Diner Reviews
  • "I went on a weeknight, so the place was not packed. The bar was nice, the bartender / owner (?) was friendly as was the staff. The food is the star of this show. The bison steak was outstanding and the real star was the apricot-basil ice cream (it is really, really good). The restaurant was neat and receives my recommendation."

  • "Food, cocktails and wine was incredibly good. But the ambiance (weird art, lighting, banquets chairs, decor) gave the feeling of dining in a Holiday Inn lobby. Make this place more visually appealing & it could be one of the best of Bethesda."

  • "EVERYTHING was fabulous! From the iced tea to the pug brittle. A tad pricey, but very good good."

  • "To find a quiet restaurant offering fine dining in Bethesda is impossible with the exception of Newton's Table. A warm welcome from Robert, attentive service and great food earns this spot all the available stars."

  • "even though it was kind of small place but very roomy inside ,nice ambiance, great food."

  • "Very expensive. Smallish portions. Soup lacked real gusto. Fish good. Pig toffee was tasty but left a residue from the prosciutto in my mouth."

  • "The decor is wonderful and the food is even better. The staff are attentive, but don't hover. Perfect place for a romantic dinner, date night or a nice night with friends."

  • "Wonderful ladies night out. Our server was excellent and made great recommendations. Another large, vibrant loud party was seated next to us. Felt like we were competing to be heard within our own group. Felt bad for couples near us."

  • "Six of us wanted a quiet table for chatting and good food, and we found it at Newton's Table. Heretofore, I had usually had their unique Fuzu, but this time several of us tried their fish... an entire Mediterranean fish, simply prepared with oil and spices. It was just about the tastiest fish dish I had had in many a year. It was perfectly cooked but imperfectly filleted. We were warned that their might be "a few pin bones," but there were lots and lots in my serving. Otherwise, the service was fine and we could talk easily. All six of us were pleased and eager to return."

  • "Do not miss the tuna appetizer or the plump mussels or the creative a d delicious salads here. The food is top-notch. I'd say the best in Bethesda right now. Great service. You actually can talk to your companions. Imaginative new entrees. This is a terrific gem."

  • "All of our food was outstanding. The mushroom ravioli was sublime, and the whole bronzino was cooked to perfection. The arugula and beet salad was excellent. The calamari was a little chewy but the sauce was great. The ruby slipper is always wonderful."

  • "We spent a nice evening catching up with visiting friends, enjoying the relaxing ambiance. We got Bouillabaisse and lobster risotto which were perfect and delicious. Service was attentive. Their desserts are fabulous, I especially enjoyed the lemon tart, which was just right: tart and not overly sweet. We'll be back to taste the rest of the menu. Newton's table food and service are one of the best I've experienced. It's a bit pricey, but it's downtown Bethesda..."

  • "I don't rate many restaurants primarily because generally if they are good overall, they don't leave an impression on me. Newton's Table was a pretty mediocre experience overall, which one would not expect given the descriptions and prices. The portion of the sea bass was not suitable for hungry people. For $35 I want to at least feel satisfied. I had to eat half my wife's filet and potatoes, and I still left hungry. I get it, good food costs money, but that's not all you're paying for. The waiter, I didn't get his name because he never gave it to us, seemed like he had been ripped from his weekly poker game to come to work. And a flowing water fountain near our table created a distracting constant buzz throughout the meal. Needs some work."

  • "Had such a great time having dinner with old friends. The food is fresh, the service is great and you will never leave disappointed."

  • "My dinner was perfect. The seasonal green salad (which sounds simple) was perfectly dressed and really delicious. The main course salmon was crunchy on the outside and served on the most delicious creamy rice and was complemented by a rich and delicious tomato puree. A bite of a chocolate dessert completed a wonderful meal. The service was excellent, the lighting was pleasant and the noise level was low so that we could actual have a conversation with our friends. Wonderful!"

  • "The tables at this restaurant are too close together. You can overhear every word of your neighbor's conversation and it's even difficult to get out from the bench seat in between the tables. Take away a table and make everyone more comfortable. It's not pleasant to feel like you are squeezed in like sardines. The food is good and the menu interesting but the table issue takes away from the whole evening."

  • "We went here for Valentine's Day, and was surprised to see that the restaurant was very understated and minimal decor. The restaurant itself is dark and smaller. We got the tuna appetizers and gougeres which were sublime. For the main course, I got the brazino and my husband got the filet mignon. The brazino was very moist but lacked flavor. The filet mignon had a coco rub that was very overpowering and the steak was not very moist. Our waiter was absent most of the night, and when we finished our meal, we sat there staring at my fish bones for a good 20 minutes before getting his attention. We decided to skip on dessert and go to the fro yo place across the street which was very good."

  • "We are foodies and have been wanting to try Newton's Table for some time. We went with another couple and within five minutes, a server, shhhhhd one person at our table. This is an example of the snooty atmosphere - which it certainly should not have. This is not Daniel in New York ….nothing even remotely close. The first courses were decent …the entree however was beyond disappointing. The noodles were over cooked and without flavor - the dish essentially tasted like noodles with mayonnaise. The gougeres are like mini biscuits, not the airy puff made in top notch French restaurants. The meal was over $400 and everyone left feeling like it was wasted money between the lackluster food, poor service and tacky decor."

  • "The food is amazing taste incredible but the portion sizes are so small you will not be full at all. It is pricey because of the presentation and taste of the food."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "I can't point to anything bad from our experience - the service was good, the food was solid, but I guess at these prices, I was looking for something to put it over the top. We'd been wanting to try this place for a while, ever since the host had gushed to us all about the local, sustainable, freshest seasonal menu once when we came in to check out the menu. I saw nothing reflecting this on the menu this time, and I wondered why not. I don't know - it just wasn't quite anything unique or memorable."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "Menu a bit short of options but largely compensated by quality of what is on offer: tasty and well presented. Wine list also short, especially on European wines. A bit pricey to permit frequent visits, so it will remain a place for special occasions, but well worth it."

  • "Looking for a new place for a high quality dinner while in Bethesda, I came upon Newton's Table and gave it a try. It was outstanding and I look forward to returning the next time I am in town. Excellent menu, fine food, great service, helpful manager (owner?), reasonable prices. I strongly recommend it."

  • "The food was terrific. Well presented, and delicious. Even though the seats were kinda close together, the ambiance was still nice because the noise level was low. Will return."

  • "Took some out of town friends. As always, food was excellent, service friendly and competent, and atmosphere intimate and pleasantly quiet. Highly recommend."

  • "This was a fun Restaurant Week location for lunch with a large group from the office. Those of us who tried the pig brittle and homemade vanilla ice cream for dessert really enjoyed it. I can also highly recommend the butternut squash soup and the short rib. Both were excellent!"

  • "Over the atmosphere is nice. That being said I took the waiters recomendation and ordered their "famous" Bison Ribeye. The steak came out medium, ordered medium rare. It was about 1/2 inch thick and slightly larger than a hockey puck. It was tough and hard to cut. Not at all what I expected when I ordered a Ribeye. To top it off I get the bill and it was $44.00?!?! In addition the drinks were 14.00 a pop. For these prices and quality I will got to Woodmont Grill (our staple for 10+ years) or even Capital Grill. We will not be returning."

  • "Didn't have anything for a kid but a high chair, restaurant week menu was very poor. 2/3 plates were noodles."

  • "Went with my children for a late lunch. The mussels and butternut squash soup were excellent. The main courses were also very good especially the noodle dish. The desserts fell a little short but overall experience was good and will definitely return."

  • "Food was excellent, only wish the short rib beef came with more sides to eat along with the beef. Will definitely be back though!"

  • "never been before. thought might be a good idea to try restaurant week. very disappointing as offered EXTREMELY limited menu. ok--many restaurants do. BUT. 3 entree options--two basically same noodle dish with slight variation. will not return."

  • "Wife and I went for Restaurant Week. Our appetizers were great. The mussels were the softest, tender mussels we've ever had and the broth was great. The butternut squash soup was great. We got the Coco Fuzu and the regular Fuzu. Coco Fuzu was good, but the sauce was too much for me and made the dish too heavy. Great taste, just too much of the sauce. Regular Fuzu was pretty good. Dessert of ice cream chocolate macadamia nut above average, Pig Brittle is a must try. Service was great. Didn't like how closely we sat next to those around us, but i understand they want to maximize space. Would consider going back again."

  • "The butternut squash soup was great. The Curry Fuzu had perfectly cooked shrimp and scallops. The pig brittle was a tad thick but tasty. The service was great and our waiter a gem."

  • "The biggest problem with Newton's Table's starters is making choices - from Nori Tuna, to Salt and Pepper Shrimp, to Beef Wontons, to Steamed Buns -- so many choices and all of them excellent. What is a diner to do? These starters are so good that the best solution is to turn dinner into tapas and enjoy multiple starters. While you'll miss the excellent main dishers (Fuzu, Mushroom Ravioli, Short Rib), you'll be rewarded with an assortment of starters that are inovative, perfectly balanced, and so delicious they will linger in your mind days after dining."

  • "My wife and I really enjoyed the food and service. Would have liked to have seen a larger selection and some better wines by the glass. Would definitely go back."
