Diner Reviews
  • "My wife and I like Niche, especially the cheese and the meat tray apps. The Wine list is good as well and the service is great!"

  • "Aaron was our server and not only did he know the menu well, he was light in his approach. He was very attentive and treated us as though we were his only table. Came back a second time a week later with business associates due to his service. Food was incredible from start to finish and the drinks were fantastic."

  • "We went to Niche for the 2nd time for our anniversary and it was wonderful! Drinks, food and service were top notch! Very reasonably priced for such high quality food! Better than I remembered the first time we ate there about 1.5 years ago. My husband is a chef and he was impressed!"

  • "My husband and I took friends from the North Shore here for dinner. We hadn't visited since the restaurant had completed its' remodeling and engaged a new chef. The décor is very chic, however, the small bar area is now almost part of the restaurant proper. I preferred it when the bar was more separated; I think it made the restaurant noisier as will happen as the bar patrons consume more than one or two drinks. I also missed the more formal tablecloth service. All in all, it was a pleasant evening and our friends were impressed with their dinner. We love that Geneva has this dining gem. We've been patronizing this space in its' various restaurant iterations for more than 40 years!"

  • "Have not been to Niche in quite some time. Since our last visit, the chef has changed and the decor has been updated. First the positive - the updated decor is very nice, I would say casually elegant. Now the less than positive observations. Let me start by saying that our last rating was 5 stars and quite honestly this was the best restaurant in the western suburbs, in my opinion. After tonight, the rating is 3 stars. Niche has taken a step back, in my opinion, to appeal to a wider variety of clientele. Whereas before I would classify a niche as fine dining, I would say it is definitely casual, albeit on the nicer end of casual."

  • "This restaurant nears disappoints. The food is always creative and just amazing!"

  • "Food was outstanding, if you are willing to try new & different things; unfortunately, my husband prefers more ordinary food and had a very difficult time selecting items from the menu. The tasting consists of items selected from the regular menu. It is not something special the chef has created; however, every course was nicely presented and tasted amazing. Our server was very eager to explain each course & then return to ask if we agreed with her assessment. We felt we were constantly being interrupted. We were seated so close to other diners we could easily hear each other's conversations. Fortunately, the restaurant is relatively quiet so we could easily hear each other as well."

  • "Finally found opportunity to go here and was not disappointed. The specialty drinks were delicious. The portions were good sized. Perfect to include an appetizer with a dessert, but not feel too heavy. The atmosphere was chic. Will return again, or stop in for a drink at the bar."

  • "My wife and i had not been back to Niche in quite some time. The 'new' chef as been a great change and in our opinion. Niche was back to what we first enjoyed and that is the diverse menu and wacky wine selections that are fantastic."

  • "This was my second time at Niche - newly remodeled interior. The food and service was excellent. The wine list is very good. Went on a Saturday night. This place is a nice little gem in the Geneva area."

  • "This is our new go to place in Geneva! Great service and food!"

  • "We had dinner at Niche on a Thursday evening - 3 adult women and 2 young girls. The experience could not have been better. Jeffrey was our server and he was absolutely outstanding. He paid special attention to girls and made them feel valued. He made appropriate recommendations throughout the evening from appetizers to specials to desserts and after-dinner drinks. The food was excellent and the ambiance was lovely. All of us especially appreciated the homemade cotton candy! We will definitely return!"

  • "We had out-of town quests visiting and they wanted to have dinner at a nice, classy restaurant and Niche is the place. Never been disappointed in the food or service. Outstanding place to enjoy a great meal."
    Dined on 8/2/2014
  • "Service was good and informative. Food was very good though rather expensive, as we expected it to be. Drinks/wine very over-priced for our likes ($12 for Grey Goose vodka on the rocks, $10 for glass of cab). Don't serve any bread. Had to buy a special french croissant plate for $6. Was very good. Not likely to go back just because of price. But if money is no object, then it's an excellent choice."

  • "We were here several years ago. It is not as formal. I remember white tablecloths, more formal service. More casual now. I liked the old version."

  • "Wonderful dining experience as always! Our entire meal, from salmon to sorbets, were just great! Staff was very pleasant and personable."

  • "Amazing experience and food was spectacular. Adam was our server and he was excellent, he was extremely knowedgeable and even suggested a wine off the list that paired with our meals. We had the gulf shrimp and pork belly appetizer, berkshire pork cheek, my husband had a steak special, all were done perfectly. For dessert, a shot and a beer and the milkshake torte, while the shot and a beer was good, the milkshake torte was out if this world!! We have been to Niche several times and we will keep coming back."

  • "I dined here two days ago and I'm still daydreaming about the food! The Monk fish is a must try and the their version of tomato soup perfectly spiced up also just blew my mind. There is only one other restaurant in the burbs of this caliber in the burbs and that's barrington bistro....but they don't have cotton candy on the menu for dessert haha I'll def be back again again!"

  • "First, I have to say the Rib Eye was the best thing in the world. I can not even tell you, you HAVE to try it! The barrel-age Manhattan was incredible and the bartender was sweet and knowledgeable. Our server Aaron was great he was also very knowledgeable about the wines and recommended a great one, my wife loved it. All of his food recommendations were on point too, including the milk shake torte, monkfish and pretzels. All of the food was incredible and competes with any restaurant in the city. I also like the new interior it is much more open and appealing however, I didn't like the plates on the back wall they seem out of place."
    Dined on 7/22/2014
  • "The food was outstanding. The waiter was knowledgeable and helpful. The wine by the glass was expensive. I would not call this place cosy or warm. Too much light."
    Dined on 7/19/2014
  • "Excellent food and service. I would love to make this our weekly date night."
    Dined on 7/18/2014
  • "I have been to Niche before, but this time something was not the same. Thursday night very few tables, they were out of popular spirits, the little touch of class was missing. However the food and service did make up for the difference."
    Dined on 7/17/2014
  • "The new Niche is open, clean and sophisticated. There are so many whiskeys, bourbons and craft beers my husband was thrilled about this part. He tried some new beers and I got the seeing things which was amazing! We started with the pretzels, they came with this bacon onion jam that was out of this world. Our entrees were the seared tuna and the special of the evening the rib eye. My husband was in complete heaven; the steak was perfectly med-rare and every bite he claimed was better than the first. Now dessert was better than I could have ever hoped for. The milkshake torte, I cannot even describe how wonderful this is you just need to try it. Our server Jeffery was fantastic; he was extremely knowledgeable and attentive. Overall wonderful"

  • "If you're used to the old Niche: white tablecloths, attentive waitstaff, a touch of elegance, it is not the same The food is still fantastic HOWEVER the bar is now part of the restaurant..no table candles, the tables are a dark wood that show your body oils as you rub on them...we had a delicious pretzel appetizer served on a stone piece..because of no plate, all the crumbs stayed on the table through the entire meal...Jeffrey, top waiter in all of Chicago was off that day, disappointing. I would go back to sit at the bar, have a cocktail and an appetizer. But i am torn between the excellent food and the Alexander's type atmosphere. Ok maybe I'm stretching on the Alexander's comment..but wait..doesn't ALexanders serve on white table cloths?"

  • "Based on Vettel's review inthe Trib we visited Niche. A long drive but worth it in terms of the quality of food. The gougeres lived up to the reputation. Salad a little unimaginative, but the main dishes were extremely good. Wine is very high priced, even for modest vintages. Extremely attentive service."

  • "Everything about Niche is just perfect. The dining room is warm and inviting and just the right size. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and attentive about the food and wine offerings. The food was wonderful, the small but adequate menu really had something for everyone. I can't wait to go back, Niche is my new favorite place to dine!"
    Dined on 7/5/2014
  • "The food and service were both good to very good but not great to outstanding. I wish there was something memorable to report but there wasn't. Again, no problems, but it just didn't have that spark that would make me want to go back."

  • "My wife and I celebrated our 20th at Niche. The beer and wine list is extensive and the food is wonderful. We will be back!"

  • "Niche is an oasis of taste and ambiance: delicious food, beautifully plated, surprising combinations, lovely wine, non-intrusive but impeccable service. (Thank you, Jeffrey.) This restaurant continues to offer the best of big city dining in a relaxed suburban atmosphere."

  • "We had a great expierence with our server. He was very competent, aware of our meal goals, and well schooled on both food and the resturant offerings. The Manhattan is a must have! Great place for a romantic two or group. Enjoy!!!"

  • "Service was very nice, felt cared for but not hovered over. Food was well-presented. I had an appetizer, mussels, that was fine, but not as good as I'd hoped. Ahi Tuna entree with purple sticky rice was fabulous. Dessert was lovely as well"

  • "Nice eclectic menu, care to detail, excellent waiter. Noise level was high, but enjoyable meal nonetheless."

  • "My wife took me to Niche for a Father's Day dinner - I had suggested it based on a review by Phil Vettel of the Chicago Tribune. We were not disappointed, both in terms of the exceptional quality and finesse of the food, as well as the attentive level of service. My wife's only criticism is that she felt the portions of her meal were too small for the price - an hour later she said she was hungry. Overall, though, Niche was outstanding - my wife and I both felt we no longer had to drive into Chicago for "haute cuisine.""

  • "Celebrated our fifteenth wedding anniversary at Niche. Elegant, yet comfortable, environment with skilled welcoming staff. The Fried Chicken appetizer was amazing, but that's true of our whole experience. It's the first place I think of when we have a special occasion, or just a night out without the kids."

  • "The food and service were outstanding, but the featured Frog's Leap Cab. at $80/per bottle was disappointing. We'd go back for the food, but the Frog's Leap, while complex and delicious on first tasting, became slightly sour and uninteresting when combined with food. Perhaps it was starting to cork? Niche stores their bottles vertically. Our cork was barely wet. "
