Diner Reviews
  • "We had the most amazing experience ever!! We are foodies from Laguna beach, CA and thought this was the best meal we have ever had! Awesome!! Our waiter, Tim, was the best!! Knowledgeable and fun! Also was so thrilled to meet 'Mama" and her family dining beside us!!"

  • "This is the second time we have been to NIck's for our anniversary. This year's experience was even better than last. From the location, to the greeting at the desk, service and food, everything was superb. While a bit pricier than some places on Maui, it certainly is justified in the prices. I love NIck's and will be back on January 2, 2015!"

  • "We ate at Nick's Fishmarket on a Sunday evening... with our four year old. While this restaurant is great for a romantic evening, the staff was equally accommodating to families with children. Our dinner was fantastic- poi pounder, local tomato salad with a gorgonzola/walnut pate, then my husband and I both had the lobster for dinner. The menu could be a little more inventive, but our experience was fantastic. Our serving team took care of our every need. But be warned, this is expensive. $275 (pre-tip) for the above items along with a bottle of wine, 2 cocktails, and a child's pasta dinner. We would definitely go again when visiting Maui."

  • "We eat here every time we come to maui. This experience was good but I have had much better in the past. The wine list although vast was not understood or supported by the waitstaff. The food was rather less exciting than advertised. I will have to think about whether or not it is worth returning next time."

  • "We have been to Maui several times in the last few years, yet we had never been to Nick's. We decided to give it a try and were very pleased. We were seated immediately, service was prompt, the food was very good, the portions were quite large. We had a few appetizers and shared one entree. They divided the entree for us and it was exactly the right amount of food. Although this is a pricey restaurant, we will be eating her again and would recommend it to anyone."

  • "One of the very best meals we had on Maui - for that matter anywhere in the US! The service was superb - the fish as fresh as could be - the kitchen willing to adjust a preparation to accommodate food allergies/dislikes. We look forward to returning on our next trip."

  • "I have lived on this island for 14 years now and every so often I and my family or guests come here for special occasions. This wonderful restaurant never fails. They've been putting together splendid, top-notch service and artfully-prepared fine cuisine since day one and they have it down to the point that it is a flawless dining experience every single time we've come here. A bit pricey (as are all the better restaurants in this tourist community) and they don't offer kama'aina rates for local residents, but for those special occasions in life, Nick's is a consistently dependable "keeper!""

  • "Food was good but the high prices and pushy wait staff was disappointing. Also don't believe the advertising that indicates a great view of the ocean. Most of the view is blocked by cabanas and there really aren't many seats with a view at all. We booked early (days in advance to get a nice view) and they sat us right next to the bar where all we could hear was the sound of the constant blender. Overall not worth the high price."

  • "Great place for dinner. Good food, although we had to send two bottles of expensive white wine back due to cork issues....beautiful setting, and waiters were nice to close some track doors due to weather issues. Provided table clothes for cold guests during the evening."

  • "We had researched where the best place in Wailea would be to have a special birthday dinner for my wife while we were here on vacation. We had heard and read that Nicks had great food and even better service, we heard wrong. The food lived up to expectations, the service was something you could get at Applebee's (on a bad day). We were very disappointed and would never go back or recommend Nicks."

  • "Open table reservations are not treated equally with hotel guests. We were seated directly at the door and other walk in guests received betters seating. Excellent food made up for it."

  • "Had the fish of the day and it was wonderful. My wife also enjoyed her meal. Outside sitting when weather permits is recommended. Very good fine list. Price is from reasonable to over the top"

  • "You can't go wrong with this place. Great food and very attentive service. A little pricy but to be expected when you go first class."

  • "Restaurant was reasonably busy but our server took a long time to bring menus, then deliver drinks. Sloppy service overall and certainly not up to the standards in a Fairmont Hotel. Once it arrived, food was good. Not looking to return there any time soon, plenty of other choices."

  • "We chose 2 items on the menu that are expensive. I had the aballone and my wife had the spiney lobster. Very good although the aballone portions are now smaller. My wife talked of going back a second time this trip, as she enjoyed the lobster that much."

  • "The service is simply impeccable! You can find no better. My husband and I were there for dinner. The food is very good - I ordered the opakapaka and absolutely loved it! My husband had another fish dish , Opah, which he enjoyed. Our appetizer, Seafood sausage, was only okay, but we both enjoyed the presentation of our spectacular Strawberries Panzini dessert. It was definitely the wow factor of our meal. The ambience of the place is romantic, and we enjoyed the conch-blowing and the lighting of the torches when the sun was setting. Overall, an exquisite meal."

  • "Food was decent--not the best we had in Maui but not the worst. However, the service was definitely the worst we had during our trip. We were informed from the beginning that there would be a "team" of servers helping us. However, this "team" was inattentive and seemed largely uninterested in waiting on us. Furthermore, they were inefficient. Four different people asked us if we wanted dessert and none of them knew no one had taken out dinner order. Wouldn't go back."

  • "My wife and I found the restaurant was one of the classiest, romantic and friendly restaurants we had ever dined at. The service was attentive, helpful and knowledgeable. We enjoyed a leisurely romantic dinner and the meal was superb from entree to dessert. A real gem that everyone should add to their wish list. Would highly recommend."

  • "Our food was served cool, the table at the front door was poor (traffic, noise, etc.), and the service was somewhat condescending. Our last trip to Nick's which we have enjoyed in the past."

  • "This was to be our major dining experience in Maui-ended up our worst. Seated at the worst table in the house, my bad for not saying anything. Nice assortment of aperitifs, opted for Pommery Apanage, but the wine list was not as notable as advertised; ended up w/ white burgundy. Re: the menu - a raw bar does not a Fishmarket make. Not much local fish, so we had the Opakapaka, nice lemon caper sauce, but not enough of it. Once the entree was served, NO ONE checked on us. When done eating, we commented about the service. Cpt Andrew "endeavored" to make it right, but he blammed the person who seated us -not the server of the aperitifs, not Andrew himself who took both our food and wine order. Team service concept left much to be desired."

  • "Nice ambience, great open space. The place was very enjoyable We ordered a few appetizers, which were oysters, shrimp cocktail and shrimp scampi. We could have done without the 2 shrimp dishes. They weren't memorable. Oysters were fine, interesting with the ahi tuna tartare twist. The main course - oh my god. So delicious. I ordered the scallop with braised pork belly. Every bite was heavenly! My husband had the steak & potato - simple but very nicely done. Good job there!"

  • "From the moment we sat down we were made to feel at home, feel special and welcome and attended to. The service team was outstanding and friendly. It was a perfect evening to eat outside. The food was excellent. Only two small things. Wines by the glass menu was pretty limited. Also, a pet peeve. I ordered a Manhattan cocktail. It had been shaken and was therefore icy, rather than stirred. Only cocktails with fruit juices should be shaken. Overall, this was our favorite dinner this week. Hats off to the manager and service team for making it special."

  • "Bad table - booked weeks in advance and they offered us the two worst tables they had. Outdoor was already full at 6:30pm We waited and finally gave up and ate in the bar. The wait time in-between seeing a waiter was endless - the service is very ragged here. While waiting for our entrees, the waiter said they were finishing the chicken and it would be out shortly - the chicken was so over cooked it was like eating sawdust. My husband's steak was only marginally better. Shrimp cocktail was three shrimp -they were ok but we would have liked 4 at least so we could each have two - just not a good value for over $300. Still trying to find better restaurants on Maui."

  • "You can always count on Nicks for a fabulous meal and outstanding atmosphere. Appetizers are terrific. While I like them all the Calamari and the Maui Wowie Greek salad are my favorites. The rack of lamb, Opakapaka, Filet Mignon and Ahi Tuna Entres are as good as it gets. Absolutely terrific. The wine list is very extensive and shown on iPad. Getting someone to come over and take your wine order is a different story. Flaming strawberries for desert is a must share. Atmosphere is beautiful and warm feeling. Service is fair mainly because you rarely see your server and regular empty water glasses are a no no for my taste when fine dining. Cheers!"

  • "Went to celebrate Valentine's Day with my sister and her husband. Food and service was great. Our reservation was made 4 weeks earlier, requesting an outside table. On our arrival we were given a table in a high traffic area, quite a distance from a patio view which was disappointing."

  • "We've been to Nicks in recent years. It was always a little bit stuffy but good food. This time we had THREE servers, one was a bit arrogant, the second server was nice, but he would swoop in to take a plate or whatever, The water person was the rudest ! My husband tried to be helpful by passing the glass to him for refill, & the man took the glass from my husband without a word, set it down on the table where it was suppose to be filled it & left. Servers would rearrange glassware, silver etc. felt we were scolded. Too much Hovering. Uncomfortable , but laughed it off. The server that did bring our food, was nice & joked . All said, we won't be back. For the price I expect nicer service. Food was good, not great."

  • "Based upon online reviews, my husband and I decided to try Nick's. We started with the tomato salad and pork potstickers. The tomatoes were paired with blue cheese and strawberries with a strawberry vinegarette. The combination but didn't quite work. The pork in the potstickers was very dry and we didn't care for the accompanying sauce. For entrees, we ordered the opah and the opakapaka. The opah had a fishy taste to it. The opakapaka was slightly dry and needed the lemon caper sauce. We ordered the apple pie and vanilla ice cream for dessert. While the ice cream was delicious, the apple pie was of the same quality of a grocery store pie. We were very disappointed in the food quality and would not recommend this restaurant."
