Diner Reviews
  • "This was a great choice for a restaurant before the knicks game. The food was great! I have a serious shellfish allergy, so the Chef came out to talk to me. That was impressive, for him to do that on a busy night! Ambiance was energetic and staff was polite. I definitely recommend it to anyone. The private entrance into Madison Square Garden from within the restaurant was the perfect ending to a great night!"

  • "I hadn't been to Nick & Stef's in a very long time, and it didn't disappoint. My friend & I were celebrating our birthdays and since she'd never been, I recommended it for our dinner. She was very impressed with the food & service, as was I. Everything was excellent. Would definitely go back."

  • "The most convenient, delicious restaurant in midtown. Came before a Ranger game and was blown away. The energy of the staff and general buzz of it being a game night was the draw for me. We were lucky in that we were able to get a table without a reservation (perfectly timed cancellation) so after enjoying amazing drinks with the friendly bartenders we switched to the dining room where we had our delicious apps, sides and entrees, with barely enough room for dessert. My ribeye was cooked to perfection and I have no words for everything else on the table. Just outstanding."

  • "Food and service was excellent. The calamari was exceptional along with the baked clams. You can't beat the tuna. Always prepared perfectly. Dan the chef is always friendly and comes out to say hello. Staff is great. I am a repeat customer."

  • "We have eaten at N&S several times in the past but it has been about 2 years and have no intention on going back. The food was was less then average, the steak tartare was unbearable and the cut of filet a poor choice by the chef. Maybe a bad night but too many issues with this dining experience for me to recommend it."

  • "Perfect spot at Madison Square Garden and Penn Station. Why settle for anything less than a stellar meal, great wines by the glass and polished service when heading to MSG? Pre-game this place is hectic, after the game it is much quieter. Either way, we have never been disappointed. The dry aged rib eye is a favorite, along with their tuna tartar app. The cocktails are always spot on and unlike many places their wine by the glass is actually served in great wine glasses so you really can enjoy their selections. None at our table felt the portions were small and compared to other top NY steakhouses the pricing is good."

  • "We ate at 5:00 p.m. and the place was dead and so was the service. Sorry but I expected someone to be on the floor for the 6 tables of business folks."

  • "I came in here on Sunday before the NCAA tournament, there were only a couple of other tables and just about every aspect of our meal was not up to par. My prime rib actually came out ice cold. For the price that they charge I expected the food to be much better than it was."

  • "Food was brilliant...host was very good. some rude waiters but main host was a joy"

  • "Nick and Stef's is very convenient if you are attending an event at MSG Steaks are good but not great I had halibut and the portion was very small when they are busy with a crowd going to the Garden they tend to hurry you"

  • "The Seafood special was great The Grilled Shrimp were also very good"

  • "Locate practically in MSG, I'm sure this place is buzzing pre game but right before game time, it quiets down and you can enjoy a good steak in a nice atmosphere. Our server was delightful and our meal was great. I have had better steaks, but I would go back."

  • "After Providence College won their game on Friday night my husband and I decided to take the train in to Penn station for Saturday nights game. It was all spur of the moment. We needed a good meal to fortify us for the BIG game and this was a perfect spot! It is right outside Madison Square Garden and there is great people watching spots near the window. Would love to come back.. Go P.C.!!"

  • "Food was very good and the service is excellent. It is pricy because the portions were quite small and I do like the feeling of leaving a restaurant still hungry. You need to add your address clearly on your outdoor sign or building. It was hard to find the exact location for a non NYC guy."

  • "Real convenient to get too considering it's just outside of Penn Station .. very pricey but that's to be expected in NYC. Food was delicious, great specialty drinks too. Would go again .. but need to save up for that! LOL!"

  • "Lunch was great. The Steak salad was so big and great. The Short Ribs were the best I have had. Everyone said the huge shrimp were very good"

  • "Waiter was hard to find and rude. I asked for a recommendation on a side and his reply was "how would I know you're eating it". He also let me order a baked potato and the steak came with fries. The steak was ok and way overpriced. Got to Tads instead"

  • "Nick & Stef's is our favorite place to go before or after anything at MSG. Never had anything but great food, friendly and professional service. The bar is a lot of fun before concerts or Ranger and Knick games, and there is an entrance from the restaurant that brings you right into a stairwell to the Garden. It's not cheap but it's a nice steakhouse and one of the better places to eat in area, IMO."

  • "Always a pleasurable experience there and good food. Bar is also great as the restaurant is an overall find. Recommend it if your near Penn Station and want a nice dining experience."

  • "The food at Nick $ Stef's was outstanding. Although this is a steakhouse, the prok chop was succulent and seasoned just right. The onion soup and cheese cake were also delicious. Great lunch with great people."

  • "But If you go on a game night be prepared for deafening noise and basic service."

  • "Steakhouses are plentiful and many pretentious. This one serves excellent food prepared very well and their service is wonderful. They were very accomodating with every request and our dinner was really fun and satisfying. Portions are generous for those who only look for that. Their service was excellent. Each dish (4appetizers and 4 dinners) and side was excellently prepared and served. We would return again and again."

  • "Located right underneath/next to Madison Square Garden, this is a restaurant that would be hugely popular to tourists and hungry locals who are going to catch an event at MSG. Don't know why, but interior looks like something from the 70's. There was a nice bar with various alcohol, and i loved how the ceilings slanted. Food was okay. It wasn't anything exceptional. Bread served pre-meal was cold like it just came out of the freezer and they microwaved it for 10 secs... I wouldn't recommend this place to my friends because of its location (unless I'm extremely famished), it's obviously a huge tourist trap, but since they were participating in RW, I wanted to try it out."

  • "Meal was amazing. Steak was cooked perfectly and timing of all courses was on point to ensure completion by game time without feeling rushed. Only negative is crowded seating environment."

  • "Food and service was great. Restaurant was too empty for a Friday night."

  • "We ordered from the Restaurant Week menu and the food was delicious. Sometimes during restaurant week, the portions are so minuscule that I stopped and got a slice on my way home (Aquavite, anyone?). Portions were generous here, food was fresh, and the wine by the glass was more than decent. My only complaint was with the service. Although the waiter was efficient and pleasant, once he heard us discussing the Academy Awards, he went on and on about which of the celebrities he knew. Once would have been charming, but to tell us a long story every time he came to the table was overbearing. Other than that, this place is a stand-out in a neighborhood that caters to fast food aficionados."

  • "Been there many times before an MSG event. The food is consistently good and the service is very good. The place is oftener packed tightly and noisy; however, you can hold a conversation with your table mates."

  • "Delicious onion soup with emantel and gruyere cheeses, steak salad with oyster mushrooms and wonderful vinaigrette and scrumptious ny cheesecake!! had only been before for dinners but this RR week deal is the best one I've tried in a long time!"

  • "Came with a large group for a business lunch and was very impressed on all counts. The food was great and the service was as well. The staff was very welcoming. Will be returning for dinner next week."

  • "Tried this restaurant for lunch during restaurant week and very pleased. Tucked away at the side of MSG it's easy to overlook which would be a pity for this area is not bulging wide good restaurants, The $25 prix fixe lunch during Restaurant week was exceptional value. There were a good range of choices and the French onion soup was fragrant and well balanced. The main course of short ribs could have benefitted from a longer braise time but the portion was ample and the taste excellent. The sauce was well reduced and I would have like more of it on my plate. The accompanying vegetables were well cooked and the plating was attractive without being fussy. Desserts were not up to the standard of the rest of the meal. worth a visit"
