A group of 4 of us came here as a
celebration after an event. Service was very good, but we were also the only ones in the restaurant, so...it should be. We ordered several dishes because we had a variety of nutritional restrictions. I think with dessert we ordered 14 or 15 dishes. We were satisfied. The server was very accommodating to our nutritional needs, gladly modifying dishes as necessary. A few of the dishes were delicious, most others were not memorable, and a couple actually required the addition of salt because they were bland. All-in-all, the service was great but the food and drinks were expensive and mediocre."

Good menu with a lot of options. I
would have like to try the prix fixe but that requires the entire table to join in. As it was, they offer a good selection of dishes for the vegan, vegetarian, and omnivore. The servings are good sized for tapas, so you can probably get by with two or three at the most."

This was my wife's and my first
visit to Nia, and we will be returning with family and friends. Very European, very hip but not intimidating to older folks (like us.) The blend of multpile cuisines makes choices fun and easy. The 8 course prix fixe dinner was the best way to sample a lot of foods: it was value-priced, the portions were large, and every single item was delicious. We especially liked the strip steak with pesto, mushroom risotto, and diver scallops. The drink and wine lists are eclectic, interesting, and priced fairly. The evening was enhanced by our waiter, Marty, who was one of the most helpful, friendly, and engaging servers I have ever met. He clearly enjoys his job and makes the experience a peak one. GO!"

The food was very fresh and
flavorful and the ambiance fantastic! Plates/Portions very large for reasonable price."

We had a table of 10 and I was
told ahead of time that we would be required to order off a pre-set menu. What I did not understand is that everyone at the ENTIRE table would have to get the exact same course for 8 courses--no flexibility except for 3 vegetarians. Contrast this to other tapas restaurants where half the fun is trying a lot of new dishes at once. I proposed splitting us in half, 5 on one table and 5 on the other, each to select their courses for the 5, but that was refused (which makes no sense because I'm assuming had we come in as separate tables, they would not have made us eat what our neighboring table was eating...but who knows!) We received begrudging, inflexible service. Never returning."

Tried the tasting menu. Didn't
think there would be a lot of food, but I was proved wrong. This for sure is the way to go. So many options. Food was great."

Perfect place for a date.
Candlelight, amazing service, 8 course meal was superb."
Dined on 2/15/2014
We have a wonderful meal for
Valentine's Day. We were very glad to have a table in the downstairs room. Our server did a great job. We will certainly go back again soon."
Dined on 2/14/2014
Had a great time at Nia! The
service was great, very attentive but still gave you your space to enjoy your dinner. The food was wonderful and the staff was more than happy to wrap up what we didn't finish. I really liked the atmosphere in the restaurant. Many restaurants try to rush you out the door when you finish and I didn't feel like that at all. I will definitely be back!"
Dined on 2/9/2014
I'd skip the kimchi; it was not my
favorite. Nothing was particularly fantastic, but I will say that the price was right and the portions were generous."
Dined on 1/13/2014
Great selection of food. The
baclava was not so good. Some courses were brought too soon before the previous was consumed."
Dined on 2/8/2014
Overall, the food was good and the
service was good. However, we just weren't sure that we felt everything was worth the price. Mostly mediocre tapas, one was very good (gnocchi) and one was very bad (scallops), for relatively high prices. It doesn't feel like Nia fits in on Randolph Street because everything around is exceptional and Nia just isn't exceptional. Again, not bad but, I probably won't be back with so many other places on my list to try."

We had the pleasure on enjoying
Nia this past Saturday and were delighted to find out they were part of restaurant week. One of the best RW menus I have scene. 8 tapas courses for $33 was insane. Everything was perfect for sharing and we were able to try a nice variety. The lamb meatballs were delicious. I will definitely be back, restaurant week or not ."
Dined on 2/8/2014
Went to this place for restaurant
week. The online menu did not say that it was $33 per person per table. In other words, if you went with 2 people you would pay $66 for the "9" course menu, in which you would select one option for each of the "9 courses." No biggie. However, I don't understand how you could possibly have enough food if you had a larger group. The place was very cramped and noisy. The servers were inattentive the moment we came in however, the actual service was not that bad (although they were very disinterested). The only notable dishes may have been the 2-3 appetizers (nia salad, bacon wrapped dates, baked goat cheese). I personally would never come back to this place and don't recommend it for Mediterranean food."
Dined on 2/5/2014
It was not even busy. Waited at
least 45 minutes from time we sat down to eat. Not good for trying to squeeze lunch in during the work day. Food was decent. Dessert amazing!"
Dined on 1/29/2014
This is always a heavenly oasis in
every sense. Great food, romantic lighting, gracious and welcoming service. A true gem. Love it."
Dined on 2/3/2014
The food had potential. Hot items
were lukewarm at best. Had heard awesome things about the food and restaurant overall, but upon my visit, was underwhelmed. Our server never asked if we wanted drink refills. We had to keep trying to get her attention. it was not a busy time at the restaurant either. Was greeted at the host stand by Walker, he was the most kind and courteous person there. Our waitress did not introduce herself. My group of friends was less than pleased with our experience, maybe will try again after Chicago Restaurant Week."

I had never been here, but plan on
going back soon!! amazing good food!"

My boyfriend & I went to Nia
During restaurant week. They had an awesome menu for an awesome price. We got the Nia Salad, Artisean Meat tray, Saganaki, Eggplant Involtini, Mushroom Risotto, Scallops, Lamb Chops & the sautéed Bananna. Everything was great but we loved the scallops, Saganaki, and the sautéed bananna. The sevjce was great but I wish the would bring the fish course out alone because our scallops were cold before we were done with out eggplant course. Same with the Saganaki, it had awesome flavor but by the time we were halfway done it was cold. I was a little disappointed they didn't do the whole Saganaki presentation at the table but I understand why they didn't. Overall, the wine food and service were good and we will be back"

Drink menu seemed promising, but I
was less than thrilled with the food. Many of the courses seemed like they started as frozen patties in a freezer box: crab cakes and chicken croquettes especially. I was pleased with the argula salad, which was simple but had strong flavors, mostly due to some high-quality balsamic vinegar. Cauliflower lacked flavor. Dessert was likely frozen. Also, my dining partner and I are both sensitive to MSG and were up all night with hot flashes and heart palpitations. I think if this place put a little more emphasis on food, I would want to return. But based on this experience, I will not, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone."
Dined on 1/30/2014
Food was pretty good but being a
celiac kind of ruined it. We had a group of four and we all had to agree on one item per course to share. The waiter had said he would accommodate me with special items but he never did. The courses kind of showed up in a jumbled order so I kept thinking my special stuff would come. It never did :(. So I was only able to eat 5 out of the eight courses."
Dined on 1/31/2014
We went during restaurant week for
the prix fixe lunch, which was delicious! I don't think there was anything we didn't like that we ordered! The restaurant is nicely decorated and there were only a few other patrons dining at the same time. Our waiter, while very nice, messed up several of our courses, and the hostess, who was helping run food to tables, kept bringing us the wrong food items. It would've helped if the waiter actually wrote down what we ordered. The food was delicious, even then items we didn't order! May go back if we're ever in the area again."

Tapas should have been a way to
accommodate 12 people's tastes and dietary restrictions. The website offers a set 8 course menu for large parties. Online it says "one choice per course". Silly me, I assumed it meant per person, but when we arrived, the full sentence was on the menu, "one choice per course per table". Convenient that they leave that part out on the website. Even our waiter admitted "people get mad all the time". Anyway, once we (mostly) stopped being livid about this stupid rule, the food was actually tasty. Too bad there was TERRIBLE service (forgotten dishes, wrong things brought to our table then re-served to another table, extra charges on the bill, and 50(!) minutes between last course and dessert). Disappointing."
Dined on 1/28/2014
We arrived earlier than our
reserved time, however, we were seated immediately. Service began readily after we made our menu choices. We were the least excited by the bacon wrapped dates, but it was something we wanted to try. While we appreciate the speedy service, at one point, our table was very crowded due to multiple plates brought out simultaneously. Overall we enjoyed our dinner and look forward to dining there again in the future."
Dined on 1/24/2014
Went for restuarant week. I loved
everything. Open table doesn't allow fractional stars so I gave it a 4 bc I don't give out 5s lightly. Strongly recommend. My favorite was the lamb and feta meatballs"
Dined on 1/28/2014
The entire experience, especially
the food and service, was phenomenal!! Will now be a regular there!"
Dined on 1/25/2014
The main floor of this place looks
fun and lively. There's a nice little bar scene right at the entrance and the main floor dining is directly behind. The decor looks great on this level. Unfortunately when we dined, we were seated down in the lower level. I think I'll call it the basement. It looked like a dining hall for special events. It has none of the ambiance of the upper floor. The lighting was sterile, the bar looked like something out of a 70s casino and the walls had fabric sound suppressors that reminded me of a conference room. The servers were slow and forgetful. Food and drinks were great."

Nia has a great menu for regular
dining, the restaurant week menu was just a preview with 6 courses. Regular menu is around 6-8 courses, served tapas style. I went to check this out with a friend, and we loved the Nia salad, it's a must try! Cauliflower gratin was bland because they happened to serve it after the wonderfully spiced pumpkin gnocchi. The lamb & feta meatballs was another great dish, and they are well know for their bread pudding apparently. Oh my god..warm decadent pieces of bread pudding just melts in your mouth! I would definitely recommend this place for date nights. Although each party can only pick one dish from each course, I wonder how they handle large parties."
Dined on 1/25/2014
We tried a variety of dishes since
they are small plates designed to serve two people. Everything was excellent, however in hindsight, I would have skipped the skirt steak with so many other choices on the menu. The bread pudding was delicious."
Dined on 1/17/2014
We had a lovely time at Nia. Food
came out quickly and was delicious. Our server was very helpful with suggestions on the menu Will def return to try the 8 course tasting menu."
Dined on 1/13/2014
Food was fine -- nothing really
special. Service was attentive -- but there were only 2 other tables occupied. Not sure how they are when it's packed. Nice restaurant, but nothing special."
Dined on 12/27/2013
Excellent food with good sized
portions. All dishes are portioned for sharing which makes the experience more fun. Very friendly staff. I was really confused why this place was empty for lunch on a Thursday."
Dined on 12/19/2013
If you haven't been, you are
missing out on great food and a perfect atmosphere. If you are ready to get the same quality food as girl and goat, sepia, bavettes, and the other restaurants in the area but tired of sitting elbow to elbow with the person next to you then Nia is the spot for you. I have been to all the nice restaurants in Chicago and Nia is one of my top 3."
Dined on 12/18/2013
Very quiet spot, great if you want
to catch up with a friend! Food was great, not the best, however for the price portions are pretty big so eat up! :)"
Dined on 12/6/2013
Six of us met at Nia for dinner.
We had a wide variety of tapas and enjoyed them all. One of my favorites was the citrus cerviche. And the bacon wrapped dates are always delicious and hard to pass up. We all enjoyed the red sangria as well. The service was just right. Always there to take our orders and refill our wine glasses. I cannot think of anything negative to say about our evening. We all had a really fun time having a variety of different tasting foods. Next time we are in Chicago we will have to return."
Dined on 11/29/2013
We were the only one there for
lunch. Portions were very large for a typical tapas. The food was good, not spectacular."
Dined on 11/7/2013
The menu was ordinary, but the
server suggested the special small plate luncheon priced at $22 per person. Tapas choices were excellent and creative. Food was really delicious and served hot! The amount of food served was perfect. Plan on returning for dinner!!"

This is a tough call for me
because I wanted to be adventurous and try something out of the box for me and finally try something new so I decided to give Mediterranean food a try. When I try new foods i usually go with friends that know the food but i chose this restaurant because they had a fixed menu which made picking food easier. i was surprised with the selection because I felt as though I was in a Spanish tapas place, I guess I was expecting something unique but it was lacking. It's a very romantic place and I enjoyed being there for a date but for the price we could have gone to something better."
Dined on 10/20/2013
Good food and service and had a
great time with our party of four. Was not too noisy or over crowded would definitely come back and recommend. Enjoyed the 8 course menu had a mix of everything."
Dined on 10/19/2013
Had an early dinner so that we
could make a music event down Randolph at City Winery. First time here and from beginning to end, the experience was great. Did the price fixe and each of the 7-8 courses were great. Would highly recommend."
