If you are looking for an ever-changing menu try Niche. They work with local food sources to provide the best fresh food where possible. The presentation is beautiful. The staff is amazing and attentive but if you want fast, don't come to Niche. Niche is a place to relax, talk and enjoy what's best in a dining experience. If new to Niche I highly recommend the chef's tasting menu of either 3 or 5 courses depending on your hunger level. Add the wine pairings to top off the experience or choose from their specialty drink, wine or extensive beer list. Regardless, go to Niche and enjoy.

This delightful restaurant is in downtown Geneva. A perfect size dining room where tables are filled, yet one doesn't feel "cramped in"---cozy, and one feels they are in a popular place to be. The attire is smart-casual, though some were in jeans. The food is innovative, tastes, great, and has an appetizing presentation. The restaurant is helping the local economy by growing and getting foodstuff from its nearby farm. All wait-staff is attentive, and there is an up-beat vibe in the place. My only negative comment is that the corkage fee (can bring your own wine, if Niche doesn't carry what you have) is pricey; however, the wine list is even pricier.

Had dinner at Niche on a weekend night - very lively! Our waiter was excellent, one of the best we've had since moving back to the Midwest. Smoked Char and the charcuterie plate started things off on a grand scale. The ox tail soup (special) was stunning, rich and flavorful. My wife had the tuna, slightly seared and perfectly rare while I had the half-duck along with a (highly recommended) side of the brussel sprouts. Make sure to save room for desserts, also as spectacular at the meal! Kudos also go to the bar master. Fantastic selection of craft beer, wine and (thankfully) a great selection of bourbon, rye. Large plus also for the clever Eli Roth concoction.

It is nicely decorated and fairly open dining area. Tables were pretty close which hinders any personal conversation. They have an extensive beer and bourbon menu and a decent wine list. I had the salmon and my wife had the Rib-eye. We arrived @ 6:45pm and my wife's rib-eye was the last one in the kitchen and 20% of it was gristly. My serving was more of an appetizer than a meal. Service was slow with long waits between courses. For the amount they charge ($$$$), I would have expected more. Unfortunately, the food and service did not warrant the high prices. We will not be coming back.

We make it a point not to give negative reviews. A 'no' review will suffice for us. Because we gave a sterling review in March of 2013, we feel obligated to add the note, that in general, Niche has slipped a notch or two. It remains a fine local restaurant, just not a must visit.

Thought we were in for a pleasant surprise with some visible internal changes. Saw familiar and new faces with staff. No more bread service, no more free cotton candy, no more table cloths-- it just screams- hey, I am cutting costs. The change in table positioning and increased seating for 2 just crams people into a loud situation- this was once quiet ,relaxing and pleasant. Glad they kept Brians painting. Give them points for that. We thought our food selections too salty for the main entree. Cheese tray however had an excellent selection which we had been acustomed to. Desert-not bad. Will likely give them another chance. Hopefully someone else watching the kitchen.

My husband and I took friends from the North Shore here for dinner. We hadn't visited since the restaurant had completed its' remodeling and engaged a new chef. The décor is very chic, however, the small bar area is now almost part of the restaurant proper. I preferred it when the bar was more separated; I think it made the restaurant noisier as will happen as the bar patrons consume more than one or two drinks. I also missed the more formal tablecloth service. All in all, it was a pleasant evening and our friends were impressed with their dinner. We love that Geneva has this dining gem. We've been patronizing this space in its' various restaurant iterations for more than 40 years!

Have not been to Niche in quite some time. Since our last visit, the chef has changed and the decor has been updated. First the positive - the updated decor is very nice, I would say casually elegant. Now the less than positive observations. Let me start by saying that our last rating was 5 stars and quite honestly this was the best restaurant in the western suburbs, in my opinion. After tonight, the rating is 3 stars. Niche has taken a step back, in my opinion, to appeal to a wider variety of clientele. Whereas before I would classify a niche as fine dining, I would say it is definitely casual, albeit on the nicer end of casual.

Food was outstanding, if you are willing to try new & different things; unfortunately, my husband prefers more ordinary food and had a very difficult time selecting items from the menu. The tasting consists of items selected from the regular menu. It is not something special the chef has created; however, every course was nicely presented and tasted amazing. Our server was very eager to explain each course & then return to ask if we agreed with her assessment. We felt we were constantly being interrupted. We were seated so close to other diners we could easily hear each other's conversations. Fortunately, the restaurant is relatively quiet so we could easily hear each other as well.

Service was good and informative. Food was very good though rather expensive, as we expected it to be. Drinks/wine very over-priced for our likes ($12 for Grey Goose vodka on the rocks, $10 for glass of cab). Don't serve any bread. Had to buy a special french croissant plate for $6. Was very good. Not likely to go back just because of price. But if money is no object, then it's an excellent choice.

Amazing experience and food was spectacular. Adam was our server and he was excellent, he was extremely knowedgeable and even suggested a wine off the list that paired with our meals. We had the gulf shrimp and pork belly appetizer, berkshire pork cheek, my husband had a steak special, all were done perfectly. For dessert, a shot and a beer and the milkshake torte, while the shot and a beer was good, the milkshake torte was out if this world!! First, I have to say the Rib Eye was the best thing in the world. I can not even tell you, you HAVE to try it! The barrel-age Manhattan was incredible and the bartender was sweet and knowledgeable. Our server Aaron was great he was also very knowledgeable about the wines and recommended a great one, my wife loved it. All of his food recommendations were on point too, including the milk shake torte, monkfish and pretzels. All of the food was incredible and competes with any restaurant in the city. I also like the new interior it is much more open and appealing however, I didn't like the plates on the back wall they seem out of place.

The new Niche is open, clean and sophisticated. There are so many whiskeys, bourbons and craft beers my husband was thrilled about this part. He tried some new beers and I got the seeing things which was amazing! We started with the pretzels, they came with this bacon onion jam that was out of this world. Our entrees were the seared tuna and the special of the evening the rib eye. My husband was in complete heaven; the steak was perfectly med-rare and every bite he claimed was better than the first. Now dessert was better than I could have ever hoped for. The milkshake torte, I cannot even describe how wonderful this is you just need to try it. Our server Jeffery was fantastic; he was extremely knowledgeable and attentive. Overall wonderful

If you're used to the old Niche: white tablecloths, attentive waitstaff, a touch of elegance, it is not the same The food is still fantastic HOWEVER the bar is now part of the restaurant..no table candles, the tables are a dark wood that show your body oils as you rub on them...we had a delicious pretzel appetizer served on a stone piece..because of no plate, all the crumbs stayed on the table through the entire meal...Jeffrey, top waiter in all of Chicago was off that day, disappointing. I would go back to sit at the bar, have a cocktail and an appetizer. But i am torn between the excellent food and the Alexander's type atmosphere. Ok maybe I'm stretching on the Alexander's comment..but wait..doesn't ALexanders serve on white table cloths?
