  • We were actually disappointed

We were actually disappointed with New York Prime. When we walked through the first set of doors, the smoke from the bar was overwhelming. The bar allows cigarette and cigar smoke, which may be a plus for some, but is not for us. I will say that the service is excellent and everyone is very friendly. My father had the oysters rockefeller and said they were outstanding, but the salads, steaks and sides we had were all average. You get a much better steak at Morton's, McKendricks and even Wildfire. This is definitely not a place for children! It is more like a good place to come to drink and smoke after work. Overall, we give it a fair rating.

My husband and I went for his 34th birthday. We made reservations through Open Table but we were late, being that we have a newborn son. The staff was more than accomodating and made us feel very welcome regardless. Our waiter Ted was absolutely wonderful. The food was soooo good. We didn't have any complaints at all.

Had trouble finding the host station. Smaller selection of beef than expected, for example did not see prime rib on the menu. Service exceptional. Prices higher than expected. Hard to hear dining companion over the noise. Smelled cigar smoke while eating. Unlikely to return.

Disappointing. We were entirely underwhelmed by the dining experience at NY Prime. The service was only so-so. The noise level was very high. This was a birthday dinner of which I made a special note to the maitre'd when I made the reservation. But there were no birthday wishes extended by the maitre'd. Not even a birthday cupcake. In fact, we weren't even shown the dessert cart. The meat entrees were less than staisfactory - my lamb chops were not prpeared as requested (I ordered well-done but got medium/pink and charred on the outside). The one good comment - the cheesy baked potatoes, and the corn, VERY good. Overall, I DO NOT recommend.

The food was good. I was unaware that they still allowed smoking. (The last time we were there I don't remember people smoking.) Since I am bothered (allergies) by smoke it did effect my feeling on the atmosphere. The food was good and the service was excellent in the bar and restaurant. I enjoyed the music.

The only thing that distracted from an outstanding meal and excellent, attentive service was an ill advised musical act at the bar. I'm not a steak person, but this was the best I have ever had in Atlanta (better than Bones & Chops, though not as well known).

Food and service is the reason why we always go back to NY Prime. Their steaks are always great. Shrimp cocktail and caesar salad is fantastic. Deserts are nothing to write home about but it's the standard upscale steakhouse desserts. The only thing I can think why people might not like this place is because of the cigar smoke and loud atmosphere.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2003VIP
    Dined on 10/3/2008
Personally, I am not a fan of the "preparation" of the steaks. I make the distinction of "preparation", because the food itself is wonderful. All top quality foods and a great menu. They char the outside at 1700 degrees and that blackens the meat a little more than I like. I love a good steak but not as charred as they do it (this is the 2nd time going there and its been the same both times, so I know that it just wasn't that day). I've been to tons of great steak houses and its just a matter of preference.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2006

NY Prime was recommended by a friend of mine so I thought it would be a good place to take my clients. The first thing that we noticed when we walked in was the strong smell of cigar smoke. Once we passed the bar with the smoke, we were seated too close to the bar (even though I had requested in my reservation to be as far as possible from any smoking section). Once moved, it was more enjoyable. My steak was perfect;however my client felt that hers was too black on the outside and too rare on the inside. The cheese mashed potatoes were exceptional as was the white choc. banana pie. Overall great if you don't mind the smell of cigar while you dine. I would choose Ruth Chris over this place due to the smoke. The food quality is the same.

The restaurant was very loud. Their was non-stop music coming from the one man band at the bar which is part of the dining room. So everyone at the place had to yell at each other to hear over "Jerimiah was a bullfrog" making the room even noisier. For some reason there was a large bar crowd - adding to the excruciating noise level. When you walk in th e door, you will be hit with the overwhelming stink of cigarette smoke coming from the bar which dominates the restaurant. The food was okay - but very expensive. With all of the restaurants in Atlanta there is no reason ever to go back to this place.
