  • "Went on a holiday (Memorial Day). Place was dead but staff was very attentive. No live lobster available since it was a holiday and they didn't get a delivery. I had the hazelnut crusted Halibut which was FANTASTIC!!! Light, flaky, and melt in your mouth. The green beans were good and the potato cake was good, if you like that sort of thing (breaded with some kind of cheesy filling). My date had the Scampi Style Linguini with Shrimp. While the dish was good, the flavor was very overpowering with strong flavors of salt and citrus. If the flavor had been about 1/3 of what it was then the dish would have been great. Noodles and shrimp were done well. Overall a good choice, I would come back (I want more of that halibut! :) )"

  • "We have dined at Newport Bay for many years now, and it has historically been one of our favorites. Somehow this location has really seemed to slip. The decor is definitely 'Grandma's Table' so we've lately done just that... only taken our 86 year old parents there for dinners. It's usually been OK for that. But we decided to treat Mom to Mother's Day dinner there Sunday and it was pretty disappointing. Our reservations were at 5:30 and we were seated promptly (star for that). But the waiter dithered around saying he'd be 'right back' and 'food was on the way' and so on until our dinners arrived at 6:30. The food was barely luke warm. It clearly had been sitting out for some time. It might have been good when it was piping hot. "

  • "We had reservations for eight people, and were seated promptly. Everything was fresh and tasty, and nicely presented. The buffet does not include as large a variety as other local brunches, but the price is more reasonable too. Besides the usual breakfast items, there was a beautiful tray of grilled veggies (asparagus, zucchini, tomatoes) that was a nice addition. Service was excellent. Coffee and water were refilled often, and the wait staff was attentive. We were all happy with the experience."

  • "Decided to try Newport Bay because we had a gift card. While we enjoyed the food, the portions were pretty small. We joked that we would have to go to another restaurant to have a second course to fill us up. I had the oyster shooters as an appetizer, but one of the oysters was incredibly small; like 1/4 the size of the others. My wife ordered a side salad, which was pretty large; though her steak with the surf and turf was super tiny. She decided to go with prawns instead of the steal head, and only received 4 small shrimp sized prawns. I ordered the Cajun steal head and it was delicious but again, the portion of green beans and potato cakes(fantastic) was not a dinner size serving. The server was friendly but not very attentive."

  • "Although busy, there was no waiting for seating. Atmosphere is quiet and refined, with soft music. Decor is conservative, carpet, white wainscoting and art on the wall. Tables are dark wood, no tablecloths, and large fabric napkins. Service is prompt, friendly and professional. A short list of draft beers includes 3 or 4 local brews. Menu includes a few chicken, steak, and pork options but focuses on fresh seafood. Salad is fresh, dressing is on the side and tasty. Soups are very good, perhaps a bit salty. Dinner is well-presented, well-prepared and very good. Portion size is plenty for a meal, but not so much that you'll need a take-home container. Overall, this is a relaxing, enjoyable evening meal."

  • "My husband, my two daughters, and me were at Tanasbourne Newport Bay at 5:40 for dinner and the place was pretty empty, we ordered clam chowders, pan fried razor clam, seafood fettuccine, fish and chip and deep fried oysters. The clam chowder were so salty that left salt on your lips after drinking water, we could not eat it so the waitress took that off our bills, they forgot to make my deep fried oysters so they comp me with house salad while I was waiting and watching my family eat ( I am the slowest eater in the family). All our foods were very greasy - I am disappointed that this place went down hill, it used to be very good but not any more."

  • "Visiting Portland for the Valentine Weekend, and decided to try a local gem, according to Open Table. Made reservations a week before. Got lost, traffic terrible, late by 20 min for reservation, but maite'd able to find us a spot in the bar. She was great. Busy night for all the servers, but we were able to get our soup and steamed clams, and drinks rather rather quickly. But our server Aleaxandra made the mistake of not putting in our entree order. Why?? We got the entrees for the table next to us, who came in 20 minutes later!! She put the order in finally, but never acknowledged it to us, apologized for the delay, or anything. Poor style & service. Luckily, all the food was delicious-- surf n turf, and salmon. Don't go on 2/14"

  • "My husband and I both enjoyed the special Steelhead Dinner. The fish was fabulous - moist, tender - delicious! I would like to suggest that the chef offer vegetables without the heavy garlic. I like spinach, but was unable to eat it due to the garlic bits. The green beans had garlic as well. Otherwise, it was an enjoyable meal."

  • "Normally, I like Newport Bay. In the past, their fish & chips was one of the best in town. We went on a Thursday for the special for $6.95. It was so salty I couldn't eat it. Same for the chips. It's off my list for favorites for fish and chips. Our waiter was good but the food took waaaaay to long to come out for the amount of people in the restaurant at the time. Probably out getting more salt for the fish and chips!"

  • "The interior is a little 'tired', but the food is amazing. I would not say the appetizers or salads are very creative. But the main dish seafood courses are some of the best around, at reasonable prices. We chose this because it had good accessibility for my mother-in-law who uses a walker. The reservation was ready at exactly the time we set. Very convenient. Thanks Open Table!"

Now that they are part of the Portland Fish Market Restaurant group, the menu is so limited and for people on a diet (Weight Watchers) there really isn't much that I can order. Still like the fish and chips. Just had a salad and then added shrimp to it. Good place to visit, but I do miss the old Newport Bay Restaurant. The new one is more like a dine and dash place. With they had more specials and more food choices."

  • "I made a reservation for 1800 during my son's graduation. We got to Newport Bay at about 1715. There was no wait, no hassle. Our party of 8 was seated and ordering apps in about 5 minutes. I'm not a fish eater so I was pleasantly surprised with both the Calamari and Popcorn Shrimp appetizers. My fish and chips wasn't up to my expectations, but, my idea of fish and chips river-caught channel catfish rolled in cornmeal and boiled in oil. All in the party thought the food was very good, the service was excellent and the ambiance good. We will be going back!"

  • "Wanting a good Pacific Northwest restaurant that served fish in Hillsboro, Oregon, we chose Newport Bay Tanasbourne. We all enjoyed our meals, fast and efficient service, and the ability to visit as long as we wished without being shooed out. The Alaskan salmon was perfect, and everyone commented on the green beans, which were cooked perfectly. We will definitely return."

  • "I took my wife and kids (two boys 4 years and under) to Newport Bay for their Mother's Day brunch. Brunch is the only meal that I will accept buffet style, I but I had no concerns here. The food was fresh and changed often. The salmon with strawberry cucumber salsa was particularly nice. My wife and I and I both loved the hazelnut encrusted French toast. The restaurant staff struggled to supply the demand of my 2-year-old's all-you-can-eat bacon experience, but this is more of a personal problem. We'd definitely consider coming back next year."
