sit outside, and, really, the charm of this place is the view on the river (Potomac). Inside, we had been given a table in a spot without view, near the bar. Our dilemma: sit outside, and accept that they cant give us the special Easter Brunch menu, or sit inside with the special Brunch and no view? The host (inside) was flexible enough to re-assign us a table inside WITH a view. Ende gut, alles gut! The food was good, the view very nice, and the prices reasonable (23 USD p person for a 2 course brunch with coffee and mimosa).

My husband and I wanted to have a nice lunch at the harbor and decided to go here. My husband ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with a side of fries and I ordered the shrimp po boy. The kitchen messed up his order and gave us a crabcake sandwich instead which was pretty good and the waiter took it off our bill! The wait for our food was pretty long and we even thought they forgot our order but the waiter reassured us that was not the problem at all...they were just super busy. We also ordered the fire cracker calamari which was amazing! Only thing is that there were 3 tiny shrimp pieces on my sandwich and I felt kind of robbed, otherwise our meal was really good.

I took my 89-year-old mother. She loves seafood and likes a water view, but doesn't paricularly want to be outside. I asked for an inside room with a water view and, despite being crowded, we were accommodated. My mother loved watching the boats come and go, the people strolling the waterfront and the overall view. And the crabcakes were wonderful. The waitress was attentive without hovering. It was a delightful evening.

Once seated, we waited 15 + minutes before a server came to our table. Another 10 mins went by before we received our drinks. The appetizer and salad came AFTER the entres. I asked to speak to the manager who first offered to buy us a desert (aprox $5 value). I had to ask him to remove the appetizer and salad from the bill. As a former restaurant manager, the guest should not have had to ask for the items to be removed. The manager should have apologized and offered to remove the items immediately in light of the meal sequence and possibly offered the desert to make up for the slow service. After the adjustments were made, we waited another 10 mins to close our check. The only positive attribute is the view of Rosslyn over the Potomac.

We were a group of 6 out-of-towners looking for a place to eat in G-Town. Nicks was a good find. The setting is attractive, on the Potomac, even on a chilly early-spring evening. The ambience is riverside bar--frenetic, crowded. But reservation was easy, table was ready when we arrived early. Wait-staff was attentive. Food was typical bar-food: burgers, fish & chips, nachos, etc. Quality was good but not spectacular. Fish and chips were under-seasoned. Salmon nicoise was flavorful. Drinks were plentiful. A good place to go in G-Town in an attractive setting.
