  • "We went to New Yorker for the first time as a dinner date prior to going to see Wicked. We were very impressed - with both the food and the service. We ended up arriving late for our reservation due to a bad accident on the freeway. We called ahead and they said not to worry about it. When we arrived, they seated us right away and made sure our server knew we were attending Wicked and were running late so they could expedite our food. Heidi was amazing - fun, great recommendations, very attentive to getting us our food in a timely manner and getting us out to the show. Our food was excellent too. They had a Wicked pre-fixe menu we both enjoyed very much. To top it off, they also had a complimentary shuttle to and from the show. Excellent!"

  • "Nice restaurant but lacks any serious ambiance. Food was good but nothing as I expected from pictures and reviews. If you have a lot of money and need a place to eat, this fits the bill. If you want a lot more bang for your buck in upscale dining, try elsewhere."

  • "The New Yorker used to be exceptional, and the service continues to be excellent. Our food was fine (though not hot enough), though our orders were switched - my wife's steak was too done and my was not done enough. The atmosphere, however, was disturbing, since we witnessed five couples in shorts and sandals/tennis shoes (one gentlement in workout shorts and a baseball cap, and one women in cut-off jeans), attire that never would have been acceptable even a few years ago. Although we understand that The New Yorker may be reluctant to turn paying customers away, the overall brand continues to be damaged by the lax standards, which, unfotunately, also will drive us elsewhere for fine dining experiences too."

  • "My daughter and I enjoyed a very nice meal before seeing Wicked in Salt Lake. The martinis were excellent. The seafood stew was chock full of mussels, shrimp, and crab. The service was excellent thanks to Tiffiny and the others."

  • "Saw a pleasing review in the SLC Monthly, gave the place a shot without really assessing the menu or prices. Boy did I look like a hero to my wife when she saw the place. Cool location down tucked below a seafood bar, had to call to find it. The lounge area looked so fancy I thought for sure the bill would be triple digits but I couldn't have been more surprised when I opened the menu: Surprisingly original choices for very reasonable prices. Two entrees and one appetizer for $35 or so (at lunch time), and for the delicious food I would have paid more. We will be coming back soon."

  • "The dining room was reminiscent other the 1980's. The waitress treated us like children leaning over and talking down. The filet which is more expensive than Ruth Chris or Fleming came out well done instead of mid rare the first time andoing twenty minutes later after they remade the same poorly cooked meal.they offered a free desert. I will not return..."

  • "The food and atmosphere were outstanding....the service - not so much. I have eatern here several times and the service is always phenomenal, but the waiter we got this time just didn't get it. He was a little slow, a little uninterested, a little bit not amused. Didn't feel the usual welcome that seems to be there at the New Yorker. The food was amazing though....the chef always does such a great job! All the other staff were very attentive and personable."

  • "We celebrated our anniversary. My wife has celiac and requires gluten free dining options. We are always nervous to try a new restaurant. We asked our server for a gluten free menu and she immediately put us at ease saying that the kitchen would gladly modify anything they could to make it gluten free. They even had gluten free bread. The service was excellent. The booths are romantic and provide a sense of privacy. The food was delicious, refined, and interesting. It is a little pricey even for a pricey restaurant. But for a special occasion and for the gluten free experience we didn't feel we had to overpay."

  • "My wife and I decided to try The New Yorker this past week, and our meal was absolutely fantastic. We started with the coconut-panko encrusted crab cake, followed with a couple of salads, then the filet mignon medallions and the lobster tail, finishing with a creme brulee and New York style cheesecake. The filet mignon was prepared perfectly and was melt-in-your mouth. Our server, while very attentive, didn't make us feel very welcome. She became visibly annoyed when my wife told her she didn't want to order a beverage besides water. The server at the table next to us was the exact opposite. She obviously likes her job and went out of her way to make her guests feel at home. The manager stopped by several times to check on us."

  • "I have not been to The New Yorker in at least half a decade. What I remember from the ambiance has remained as timeless and classy as it always has been. The service was mostly quick and on par with what you would expect from a fine dinning establishment. Its the food and presentation that seem a bit dated. I had the lamb, and while cooked to perfection was not the award winning meal they claimed it to be. The chicken liver pate was good, but I was half tempted to skip the liver and only use the delicious huckleberry sauce it was served with. My date had the steak, which was expertly cooked to the right temperature, but lacking synergy with the sides. Like I said before the plates presentation is now dated, and not particularly impressive."

Everyone from the Valet Attendant to our waitress were very friendly and professional. The decor and ambiance were comfortable and beautiful! The foodie in the group was very impressed with the food.   • "And that's too bad. The New Yorker is no longer the fine dining experience that it once was. Food is okay, but no great shakes. Menu is a laminated card with so so selections. Wine list is also so so. Food and wine prices are all a bit too high... A Manhattan that costs in excess of $11.00 in a state where the drink doesn't even come up half way in the martini glass, is a bit excessive. Noise has always been a bit problematic, and the lower level cafe area has never helped with that problem. Wait staff who leave dirty plates and half eaten dishes along side tables really detract from the dining atmosphere. Not really a place I plan on going back to. It is no longer a classy place with unique dishes and notable wine list. Too bad."

  • "Overall the food was good and service was good, but for the price and reputation of the restaurant there really wasn't anything special about it. The steak and appetizers were pretty good, but the chicken and lobster were way over cooked and for the price of these meals it should be expected that all the food be cooked completely perfect. The service was very friendly and helpful, but getting the food took much too long; 30 minutes after the appetizers."

  • "I have lost track how many times I've dined at the New Yorker and it is still a fine place. Despite the decades of prominence you can always count on some clever new offerings and the staff is always the epitome of class and grace and helpful as well. If you are going for the first time try the French Onion soup to start and the creme brulé to end and something wonderful in between. I had the Rigatoni with Wild Boar (how's that for creative). They do have a private room for top level meetings. If you are a serious foodie and live in SLC or near, the New Yorker is an absolute must."

  • "This was definitely a sub par experience. Very expensive for poor flavor. Seafood pasta was bland and over cooked. Lobster over cooked. My wife's salmon was poorly seasoned and over cooked (I'm sensing a theme). Service was terrible. No attention from server after taking order. Evidently he paid more attention to a larger party that came in after us. An apology from the manager for this came too late as we needed to get off to our concert. Would not come here again."

The food was good except my rib-eye steak was really tough and not editable. Everything else we had was incredible. I have been before and always enjoyed the food."

In my opinion it is the best of the Gastronomy Restaurants, and is a place not to be overlooked. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was robust and active but still felt private.
