A word from Neyla
Meet Neyla, the Mediterranean spirit of prosperity, abundance, and success. The restaurant that celebrates her is a treat for the senses and social graces. Both elegant and comfortable, Neyla is inspired by Romanesque Mediterranean villas, and influenced by the myriad peoples who settled in that wondrous part of the world. Neyla is a delightful mix of exotic cultures, inspired in the homes, hearths and taverns of the rugged land known first as Phoenicia, then the Ottoman Empire, and later the Republic of Lebanon. From nomadic Arab tribes, Ottoman Turks, Egyptians, Greek and French rulers, Neyla's food melds the best of all the Mediterranean cultures. Vegetables, salads, grilled meats and fish are set off by light, and subtly spiced sauces. Coriander, cinnamon, basil, thyme, Turkish pastries, coffee with cardamom and of course the renowned Lebanese mezzas tell the tongue a story of four thousand years of culinary history.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "We have dined here many times. Service is great Food is different and good. Location is fun. If the weather is good sit outside. It was a little chilly when we went so we sat inside. The service is great from the moment you walk in the door and a greeted. This restaurant has it figured out . The host/hostess always happy and smiling. Server was excellent and offered lots of suggestions. Fun experience."

  • "Lamb chops were excellent. Appetizers were amazing. VERY good staff and friendly service. Good location and not bad parking for Georgetown."

  • "The food was really disappointing. It was also so loud we were shouting across the table to our friends. Would not recommend."

  • "As a Lebanese I can definitely say the food is average at Neyla, and it is really very expensive compared to the quantity of food served."

  • "We are visiting DC and stumbled on Neyla. My husband's mom was Lebanese so we know what this food is supposed to taste like. Food was fresh, not greasy, good spice. Excellent server. Decor was a little tired but that didn't matter. Recommend it!"

  • "My wife and I enjoyed a nice meal, on the recommendation of our city-dwelling daughter, who likes Neyla a lot. She was right, as the service and food were just right."

  • "Our experience was not terrific. A couple of the starters were excellent (yoghurt/cucumber & tabouleh) but the mains (both shrimp kabobs) suffered. Mine from soggy accompanying salad. The prices are high for the type of food that is being offered and our overall impression was not favourable. If you are in the area, it may be worth a try. It would not, however, be worth a cab ride to get there in my opinion. There are just so many other choices in DC."

  • "Dined at Neyla on a Saturday and was able to secure the reservation earlier in the afternoon that day. The restaurant is very dark, and the sound system loud, think crowded bar scene loud. Service was prompt and professional. I had a mint/lemonade slushy drink that was very good, a bit sweet, but good enough that I ordered another. Our dinner consisted of many of the small plates which were all acceptable. The one stand out were the lamb chops, so very tender, and perfectly spiced. There was a belly dancer performance towards the end of our meal. She was entertaining, engaging, and interacting with the diners. I would return to dine, a bit earlier in the evening to avoid the noise level."

  • "Food is bad, drinks are bad, service is bad...if you cannot find any place to eat in gtown, go home and don't eat there. Waste of money...."

  • "Both comfortable and energetic from the moment you walk in til the moment you leave. Service and food are exceptional. Chris, the manager, is absolutely the best"

  • "Good find in crowded Georgetown. Excellent service, very attentive but not pushy. Mezza choices were all excellent."

  • "Every time I've been to Neyla, it is a lovely experience. This lovely neighborhood gem is my go-to when entertaining visitors from out of town. They get a little tour of Georgetown and they are guaranteed delicious, authentic Lebanese cuisine. The wine list does not disappoint, and the cocktails are made with original recipes and infusions developed in house. The prixe fixe dinner options are great for both couples and parties of 4 or more, and offer a nice sampling of the menu hits."

  • "Neyla's never disappoints. The food quality is always top notch and consistent, authentic Lebanese. Love the ambiance and service is always good. Highly recommend for a date night, any kind of special event or someone just looking for a great meal. You will love Neyla's!"

  • "Food was good, service was good, our waiter was a bit pushy, but we had a good time with a group of 8."

  • "We were looking for an interesting restaurant to have dinner in Georgetown and read about Neyla. Very tasty food, good service, AND a belly dancer! Big surprise for us. The decor is very pretty."

  • "Almost painfully loud and scandalous; fast-food style service ~ not personal or calm and caring. Food is mediocre and the restaurant seriously overuses labneh (yogurt). Asked for a nice mint tea.... Were brought green tea. No mint tea at a Lebanese restaurant? Told the waiter we couldn't have it because it has caffeine ~ he said "I'm pretty sure it doesn't, I'll go check." Umm, we're not asking, we're telling you that green tea is loaded with caffeine!"

  • "I went to Neyla on a Monday night and I was excited to try it.! I'm a fan of Lebanese cuisine so I figured I would give the restaurant a try. The food was very good (not the best, but still tasty) and the ambiance was very Mediterranean. I will say, I went on a Monday at 730 and we were the only diners in the entire restaurant! So that was a little strange. The service was good at first and we were enjoying the meal. However, about ninety minutes into the meal, the server started rushing us out. It was just a little abrupt and unexpected, as we were the only ones there and the restaurant wasn't set to close for another hour and a half! I'd go to Neyla again, maybe on a weekend night to see what the difference is in diner attendance."

  • "I selected this restaurant because my guy and I wanted to try a Mediterranean restaurant during restaurant week. And, Neyla had pretty good reviews. The food was delicious and the service was great! I would recommend the Chicken Shish Taouk and the Jumbo Shrimp Kebab entrees. And, if you like dessert, the Baklava was also delicious. We'll definitely go back again!"

  • "We went on a Saturday night during Restaurant Week. The menu selection was limited and only fair. It was very noisy. Several big groups, but it was Saturday night during Restaurant Week. We are not likely to return."

  • "I had read a few Yelp reviews regarding the food provided by Neyla. I was excited to try it, but it wasn't as great as I had hoped. After taking our drink orders, our server returned and simply asked us if we were ready to order. He didn't mention his name, nor did he recommend anything off of the menu. Upon his return, we had decided on 6 different mezze plates that we wanted. After we ordered, the food arrived surprisingly fast which was nice. The only problem with this was that all of the dishes we ordered arrived to the table at the same time. It was somewhat overwhelming. Most tapas/mezze restaurants I've been to serve the dishes sporadically. I did enjoy the atmosphere and location."

  • "Had a great meal with friends, but the service was iffy. It was early in the evening and very few people were there (I counted 3 other tables). Our waiter was very attentive WHEN he was around. It was nearly impossible to flag down someone to order more to drink and get more pita. In fact, when we asked for more pita the man I believe to be the host rolled his eyes (!). I find that the service at the bar for happy hour is much better."

  • "I highly recommend the kibbeh neya (beef tartare) at Neyla! My friends and I come here specifically for this dish and were first introduced to it by one of our Lebanese friends. Its prepared very traditionally and its always a treat to see the waiters' expressions when you order it :) If you don't like steak tartare, the other food is very good as well. They give you a complimentary yogurt and olive plate with crispy seasoned pita bread to start and all of the pita bread is made in-house and comes out fresh and warm! Over the summer I had the sangria and it was amazing too! Overall, a great place for Lebanese food!"

  • "The only reason that we even knew of this place was because we needed somewhere arabian to have our rehearsal dinner. That was two years ago. We went again recently because we grew a little tired of Cafe Mozart. We went to Neyla, spent too much money and while it was good the prices will probably always drive me crazy. Again, good restaurant but not quite worth the cost. Unless, of course, you are too lazy to cook the food yourself. Or it's a special occasion."

  • "The waiters kept on trying to take away our plates that we asked to keep, and they made us sit next to the entrance. Other than that it was okay."

  • "We have been to Neyla a bunch of times and it never disappoints. The food is great, the ambiance nice. The service is good. It is a little more expensive than the average Lebanese restaurant but that is because it's better quality and atmosphere than most."

  • "We took a chance on this unknown Mediterranean restaurant and we loved it! Drank the recommended Lebanese wine, which was excellent. We admired the decor; somewhat exotic, romantic and mysterious, yet, trendy and lively. We were given crispy bread, Lebanese yogurt and olives. Our excellent waiter recommended the sampler, which was wonderful, with hummus, baba, grape leaves, mini chicken shwarmas, and more. There were 2 of each to share, along with wood oven pita, the best I have ever had. We only needed 1 dinner and shared the lamb chops, followed by baklava and a molten chocolate cake and coffee. This outstanding meal was followed by an entertaining belly dancer! It was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend it."

  • "I did really love my experience at Neyla except for the noise factor. The restaurant is huge thus they have a very large sound system. We didn't realize we were sitting below a speaker until the restaurant starting blasting the music. They did turn it out down slightly when we asked, but it was still unmanageable. Do visit Neyla , but if you do - look up first!"

  • "The food was so good. We got the tasting platter so we got to try things we normally wouldn't order and I'm glad we did. Our waitress was lovely- she had a great smile and was very nice (something rare in DC)."

  • "I often bring friends and colleagues visiting DC to Neyla and everyone always loves it. The food/service is great, The restaurant has a friendly and open atmosphere. The belly dancing adds to the overall flavor and the owner is very active in making certain that everyone is enjoying their experience at Neyla. And that's it-- what makes Neyla special is that it is a whole experience, not just a dinner!! But for dinner.. I love the Spanakopita with crab, the Chicken Shish Taouk, the chef's plate (served complimentary) with olives, bread, and yogurt, the Mouhammara. The mint drink, (Arabesque is the name I think) is incredible. The baklava is nice. A must go!"

  • "We went for restaurant week and were not disappointed with a single course! If calories didn't count, I could eat the balooza for every meal every day. Our server was outstandingly friendly and even slipped us a free second bottle of wine! The food came out promptly and we didn't feel rushed as we lingered for quite a while after our meal. I'd recommend it to anyone."
