Diner Reviews
  • "Had a great date night! Went on a Monday, which has a special reduced menu with more provincial fare. Thank you for that opportunity! Food quality was outstanding and with high skill of preparation. Taste combinations were well balanced and smartly arranged. Unfortunately, as with many other newer age restaurants, the portion size is inversely proportional to the prices. I left with a very satisfied palate, but still was a little bit hungry......"

  • "We had a great time. Jordan, our server, was friendly, fun, knowledgable and very helpful. The Monday menu was great. Ribeye La Plancha.....wow!! An excellent dinner and a fun night."

  • "We had a very enjoyable anniversary dinner at Niche. The four-course menu was interesting, a great combination of taste and textures, and just the right amount of food. Our server was very knowledgeable, friendly and provided helpful recommendations. With high ceilings and hard surfaces, it is loud so it has an energetic but not necessarily romantic ambience, IMHO. We would recommend it to foodie friends."

  • "The restaurant was a very enjoyable place, and the décor was nice. Service was excellent. My palate is just not refined enough to appreciate the food that was offered."

  • "This dining experience finds you at the mercy of the chef. For the uninitiated like myself, the menu does not have items I would ordinarily order, however given that it is prix fixe, the choice is already made for you. Thus the chef forces you to experience something "new" and the experience is wonderful. Every bite is a novelty. Spices are faint but felt. The quality of ingredients is incredibly high. Yes it costs a lot, but worth it in my view."

  • "This is just an amazing restaurant! It is pricey, but if you have the money to spend, just the best, most interesting place in St. Louis! The egg benedict is addicting. Each of the first course choices was great. The zucchini soup was so unusual with a hint of mint. Peas were wonderful, as were carrots. Pork belly and quail were so tasty. Had the steak as the 3rd course and done perfectly. Cool space, but very noisy. Tables are close, which was fun on Saturday as we got acquainted with the couple next to us and shared some of our food choices. If you haven't already gone, go!"

  • "This was the best food I've ever had. Our server was also great and very knowledgeable about the menu. Would love to come back again."

  • "This was our first visit to Niche since it moved to Clayton. We were relieved to see that little had changed from the fantastic, all around experience that a dinner here entails--including the innovative cocktails (even sans Ted Kilgore). We would have given the entire experience a full 5 starts, but a few of the wine pairings were ever so slightly off the mark with the courses, which made this particular visit a 4 1/2 star (still marvelous)."

  • "This is a place for outstanding and creative food experience - the "Pork Belly" just melt in your mouth and taste is outstanding- The "Baetje Farms Cheese" dessert was another highlight, as well as the "Berger Bluff Carrots" as a starter: You just have to try all the different food, cause they are all unique. There is not a long menu list to choose from, but what you get to choose from is very good quality and innovative food. When ever we are in St. Louis we just have to go to Niche for dinner!! very highly recommended if you what something different."

  • "From start to finish, everything that came out of the kitchen was outstanding! We picked our own dishes from the four-course menu and had the staff pair wine with each. Snap peas had great flavor combinations and the carrots with burnt ends and crunchy quinoa was excellent. Whitefish was a standout. Although inventive, the quail ball could be skipped. The kitchen team pushes the envelope on what you think might be standard items. Ask your server to explain the dishes because they could be off the wall--in a good way. We are from Chicago and Niche could without question easily be part of our restaurant scene."

  • "Once again it was a memorable night at Niche! The food is always super and no detail was overlooked. Jen did a wonderful job of taking care of us. We never had to worry about an empty glass. Chef Nate was very ambitious so that we never had a wait on the next course. Food, service, wine, and everything was excellent!!!"

  • "So creative and delicious and so joyfully and elegantly presented. I think we tried 21 items, each one more interesting and beautiful than the last. The portions were perfect for our table of three. It's hard to describe in words the subtleties we were tasting. The presentation and staff were about the best I've encountered."

  • "The positives: Flavors were wonderful. Presentation an A+. The not so positives: The portions were definitely not sufficient, unless perhaps you indulge in the prix fixed menu of four dishes. I was the only one in my party of three who did not order four courses. Two of us ordered the pork belly and one serving was pure fat. Overall it was too expensive."

  • "Service was great, portion size was just right. Creative and colorful plates with complex flavor and texture combinations. The vegetarian options were great - the hen of the woods is outstanding and definitely worth a try. Loved Dia's Cheese Bread and the fact that it is gluten-free was a delightful surprise. The restaurant featured an open kitchen where skilled staff churned out dish after delicious dish in a coordinated, highly disciplined elegant manner - a pleasure to watch. Kudos to Chef Kraft! Definitely an experience I would like to repeat. The understated candle accompanying my dessert plate was a nice touch recognizing this was my birthday celebration."

  • "Niche continues to be one of the very finest restaurants in greater St. Louis. The chef has not lost an ounce of creativity; every new dish remains an exciting adventure of unexpected flavor and texture combinations. The visually stunning presentation of the dishes, the brilliant flavor explosions, and the thrill of tasting entirely new things combines for a magnificent night of dining. The service is extremely knowledgeable about the dishes and very friendly. You feel like you are in your favorite neighborhood bistro; there is no pretension at all. The wine list is relatively small, but stacked with unusual choices that make wine selection a treat. For any person who loves fine dining, a stop a Niche is a must."

  • "Had a great dinner at niche last night! Food was wonderful. If I had one critical comment, it's that our waiter was quite rude to one of the busboys, bossing him around quite a bit. Detracted from an other wise lovely evening."

  • "Niche is an incredible restaurant. Starting with the tremendous talent in the kitchen, Gerard Craft's staff makes creative and delicious dishes which can rival the best restaurants in food capitals like New York, Chicago and LA. Add Matt McGuire as the restaurant manager and the service is flawless yet unobtrusive. "

  • "My wife and I enjoyed our first visit to Niche on our 11th wedding anniversary very much. Earlier in the day I received a call prepping us for our reservation. I told them about our anniversary. Within 30 seconds of being seated at the restaurant, they brought us champagne and congratulated us. We both ordered the Tasting Menu and enjoyed it all. The Wine Pairing was very good as well. The Tasting Menus forced us (non-foodies) to experience a lot of dishes we wouldn't normally order. We also enjoyed being able to see into the kitchen. The staff was very friendly, attentive and professional. The meal was very pricey, but worth it for a special occasion. We will go back again for future special dinners."

  • "OK, it is rare that you find such a unique, fabulous restaurant. For us, it was a modern day challenge, our 36th wedding anniversary which we needed to couple with a business discussion (with visitors from Europe) arriving 90 minutes later -- imagine that challenge for the Chef and staff. Yet the Niche team accepted the challenge, and provided us one of the most wonderful dining experience of our lives. We turned ourselves over to the staff, selecting the multi-course extravaganza, coupled with a wine paring, which the chef started for us, then seamlessly added our 3 European visitors to 90 minutes later -- all appearing to be one seamless event. The food, world class, the staff and chef the same. Reserve here soon & often, as I will."

  • "Wonderful inventive and delicious food. Amazing bread baked on site and brought to near perfection, subtle rich and deep flavors in most of the dishes we tried. Very memorable meal. The food does take center stage and was the main topic of our conversation during dinner. Going for a mixed drink (very well executed balanced and unusual flavors) and a plate of trout beignets at the elegant bar an affordable way to experience this food Mecca. Congratulations!"

  • "I wanted a special evening to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday, and it lived up to the reputation! We did the Chef's tasting, and it was amazing!!! We loved every dish, and our server was so knowledgeable, and timed the service impeccably. It was a bit loud, but not distracting- fun atmosphere! Glad we splurged, as it created a great memorable moment.....awesome!"

  • "We had dinner on Saturday, May 3, 2014. The service was impeccable. We enjoyed the chef's tasting menu. It was truly outstanding. We were provided with eight (8) courses better described as tastings which really came out to be nine (9) with a second dessert. The EGG course was to die for and I do not care for eggs. I cannot begin to describe it except to say it is more like custard than an egg but that description does it a disservice. Other courses simply exploded with flavor on your pallette. The menu changes depending on the season and what is available. This chef knows what he is doing! "

  • "We had an early reservation so it was really quiet and our server had time to really explain the menu. We choose the 4 course dinner. Each course had an unusual preparation of the ingredients listed in the menu. We all really liked the use of the "ice cream" in several dishes. the Parsnip soup had been highly recommended and was lovely. We had them pair the wines with our courses and that was only thing that we would do differently next time."

  • "Treated family to dinner during a visit to St. Louis. Outstanding meal and so very creative. While our family is able to visit more frequently, we newcomers enjoyed some great entrees, one of red snapper and the other a mushroom special. Service was extremely good and our wait person went out of his way to provide some requested extras from the sister restaurant next door. Lovely evening and one we hope to recreate on a subsequent trip."
