We recently stayed in Geneva and debated between the restaurant at The Herrington, which has great reviews, and opted for The Niche, thinking it might have a little more ambience....not significantly so! We had a starter small plate of fried chicken and Mac and cheese, it was awesome. I had the barramundi and it was quite tasty. My husband had a ribeye, that we were told was supposed to be outstanding. It was not bad but not as great as it was hyped up to be and not in our estimation, a $50 piece of meat! Overall, a decent dining experience.

We decided to take a trip to a suburb we're unfamiliar with and found this fabulous gem of a restaurant. The food, service and ambiance was spectacular. My only complain would be that at the end of the night the staff gathered around the bar area for their communal meal and as I left I told them we had a terrific meal and instead of saying thank you they all kinda ignored their last guests as they left for the night. Not a "thanks for coming in folks".....nothing. Also, we mentioned to the bartender at the beginning of the night that we were impressed with the wine and champagne list and asked who created it. She said the GM and we asked to see him to give him credit for a job well done....he never showed face. Jeffery was a rock star!!

My girlfriend and I have been trying different restaurants in Geneva and the Niche experience was wonderful. The service was outstanding from the helpful bartender in choosing the perfect beverage to the greeter who took my coat and hung it up. Plus the waiter was extremely helpful in our dining choices but oh, the food!!! Every spoon or forkful was amazing.

We decided to go here on a whim and we were rewarded with a wonderful experience. It is a warm cozy spot, great for a date night. We opted for the special Halloween tasting menu. It was a 4 course meal with wine pairings. It was an amazing treat! The service was equally as special, our waitress was knowledgeable and engaging. It was a great date night! We will definitely be back!!

I have been meaning to eat at Niche for the past several years, and finally was able to make it there. The service was absolutely fantastic. Our waiter was so knowledgeable about the choices, he could have been the chef! He was always ready to help with questions, servings, and coffee refills, but he didn't hover too much. The food choices were very unique and so delicious, with great portion sizes. I can't wait to return and try something else!

Best restaurant meal we've had in ages! And so relaxing, too. Good portion size: not too much, not too little, and a good selection of interesting and well prepared vegetables with the main meat/fish. And save room for dessert: they are terrific. If you are looking for an ever-changing menu try Niche. They work with local food sources to provide the best fresh food where possible. The presentation is beautiful. The staff is amazing and attentive but if you want fast, don't come to Niche. Niche is a place to relax, talk and enjoy what's best in a dining experience. If new to Niche I highly recommend the chef's tasting menu of either 3 or 5 courses depending on your hunger level. Add the wine pairings to top off the experience or choose from their specialty drink, wine or extensive beer list. Regardless, go to Niche and enjoy.

This delightful restaurant is in downtown Geneva. A perfect size dining room where tables are filled, yet one doesn't feel "cramped in"---cozy, and one feels they are in a popular place to be. The attire is smart-casual, though some were in jeans. The food is innovative, tastes, great, and has an appetizing presentation. The restaurant is helping the local economy by growing and getting foodstuff from its nearby farm. All wait-staff is attentive, and there is an up-beat vibe in the place. My only negative comment is that the corkage fee (can bring your own wine, if Niche doesn't carry what you have) is pricey; however, the wine list is even pricier.

Had dinner at Niche on a weekend night - very lively! Our waiter was excellent, one of the best we've had since moving back to the Midwest. Smoked Char and the charcuterie plate started things off on a grand scale. The ox tail soup (special) was stunning, rich and flavorful. My wife had the tuna, slightly seared and perfectly rare while I had the half-duck along with a (highly recommended) side of the brussel sprouts. Make sure to save room for desserts, also as spectacular at the meal! Kudos also go to the bar master. Fantastic selection of craft beer, wine and (thankfully) a great selection of bourbon, rye. Large plus also for the clever Eli Roth concoction.

It is nicely decorated and fairly open dining area. Tables were pretty close which hinders any personal conversation. They have an extensive beer and bourbon menu and a decent wine list. I had the salmon and my wife had the Rib-eye. We arrived @ 6:45pm and my wife's rib-eye was the last one in the kitchen and 20% of it was gristly. My serving was more of an appetizer than a meal. Service was slow with long waits between courses. For the amount they charge ($$$$), I would have expected more. Unfortunately, the food and service did not warrant the high prices. We will not be coming back.

Thought we were in for a pleasant surprise with some visible internal changes. Saw familiar and new faces with staff. No more bread service, no more free cotton candy, no more table cloths-- it just screams- hey, I am cutting costs. The change in table positioning and increased seating for 2 just crams people into a loud situation- this was once quiet ,relaxing and pleasant. Glad they kept Brians painting. Give them points for that. We thought our food selections too salty for the main entree. Cheese tray however had an excellent selection which we had been acustomed to. Desert-not bad. Will likely give them another chance. Hopefully someone else watching the kitchen.

My husband and I took friends from the North Shore here for dinner. We hadn't visited since the restaurant had completed its' remodeling and engaged a new chef. The décor is very chic, however, the small bar area is now almost part of the restaurant proper. I preferred it when the bar was more separated; I think it made the restaurant noisier as will happen as the bar patrons consume more than one or two drinks. I also missed the more formal tablecloth service. All in all, it was a pleasant evening and our friends were impressed with their dinner. We love that Geneva has this dining gem. We've been patronizing this space in its' various restaurant iterations for more than 40 years!

Have not been to Niche in quite some time. Since our last visit, the chef has changed and the decor has been updated. First the positive - the updated decor is very nice, I would say casually elegant. Now the less than positive observations. Let me start by saying that our last rating was 5 stars and quite honestly this was the best restaurant in the western suburbs, in my opinion. After tonight, the rating is 3 stars. Niche has taken a step back, in my opinion, to appeal to a wider variety of clientele. Whereas before I would classify a niche as fine dining, I would say it is definitely casual, albeit on the nicer end of casual.

Food was outstanding, if you are willing to try new & different things; unfortunately, my husband prefers more ordinary food and had a very difficult time selecting items from the menu. The tasting consists of items selected from the regular menu. It is not something special the chef has created; however, every course was nicely presented and tasted amazing. Our server was very eager to explain each course & then return to ask if we agreed with her assessment. We felt we were constantly being interrupted. We were seated so close to other diners we could easily hear each other's conversations. Fortunately, the restaurant is relatively quiet so we could easily hear each other as well.
