Diner Reviews
  • "This was my first time to Nicks and made reservations for a group of 8. We were seated immediately and had a great table. Noticed a large wedding party in another room so the place was packed. The menu was slightly disappointing because I was looking forward to a shell fish dish of some kind. Don't know if the menu was limited because of the wedding, but settled for a halibut dish. It was good, but nothing to rave about. One member of my party can't eat fish, so he had the lamb chops and left the restaurant hungry. The service was extremely slow because of the wedding, so was able to pass the time talking to my friends about our weekend horse adventures. I will give NIcks another visit and hope to finally have that shell fish dish."

  • "Best oysters moray We have ever eaten. The crab Louie was perfect. It is not on the menu, so you must ask for it in dungenous season. Kind wait staff and wonderful views."

  • "My spouse and I look to Nick's Cove whenever we want to take friends out for a quintessential California coastal dining experience. The service is knowledgeable and friendly, and the food is always fresh and delicious. We prefer to dine in the room adjacent to the main dining area, because it's has a cooler vibe with tranquil breezes though the wooden screen doors that bespeak a forgotten era. After lunch, make certain to take a glass of wine or a cocktail with you and head on out across the dock that jets out from the restaurant to where stands a "little love shack" out on the water. Heaven."

  • "For the small plates the server did not point out that the garlic fries would satisfy 4, while the salads were small and not enough for sharing. Also the server forgot to bring the box of fries to take home. The valet was great - had my car as I walked out the door."

  • "had a fabulous time at Nick's. great service and food - only blemish was when one busboy interrupted our conversation with a loud"Are you through here?" to the whole table..."

  • "We enjoyed the beautiful sunny day with a lovely view. I was very disappointed in the crab cakes - they were the size of a 50 cent piece 2 total! and were loaded with bread crumbs. For the price it was a total rip off. The crab eggs benedict on the other hand were sensational and worth the price. Service is good. Definitely worth the drive for oysters and ambience."

  • "Mother's day, Valentine's day, Just a special day - It's warm, efficient, friendly. And the food is creative, beautiful and tasty. Wait staff is attentive but not intrusive. The back room is my favorite."

  • "Beautifully situated overlooking the Tomales Bay. The menu changes daily depending on today's catch and harvest."

  • "It was rainy day and we had planned on hiking but ending up at Nick's eating oysters, Clam chowder and drinking bloody mary's. Great way to have an afternoon snack on the coast with a view of the rainy bay."

  • "Crabs Benedict and oysters baked with bacon flavor were just heavenly. and the vegetable sides were grilled to perfection. best tasting bloody mary! great scenic drive to get to this hidden gem! just wonderful."

  • "Recommend with reservations. Have been eating here for a long time but food not up to previous standards. Halibut was dull and root veggies with it seemed inappropriate. Pork chop with lentils was fine but overwhelming in size. Both dishes were priced high. Almost all entrees are $27-$30 which is high for a place on the coast. This is a reminder to pick from among the starters and small dishes. The lemon tart was stale with a crust like cardboard. Quiet evening and service was excellent but food just not up to snuff. The menu needs a few more casual options especially if it wants to attract the locals. What happened to the hamburger??"

  • "Well worth the detour-the macaroni and cheese with fresh crab is perfect for sharing and the 1/2 off bottles of all wines on Wednesday is more reason to go mid-week. Excellent service for a roadside place and the view of the bay is superb! This was quite a find and way above expectations."

  • "My husband and I went to Nick's Cove on a Saturday for dinner. The view and sunset was spectacular! We had 3 different raw oysters and Oysters Mornay. I had the salmon (cooked perfectly) and he had the quail. For dessert we split the panna cotta. We can't wait to go back!"

  • "I went to this place when I was a kid and it was sort of a bar with a food menu. Now it's all gussied but still trying to preserve some of the same atmosphere. It sits right on Tomales Bay with fantastic views. The food is good, ingredients fresh, and everything is a lite overpriced. But it's worth it. We had lunch. I don't know about dinner."

  • "We LOVED Nick's when we first started coming a few years ago & had stellar food & experiences. It's only slightly changed downward in very specific areas & relates to things my partner experienced. I can't pass up the outstanding Crab Louie & it remains awesome. The price however, did not. I found it very reasonable at $18 for lunch & a bit much at $24 with no change in portion or ingredients. We tend to arrive between typical lunch/dinner hours & have been able to order off any menu...not so any more & that's our biggest disappointment as my partner LOVES their good selection of fish Entrees. He had Fish & Chips & was highly disappointed in the Cod & its' quality. He may not want to make the long drive for some time. I still do!"

  • "We had a wonderful dinner on Friday, March 7, 2014: Baked Oyster Mornay, Tomales Bay Clam Chower, Salmon and the Beef followed by Meyer Lemon Tarts and Late Harvest Muscat.. We were spending the weekend at The AppleGarden Cottage and Nick's was on their list of recommended restaurants. Gorgeous view of the bay, Wait Staff was friendly and very knowledgeable. We will definitely be back. Mike and Sheri Fager"

  • "I enjoyed the sunset views, and the tranquility of the Tomales Bay from the restaurant. But this wasn't the pinnacle of the evening. It was the food and service that made this place shine. The food was fresh and delightful. Excellently prepared. The Dungeness Mac and Cheese was my favorite. I would recommend this place to friends and family, and will be returning myself."

  • "My wife and I went to Nicks for her birthday dinner. We had been before, and loved it. Great food, seated right away, good service and nice folks. View can be great if the fog is not in, but the ambience and warmth of the restaurant is great."

  • "I have been to Nick's Cove before with a work event where I had the pleasure of spending the night and having a 3 hour meal (it was with work). I wanted to come back so I could just sit, relax and enjoy Nick's, so I booked a brunch. We arrived early and checked in and asked if we could go to the boat house until it was closer to our actual reservation time. They said yes, when we came back we had a great table ready by the window. We has a leasurely time sipping our cocktails and enjoying first an oyster platter, followed by Crab Benedicts and Crab Mac n Cheese. We were never rushed, we were left to enjoy our view and our meal. I was so happy that I booked a 2 night weekend to come back in April."

  • "From the outside, Nick's Cove, looks unremarkable and perhaps "too rustic." Appearances are deceiving. Inside is nice full bar, and a fireplace. The inside dining area is a pleasant mix of low-key casual and very romantic. The stunning views of Tomales Bay are unforgettable. And for those who like outdoor dining, Nick's has that to offer as well. The food is strictly seafood. So, if you have allergies, or don't like it--go elsewhere. However, if you like seafood, this is your place. The oyster selection is amazing. There are mussels and crab cakes and fish and..... You get the picture. I just loved it A+++++!"

  • "We love Nick's Cove for lunch as it has a great view and is right on the water. They have valet parking which is especially nice in their location right on the 2-lane highway. We started with Bloody Mary's which were great - quite spicy! I had the ham and cheese sandwich which was huge and I couldn't finish. My husband had the burger which was good too. Both meals came with fries and neither of us could finish them. The food was good but the overall ambiance of the restaurant is fun and relaxed. It isn't a large menu but there is quite a selection of oysters which many people around us were enjoying. It is a beautiful drive from any direction so getting there is part of the fun."

  • "I took my 16 year old daughter and her 6 friends out for her birthday and we had a great time. Wonderful service and fine oysters helped make the event a great time. We kept to starters and side orders and found ourselves very happy. The crab mac and cheese was especially successful with the girls."

  • "This isn't your everyday find. If you don't know about, "Nicks" that you missed the boat. Nick's is a little drive from Inverness but it's a beautiful drive if done early before sunset. Reservations are a must ! Bring something warm as it is set on the bay. Parking must be valet by State laws so drive up out front and let them park your car ! Do not park in dirt parking lot on same side you WILL get a ticket that can be $60.00. Be early to your reservation so you can have time before dinner/lunch/ brunch so you can hang for awhile ! Service was awesome. Our young blond waitress served as good and sharp like we were at a fine New York place eating ! Can't wait to go back !!"

  • "We've been coming to Nick's Cove since it opened about 7 years ago. There have been some ups and downs but I'm happy to say the last year it's been up! Great food, fun atmosphere and a spectacular setting all make Nick's a delightful place to enjoy an evening. And I have to mention Tavez, our favorite server. He is the perfect combination of friendly & professional. He knows the food and wine selections & is helpful when you're debating about the yummy choices. We love Nick's Cove!"

  • "We really enjoyed our dinner. We had a great waiter who was right on with his suggestions. We ended up sharing a lot of the share dishes and had a great experience. Many different tastes. Our waiter was well informed about the food and was genuinely concerned that we had a great experience. Honestly, one of the best waiters I have ever had."
