NgamThe place was cool but allThe place was cool but all the food was a bit spicy for my liking. The service and everything was great. Other than the food being spicy, no matter what we ordered, the food was pretty good.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for our group of 10!I'll be honest - I wasn't expecting much from a restaurant that had availability 3 days before a Friday night for a group of 10 people. Boy was I surprised! The food was great and really inventive (I had the papaya pad thai and my husband had the squid ink noodles with calamari), the drinks, even though lacking liquor, were really tasty and not too sweet, the cost was very reasonable and the service - WOW! Living in NYC, I never have high expectations for service at any restaurant that isn't $$$$ and I was pleasantly surprised by the attentive and friendly service here.
Overall, great food, drink and service and a reasonably priced meal make Ngam a restaurant I would return to and recommend to others!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food , trendy, young, funWe thoroughly enjoyed the great food and active younger vibe at this contemporary fusion Thai place. Chef Hong knows how to create "new" Thai with modern sensibilities and a lighter healthier feel to her dishes. Many unique creations, all that we tried. With perfect balance and artistic flair. We will return. Suggest you try it before it gets too hard to get a reservation.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMSaw this chef and RestaurantSaw this chef and Restaurant on Iron Chef. Took family that is new to Thai food and they loved it! Really unique dishes and great assistance in choosing dishes. The chef even walked around to the tables and was personable with the guests. Definitely recommend!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMI am a Thai cuisine loverI am a Thai cuisine lover therefore I critic the restaurants with much scrutiny. I absolutely have nothing but praises for Ngam. Love it!!! When I write a note of praise on my receipt, that means you of pure quality and worthy to be praised!4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food is indescribablyThe food is indescribably good. I lowered my face into the "Cutie Duckling" to let the smells wash over and in me. Sitting at the counter and watching the cooks do their thing was part of the sensory experience. Everybody was friendly and helpful. If I lived in New York I would be there all the time.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Thai food!!! We wentGreat Thai food!!! We went to a broadway show & arrived at the restaurant when it was winding down for the night but the staff greeted us warmly and helped us make a yummy food selection. Would definitely try it again when we had more time to fully experience the food!4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMFoodie spotThe first thing that needs to be said: Ngam is somewhere to go for unexpected flavors, and fun, fusion food. As we ate, my friend commented that everyone around us looked like a serious foodie, which she liked.
We had some hits and some misses. My first cocktail was weak, but when I told our server that I wanted my second one strong, he was happy to oblige. I wasn't sure how I felt about the oyster shooter, but the scallop served in a martini glass was perfect and interesting.
Everything else was great. Grilled calamari was juicy and flavorful, the sweet pea kao suey with dumplings was incredible (spicy, but you can tell your server to go easy on you), and the jasmine panacotta with lychees -- UNREAL.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThe staff here is great- theyThe staff here is great- they accommodated a brunch of 15 for us, were helpful and handled payment well. The food lived up to the Chef's reputation, and we had a great time. Recommend for sunday brunch, fun creative menu and awesome space!4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMNgam is a small place withNgam is a small place with an active tame-out clientele. It's not fancy, with a low key atmosphere that is neat and modern. Menu was varied, not your standard Thai restaurant, and we found several appealing, well flavored items. You could make a nice meal from the "small plates." Be careful to check how spicy something is when you order. Wait person was very helpful and friendly and the drinks were great.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMI went with a friend to tryI went with a friend to try Ngam after reading great reviews. It lived up to expectations. The place is super cute and they were extremely helpful when choosing a dish. The Chang Mai fries are a real treat!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious! Every part of theDelicious! Every part of the meal was so tasty. Loved the atmosphere. Only negative was that the cocktails we had were kind of weak. Many more things on the menu we want to try... Will definitely go back again.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat "standard" Thai issuesGreat "standard" Thai issues and a bunch of more innovative (yet equally delicious) items. Would definitely go back!3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyed everything! Wings,Enjoyed everything! Wings, rotie, pad thai, chicken and short ribs were favourite. Oyster shots best ever.3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMEach dish had a complex layeringEach dish had a complex layering of flavors& spices. Will definitely eat here again nextVisit to NYC!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMInventive Thai with staffInventive Thai with staff who made a special occasion even more special.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGoThe food is fantastic and the overall experience is all down to Chef Hong's approach to her diners. It's an open kitchen so she is visible working and expediting, and makes it her business to regularly go around the tables to chat to guests and see how they're enjoying the food and the experience. All in a friendly, natural way. It's highly unusual for such a talented chef to do this, and makes a dinner at Ngam very special. Her approach rubs off on the wait staff who are all great. The restaurant itself is also the right mix of cosy and cool. Highly recommend.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely lunch with my family....weLovely lunch with my family....we arrived early and they sat us right away. Everything was delicious - papaya and green apple salad was served in an interesting bowl. Chose Ngam becauseWhat a find? Chose Ngam because it was close to the theater we were going to, but we cannot wait to return. The food was outstanding, beautifully presented and served by an attentive, helpful, pleasant staff. You are a gem.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMHands down, NGAM currentlyHands down, NGAM currently offers the best Thai food possible in NYC. In addition to the standards, they have a great number of unique, innovative Thai dishes that you can't find at your local Thai place. And the best part is, the food is just outstanding!I've never tried something i don't like there. The drinks are equally delicious, and all of this comes at a relatively reasonable price. The only downside is that this place gets crowded and they don't have a great spot to wait for your table--as in, very little space. Reservations are generally respected, but they are often running 10-15 minutes late, so as long as you know that, its ok.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
