We took our Dad here for a (3 hour!) birthday lunch on a Saturday. We got a table outside, no problem, which accommodated our having a dog with us, as well. The weather was a gorgeous 80 degrees and the sun sparkled on the water. The valet parking is complimentary and we got served quickly. We ordered raw and bbq'd oysters, coddled eggs with lobster, fish and chips with truffle garlic fries, grilled cheese and tomato soup, plus dessert. We put everything in the middle of the table and shared it. The fig ice cream and passion fruit mousse were especially delicious, such intense flavors and refreshing. The oysters were YUM! So fresh and sweet. We ended the day at Dillon Beach with a nap, a walk and a sunset viewing. PERFECT!

This is our second time at Nick's and on a recent trip to Sonoma we made a special point to travel their again. The setting, restaurant, service, and food quality fits my definition of a great California (anywhere really) eating establishment. The food is excellent: locally sourced (oysters, fish, poultry, wine, veggies/salads) and prepared to showcase their very best qualities. Even though we were from out of town, they made us feel welcomed and special. There was live music, which was a nice touch - very pleasant and we were still able to have dinner conversation. We will be back.

This was a wonderful find on our recent day trip to the Tomales Bay area. It was perfect in every way including the weather. There is a great view from almost every table. We were lucky to sit by the window but there is deck dining as well. The food was fabulous - a little on the pricey side but well worth it. Service was perfect. We will definitely make this a stop on any trip to this area. We loved it!

Beautiful location on Tomales Bay but not much to see at night. The service was very good, and the food was delicious, but pricey for the casual atmosphere, small oysters, and the amount of food that you get. One patron in our group received the entree with one-third of the clam shells empty. Good overall dining experience but our high expectations were not met.

Great food, great server. Kitchen was really slow and there was a busboy who was repeatedly way to anxious to clear our table. Taking our bread plate still having buttered bread on it and our butter knife without asking. What's the rush!!! We waited an unacceptably long time for our entrees.

Here we are for our Wedding Anniversary, and they couldn’t have been nicer. It was quite, and the food was delicious! We started with drinks at the bar. I had a French Lavender, which I HIGHLY recommend. Careful though, they go down really easy. We shared the crab cakes which were very good, but mostly just a taste by the size of them. Nothing on the Dinner menu really spoke to me though, so I ended up having the BBQ Bacon Oysters, and a bowl of Clam Chowder. They complimented each other very nicely, and I couldn’t have been happier with my decision. My husband had the Flat Iron Steak, and he said it was delicious, yet indescribable. We hope to come back more often! MAKE A RESERVATION THOUGH!!!

We love going to Nick's Cove, more for the beauty of its location on Tomales Bay than the food, although that's by no means bad with a not-surprising emphasis on seafood and oysters. Not to be missed--the walk along the Pier to the Boat Shack, with its log-fire burning. (You can order drinks and food from there by phone if you like.)

Each birthday I pick a restaurant I want to experience and plan a vacation around it. Being from Napa, Tomales was more of a staycation, but Nicks Cove did not disappoint. We did the tasting menu and every dish was an unexpected flavor combination that went incredibly well together, but the chicken fried veal cheeks are something I will be dreaming about...

We had a wonderful lunch on a beautiful day on Tomales Bay. It was an uncrowded weekday and the atmosphere was relaxed and easy. It was "Wine Wednesday" meaning that bottles were half-priced. Aha moment ! We ordered beyond our usual beverage budget and enjoyed an amazing Sauvignon Blanc that complemented the meal beautifully. Lovely food... great atmosphere... we'll be back.

The Adirondack type chairs used in the "outside" room, are terribly uncomfortable. This is the second time I have dined there in the past few months, and I can assure you I won't make the mistake of sitting in one of those chairs again. Being that uncomfortable ruined the meal. My guest complained about it as well which is unfortunate since the food is actually good.

Horrible and discusting. Fly’s all over the place. Server couldn’t keep his hands off his face throughout our stay. Food was not good at all. The BLT was not good at all and should not be called a BLT in our opinion. The fish and chips were too greasy. Too bad. Did we come here on an off day? One good note was that the clam chowder was good. I tried to get the owners name so I could contact that person and let them know of our very bad visit, but the hostess wouldn’t give a contact name only thing she would say was “private investor”. Well, “private investor” you should go eat at your restaurant and you will see that your investment is going to the gutter. Its a shame to let this place go bad. You have some work to do.

Great atmosphere, great food, great service. The oysters, crab cakes and heirloom tomato salad were sublime. The strawberry pie was incredible. Kate was our server and she was knowledgeable, charming and altogether impeccable in her service. The view from the dining room and deck is breathtaking. Be sure to spend some time in the boat shack at the end of the dock. On a cool night you can enjoy the wood burning stove while sipping some wine. Quite romantic! Nick's is a long way from home for me but I will definitely be back.

In planning a West Coast adventure, which included a notable day trip on Route 1 between Sausalito and Wine Country, we realized we needed to find a place along the route to have dinner (an anniversary dinner to be exact). A couple of Google searches later yielded Nick's Cove and the fact that it is located in Marshall on Tomales Bay, California's Oyster capital (we're Oyster lovers), was a real plus. So I made the reservation on OpenTable and we both excitedly looked forward to this part of the trip. Well, Nick's Cove did not disappoint! The restaurant was warm, rustic and romantic. Our server was very friendly and provided great service. The food was very good, the drinks were great and the view was perfect! We'll be back!

A friend who knows my palate well insisted that I check out Nick's Cove while I was staying in Inverness and it completely blew me away. The food was top notch, fresh and the service was really friendly and accommodating. We were a big group with three kids and everyone was so nice to us. The sommelier suggestions were always spot on. He recommended a Pinot by Radio Coteau which was superb. After dinner you have to walk to the end of the pier and check out the cool little shack with a fireplace and an old piano. Our night was absolutely magical.

My wife and I have been to Nick's Cove on a number of occasions, typically after a long morning kayak paddle on Tomales Bay, as was the case on this visit. The crab cakes and oysters are always in order, and we have sampled a number of other menu items. It is a lively, scenic venue. This time we met friends who motorcycled in from Santa Rosa, their first time at Nick's, and they loved it.

Too bad! Nick's Cove was once a great find -- but it's been upscaled to the point of unbearable. The food is "mediocre with attitude." The famed Mac and Cheese cost $17 for a small bowl of creamy pasta with a few shreds of crab. The oysters were very fresh... they SHOULD be, since they are sourced from 5 miles away -- but served with mignonette so harsh that it was inedible. The grilled romaine salad tasted charred, the short rib sugo was salty, and ... we had something else but it was so unmemorable that I can't remember. That plus two drinks and we dropped $80 a person. The owners are raking it in, and clearly don't care. Which is a shame.

We were disappointed with our lunch, simply because the food (fish and chips, crab Benedict) didn't live up to expectations. Not enough crab, not enough Hollandaise sauce, and fish that didn't rise above average pub quality. We were surprised that people describe Nick's Cove as a real destination restaurant. The tide was out (in the Cove) and metaphorically in the restaurant as well.

With sun glistening on the water a few feet away, my lady and I indulged ourselves with Miyagi oysters, red curry mussels & crab mac 'n' cheese. A couple of martinis washed it all down, then we took a romantic stroll down the old fishing dock. Next, hopefully, we'll get to rent one of their cottages. Beautiful location & delicious food!

Nicks could be a true gem of a place. The food was very good. However, the decor is low class. Invest in some new tables, or cover the ones you have with table clothes or paper. Put candles or local flowers on the tables. Invest in new chairs, the ones you have are extremely uncomfortable. The lake type chairs might work for out on the dock, but not in the restaurant. Its okay to keep the waterfront decor, but make it classy. Take a hint from Stellina, you can have good food, and a smart dining room and fill-up nightly. And for goodness sake, get rid of the flies! They almost ruined our dinner due to the amount of time we had to spend trying to keep them off our food.
