We ordered two appetizers: (1) pear salad which was bland and had no taste; and (2) beef wonton which was acceptable. As entrees, my husband ordered a steak which was tender but had no flavor, and I ordered lobster ravioli which was acceptable. As deserts, we both ordered banana cheese cake each. I liked it but my husband did not. Overall, the food did not warrant over $150 of spending. The pear salad at $12 was definitely not worth it and the lobster ravioli in a small portion with hardly any lobster to taste was not worth $28. We will not return to this restaurant. There are many other restaurants in Bethesda for better food and better prices.

Newton's Table has been one a favorites - great food (pricey but worth it) and service, quiet; good for a special night out. This time was different. First, we struggled to get the attention of any waiter. When we did, he announced 5 new dishes on the menu and highly recommended the new lamb preparation, only to return with news they were out of the lamb. The grilled caesar salads were god-awful. Very old lettuce, over-grilled, completely tasteless dressing, and two anchovies rolled in a ball (why would you do that?). The squash soup was apparently good. Entrees were good -- scallops especially. Lobster pasta was ok, but hardly worth the price. What happened to this lovely place? Is there a new chef?

Used to be a fan. Now - New owners. Inexperienced server who overcharged by $30 for lunch for three. Prices were high to begin with. $19 for a small caesar salad and three shrimp? C'mon! Spinach and arugula with salmon served in a deep soup bowl? $14 for a flat chocolate cookie with cream on top for dessert? When we were the last one of three tables in the whole place to leave, they started blasting music. Chef? Manager? came out and said he looked at our bill and agreed we were overcharged so he brought out a new bill...after the transaction had been run through already. Server was totally not trained. Sad to remove this from my favorites list, but I will never go back.

The meal was delicious, but the appetizers were very slow coming out. They proactively addressed this issue by bringing out an additional appetizer to tide us over while we waited for what we ordered. Overall this was a good experience and I would go back again.

Have eaten there several times since it opened and always thought it excellent - the best in Bethesda. This past Friday night found it rather different. First it was barely 25% full which seemed odd. The usual charming Maitre d' was not there. The service was slow and when I mentioned to the waiter that the menu had not changed much for a long time he started arguing with me. Nevertheless the food is still very good. Was this visit an omen? The beginning of the end for NT? I hope not but it may be a bit too pricey to survive long term in Bethesda. Some new menu items would help keep fans like me coming back.

I'd been to Newton's Table some time ago and recall the food as excellent and the service as exceptional. No longer. The service is now poor. Our waiter was sullen, and seemed put out by being asked to explain dishes. Service was very slow, though Newton's wasn't that busy. It took 15 minutes just for our two glasses of wine to arrive and just about forever for food and between courses. When the food did arrive, it was so-so. The Caesar Salad looked and tasted bad, though the soup and tuna tartare were fine. The Chicken Kapow did not kapow--frankly we would've rather just had the equivalent at P.F. Changs, which would've been warm and tasted better at half the price.

I went to this restaurant for a dinner with business associates visiting from out of town. It was a Monday, and the restaurant was practically empty. That is never a good sign. Nevertheless, they were out of an entree that one of my associates wanted to order. I ordered the halibut, and it bland and boring. The waiter had told me how wonderful it was. I was disappointed to say the least. My associates seemed to like their entrees. This is a mundane restaurant. There are better choices in Bethesda. I won't visit this restaurant again.

My wife and I chose this restaurant for a anniversary dinner based off of reviews, but were surprised to see so few diners in the restaurant when we arrived. This did leave us a little concerned but we were pleasantly surprised by how wonderful the experience was. The food was very, very good, the service excellent (thanks Jason!). Any questions that we had were either answered by Jason or the Chef himself, who came to our table. We were also thanked by the Chef when we left the restaurant and were able to chat about the menu. We have already scheduled a night to come back and try the Chef's tasting menu.

Typically a chef-owned restaurant is spot on. Perhaps my expectations were too high. There is construction outside the front entrance which definitely detracts from the appearance. The waiter was very warm and friendly. The wine list was limited. We started off with a pear gorgonzola salad which was nicely presented and tasted good. My entree was the scallops, and it consisted of 3 seared scallops on a plate for $32.00. My friend had the lamb shank which fell off the bone and she said it was tasty. We split a dessert (poached apple) which was average. Overall our check was $150 for 2 people with a few glasses of wine. I am not in a hurry to return, sadly.

Pros: Friendly staff; great location in Bethesda; some interesting menu items; good food. Cons: Price. I don't mind spending money on a good meal, but almost $30 for a bowl of (admittedly tasty) ramen with a surprisingly few small chunks of shrimp and scallops is insane. For $30 I want to eat something that I can't make on my own or that contains ingredients that justify the price. The ambiance was reminiscent of a Tara Thai (complete with waterfall installation on the back wall giving off a faintly musty smell), where I could have gotten a comparable noodle dish for half the price. Kapow chicken was also good, but again, nothing that I couldn't have gotten cheaper elsewhere.

We walked in for an 8:30 dinner booking. The restaurant was nearly empty and there was no one to receive us. Except for the scallops the food was ordinary and not worthy of the four star rating Open table gives it. The duck wonton appetizer was dry and felt like it had been standing around for a while. While the service was prompt, We have had much better experience a year or two ago, so this was disappointing.

Will not go back. Went there on a Wed night for a first date and they were out of everything we wanted and the place was basically empty. Waiter told us the steaks were sold out because of one table in the back who ordered steaks. Other things were also not available on what is already a very small menu. The drinks were great. The environment is nice and quite but the place needs some serious art work as its dull, drab and boring.

The waiter noted that a new sous chef had modified the menu. It was not very good. We shared the shrimp appetizer which should have been sent back. The tuna tasted like it was frozen and was barely eatable. It had no flavor other than cracked pepper and the chef does not appear to know the definition of rare. The scallops had almost no flavor at all and also seemed to have been frozen. Our previous experience was good, this time, not so much. The dinner for two was over $120. Definitely not worth the price!

Newton's Table is simply stated the best restaurant in Bethesda. Their change to the Newton's Noodle menu at lunch was brilliant - Great food at a great price. Not only are the noodles delicious but the tuna bites and Kapow chicken are also great. The dinner menu has changed recently and some of the additions are even better than before. The duck wontons (my favorite), the tuna tartar, fried green tomato BLT , and the truck patch salad (that has returned to the menu) were all great. The entrees were all delicious as well - duck, fuzu noodles, tuna and tortelloni. We ended with 3 desserts - my favorite, the chocolate crunch, my son's favorite, the pig brittle, and a new dessert - pecan bread pudding. And the service was perfect!

We arrived early on a sleepy August Friday and were the only people in the restaurant. The service was very attentive and the server chatty about the food but not in a disruptive way. We had four small plates which was just a little less than we needed so we treated ourselves with dessert. The food was inventive and fresh without being over the top. I particularly liked the corn chowder with a generous helping of crabmeat. The firecracker shrimp was also particularly tasty. We will be going back and I hope the emptiness is not a sign of a problem!

After our second trip, this wonderful, quiet little place has made it to our "favorites" list. Everything we ate was special. The waiter and Maitre d' remembered us from our prior visit - months ago - and we were treated like friends. The portions are perfectly sized, but taste so good you really want more. We planned to go back for dessert but got out of the theater too late so that's another trip we have to make. We are worried that it is not busy enough to make it so, please, go...often.

With a 7:30 Friday night reservation, you don't expect the first greeting after "Good evening," to be, "We're out of Bronzino, but you should try one of our two other new fish dishes on our menu." Then, they didn't have Campari and the waiter said, "We don't have a bread service" when one in the party asked for bread, and yet, there was bread for the mussels which one of us ordered later. The Nori tuna is still the star and the wontons were very good, but the mushroom ravioli sauce was off and the mussels were the tiniest, least meaty mussels I've ever eaten.

On a Sunday at 6:00pm the restaurant was quiet. No one in the bar and only three tables were being used. The service was excellent but the food was okay. The wine list was very slim because they ran out several wine selections over the weekend. The steak was served super rare (ordered medium) and we only got 3 scallops in the scallop entree. We liked the tuna appetizer. We probably won't go back. It was expensive for okay ambiance and food.

Great diinner. Our party of 4 had appetizers, entrees and split 3 desserts. The appetizers were: short rib risotto, parmesan fries, market salad and one more. The fries were great. The risotto was prefectly prepared. There were no complaints about any dish the entire evening. The entrees were fuzu (2), bison ribeye with a raspberry sauce and salmon. Three of the plates were completely cleared and the one that wasn't was doggy-bagged. The desserts were pig brittle, chocolate crunch and a linzer cake. All three were incredible. I brought a bottle of wine and the corkage fee was $15, which is incredibly reasonable. Our waiter was Chris. He was knowledgeable and the service was great. This is one of the best restaurants in Bethesda.

I have dined in Bethesda numerous times, and unexpectedly discovered Newton's Table. My colleagues and i dine at this restaurant last week, and thoroughly enjoyed our food, the service and ambience. I enjoyed my rockfish dinner. The fish was very freshc and well prepared, and the accompanying veggies were a delight. My colleagues had the bronzino, and the kitchen filled the whole fish for them. They thought the fish was very fresh and tasty. We started with appetizers of tuna and gala apple, arugal and yellow beet salad, which were both delicious. The service was attentive and efficient. We will definitely be returning to try some of the other entrees.
