A word from Ngam
Long ago chef Ngamprom "Hong" Thaimee left her modeling and television work in Thailand and made her way into the world of food, trainining under Thailand's most celebrated chef, M.L. Sirichalerm Savsti. Eventually she came to New York, where Thaimee cooked at Kittichai and Spice Market. She now goes solo at Ngam, which, aside from being her namesake, happens to be the Thai word for beautiful. The Union Square area spot serves updated spins on Thai comfort food, including a tom yum soup with crispy trout, Thai burger with papaya salad, pad Thai with grilled black tiger prawns, and duck larb salad. You'll also find a smaller lunch menu, plus a bar serving wine and beer.Continued

  • "I live in London. I would go to New York just to eat at Ngam. In fact, I make sure I do eat at Ngam every time I find I'm passing through New York and it never disappoints. This is exquisitely delicious Thai food, some very traditional but mostly given an inventive new twist for the New York scene. The deep-fried whole sea bass with spicy, zingy dipping sauce was a hit with my 'reformed vegan' just starting to eat fish friend. The Thai-spiced pear with chocolate ganache is unbelievably tasty."

  • "On our travels was recommended this restaurant and we ended up checking it out on our quick stopover. We love thai food and this took it to another level. Vibrant flavours, great spicy level, wide selection that makes you cry because you can't get them all. And best of all, the prices were fair. We had the Lamb Roti, Thai Tacos, Tom Soup, Beet Dumplings. They were very accommodating and the wild ambiance is exactly what i like. The long table looked like a fun option for big groups."

Our server did mess up one of our orders and we never got our food but overall the food was great and this is a cute little shop in the EV. I've already ordered delivery several times!"

  • "This restaurant is a great modern take on thai food. The good alone is well worth the visit, but the ambience makes the restaurant that much cooler!! From the shared long table down the middle (which I sat at) to the more intimate tables along the wall. I loved the exposed brick and the glowing love sign across from the kitchen! The food came out quick and everything was delicious! I definitely recommend the spring rolls and the fries!"

We got the mushroom spring rolls, authentic pad thai and zucchini pad thai. The food was good but nothing special and overpriced for what we ordered. The wine portions were also really stingy which was a bummer and shocking to see how much we actually got. Service at Ngam was nice and our waitress was attentive so no complaints there. If you live in the neighborhood or are around there and need a place to eat it is a solid but don't expect to be blown away. Overall, glad I went, not a waste of $ but I likely will not be back."

  • "I've been to a lot of Thai restaurants in the city and this is by far the best. The pumpkin/sweet potato fries are an absolute must for a starter dish to share. You really can't go wrong with any of the pad thai dishes either! It's a great place for a date or just a night out with your friends. The ambience is just the perfect mix of lively and romantic. Highly recommended!"

  • "Thought we had good Thai food where we come from, but this bustling little place really gave the taste buds a jolt. The small plates we had were all extremely tasty, well seasoned, bursting with flavour. Special notables were the beef salad and the meaty chicken wings. The Pad Thai and curry were a bit tame by comparison, and could have used a bit more zip. The busboy we had totally outshone the waitress in regard to attentiveness and courtesy. Only problem was an intense garlic mouth the next morning. Would definitely return next time in NYC."

  • "After reading the Times and Village Voice reviews, we were prepared to be blown away. If this is the best Thai restaurant in NYC right now, we've got problems. Food is inventive, yes, and ingredients thoughtful and we'll-sourced. But to our table of 4, it felt like everything came steeped in sugarcane, obscuring other favors and hurting the texture of the food. Ventilation system also needs work, we felt like we were sitting in front of a fan. On a high note, lunch specials are a great deal. But bring a toothbrush"

They explained it was for the kitchen staff but it also was responsible fot bringing cool to cold dishes to the table. Won't go back anymore."

  • "I had my birthday dinner here on a friday night and it was a great experience. I was impressed with the service which was attentive and patient. We had a rather large party that included a baby, dinner ran longer we expected and they didn't rush us. The food was also wonderful, I highly recommend the chicken wing appetizer and the pad see ew. Will definitely be back here again."

  • "Off to a bad start when, despite having a reservation, we were told we would have a significant wait or could perch at the bar. We opted for the latter and spent a mediocre meal being jostled by others waiting for their overdue reservations. To top it off I got a 'no show' from the restaurant! OpenTable fixed that quickly but I guess it just shows this restaurant is chaotic. The food isn't so good, the service is dreadful and the whole experience overpriced."
