Diner Reviews
  • "Farm to fork fresh ingredients truly make this place special. I had the chicken and waffles; the dish washer could have mistaken my plate for clean. I can't wait to try the pork chops and the shrimp & grits."

  • "Five of us....everyone raved about the food. Service was very good. Serves craft beer and for those under age.....Cheerwine! We will be back...great spot..."

  • "Regional influence present; however, it is subtle in both ingredients and cooking style. Salad of local greens with toasted pumpkin seeds and light viniegrette was one of the best salads ever. Main was good but a bit dizzy with ingredients, which kept me guessing. Interesting menu, we can't wait to go back for more!"

  • "The service was great. I had the shrimp and grits. It was good, not too rich, but a little salty. My friend had the flounder and loved it. The Caesar salad was good but way too much of it. Would have liked a smaller side salad."

  • "The food was very tasty. Service was attentive. I was pleasantly surprised that the food was not greasy like some southern foods can be. If you are a vegetarian there are many choices for you."

  • "We love New South Kitchen! Great farm to table restaurant with an excellent menu of small plates and entrees. Try the trout dip to start. Nice wine menu, too; not overwhelming but a selection of good wines."

  • "The food was good , but on the high end price wise for meatloaf and turkey dinners. The service was a bit slow but we were not in a hurry."

  • "Food was excellent and all locally sourced. I had the special of mustard encrusted tilefish. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. The cheese selection was also good, particularly the white cheddar. Service was excellent. Very knowledgeable about the offerings. Will definitely go back."

  • "My girlfriend and I had a late reservation for valentines day and we both were pleasantly surprised with our meals. We started with pulled pork egg rolls which were tasty, the sauce made it even better. For our main course we had the short ribs and pan fried chicken. We enjoyed them so much we had to share our meals. This is great tasting southern food. The only thing we didn't care for was the mac n cheese. They used penne pasta and the cheese was scarce. Service was slow but it was busy. We are definite coming back."

  • "This is my second trip here think the first time was a one off situation. Bad table twice. The first time was told to make reservations for a better table. Did... Got the same table...The very same table. I don't think I can go back."

  • "We have been to Sunday Brunch here many times. On 2/9 11:15 reservation it had not gotten busy yet so service should have not been slow. We took our time to choose food since it was a different menu since our last visit. Once we ordered, two egg dishes, nothing out of the ordinary, it took more than 20 minutes for the food to come out. It was barely warm, but not as hot as if it had been served immediately after coming off the flat top . I am disappointed in the time it took to get our food as I saw other tables getting their food quicker that came in after we did. Took too long to process our payment as well. One more round like this and we will try Le Peep next door."

  • "The food along with the service has always been very good to excellent. Our one note is that the drinks, in particular the martini drinks listed are a rather small pour for the cost. An ounce or two more please!"

  • "Stone Mountain Grill had great food and service. However, the noise level was extremely high. We could barely hear each other talk during our dinner."

  • "My first time here, and during restaurant week. My wife and I decided to try this place and I went to OpenTable to check availability at 6pm on a saturday night. Couldn't believe they had an 8:00pm reservation available, which I made. When we arrived, the people at the desk said they had our reservation but the reservation system had a glitch and the 8pm slot was already filled but they would work us in. They, Renee & Dillon, (I think) were very nice to accommodate us. But 35 min went by, and the hostess said the manager will buy us a drink for the waiting time. Five minutes later, we were seated at a great table. The waitress was great and the food was wonderful. We will be back and recommend New South restaurant , thanks to Renee."

  • "Menu has unusual choices of vegetables and combinations. Beets were delicious, and the fondue of goats cheese with leeks. Chicken and shrimp were well cooked, presented beautifully and very tasty. Ambience is rather limited."

  • "We tried this place randomly for restaurant week. The pulled pork spring rolls are delicious. The trout and brussel sprouts were seasoned perfectly. I would go again."

  • "This was my first time dining at New South Kitchen & Bar. The variety of the menu gave something for everyone. All of our appetizers, entrees, and desserts were tasteful and well presented. If you are across town, the drive is worth the trip. If you are in the area, this is a suggestion for a regular dining experience."

  • "I didn't know what to expect before entering the restaurant in terms of ambiance. I thought it might be dark and formal, but in fact it is well-lit , between upscale and casual. The food, however, was quite good. We tried the fried green tomatoes, the pulled pork spring rolls, braised short ribs, shrimp and grits, pan fried chicken, roasted chicken penne, and mac & cheeese. Everyone shared and enjoyed all of these dishes. The fried blueberry pie desert looks like a cornish pastie but is quite tasty with vanilla ice cream. Our server seemed a little inexperienced and wasn't very personable, but he did not mess anything up,was reasonably attentive, and ultimately was neither a positive or negative factor in our experience. We will go back!."

  • "The food was very good. We ordered the Oyster stew, it was surprising. It was really a brush of stew with 4 - 5 oysters. Tasty but not what we would call soup or stew. Pork and Fish were very good. Would certainly go back again!"

  • "Excellent selection for Queen's Feast. The glass of wine offering was a good choice and selections of pork loin, trout, and meat loaf from members of our party were excellent. Thanks, New South"

  • "As one might expect from the name of the place, NSK&B serves great southern style food at a good price. I went during restaurant week during the 3 courses for $30 deal with my fiance and we shared most of the food. The food fills you up quickly and is delicious so come wearing pants that are on the forgiving side. Their potato salad with poached egg is fantastic and their pimento cheese appetizer is very good too."

  • "A gem for Southern-style food with locally sourced ingredients. Our party loved the appetizers - oyster stew, pork spring rolls and the green fried tomatoes. The entrees were equally as delicious and the desserts did not disappoint. Service was very good and the time between courses was leisurely with time for conversation and lingering over coffee. We would go again."

  • "I've eaten at so many restaurants, but this by far is the best meal I've ever had. The waitress said that the chef is good, but that was an understatement. Everything was seasoned perfectly and was not salty at all. I had the trout with the roasted Brussels sprouts, which were to die for. My husband had the pork and it was so tender and perfectly cooked. He cleaned his plate. The pork spring rolls and fried green tomatoes were also delicious. The spring rolls are so unique tasting. The sauce that comes with them just complement the rolls so well. The banana desert with the light and fluffy cake was mouth watering and I couldn't get enough. I liked the bread pudding but it was a little dry and lumpy for my taste, but still good. Great food!"

  • "New South is a fairly small restaurant but each time I have been there- with reservations- we have been sat in a server's section who has been a little scattered and not as attentive as I would like, regardless of how crowded it was. This the 2nd time I have had this particular waiter and he is not very good. We sat for several minutes and no one came to the table. I noticed people that were seated after us in another sections had been greeted. I asked a staff person where our server was and he finally came. All night long he was slow to bring things, wine, bread, water. He doesn't know how to multi task, Next time I might just sit in the bar or try another restaurant all together."

  • "Loved the Grilled Romaine Salad. Great flavor! The Grilled Chicken Sandwich is a favorite. The Burger with pimento cheese is a great southern twist. Don't miss the sweet potato side. It was fantastic!!"

  • "We tried several items on the menu and found that everything was good. At the top of the list were the pork belly sliders. They were incredible. Some items were under seasoned but after adding a touch of salt were better. I prefer my food to come out piping hot, which was not the case, but not cold by any means. Drinks, appetizers, main courses and desserts all were good. We cleaned our plates and would return."

  • "We went to New South Kitchen for my parent's 39th wedding anniversary. It was delightful! I was impressed with the food, ambiance and service. I have an egg allergy, and the waiter was very knowledgable about the food that contained eggs (which can be a rare). We had a great family dinner. Highly recommend!!"

  • "We wanted to repay friends for their generosity and decided New South was conveniently located for both of us and the tastes of each of us is different. I always get the shrimp and grits, which is the best I've had in North and South Carolina."

  • "Food is always exceptional. Service started out great but then the server forgot us. He was there but never stopped by to check on things. I thought I would never get my check. But again the food was over the top."

  • "This was my husband and I first time dining with New South Kitchen . We had heard of and seen it before but it was a gift card for Christmas that pulled us in for dinner. The atmosphere was quiet and wonderful. I loved the low lighting and the ambiance. The service was wonderful! And most importantly the food was absolutely amazing!! I loved the way it was elegantly displayed and it was just the right amount of food..not too much, not too little. We even had room for dessert which was equally amazing! My husband ordered the crab cakes and I had the pork loin, for dessert we had the chocolate mousse cake and the apple Charlotte. This is definitely a place we will not only recommend to friends but that we will be coming back to very soon!"

  • "This was our 3rd dinner at New South, and we have a perfect batting average! Food and service has been excellent all three times. On this visit I had the roast pork with yams and smothered cabbage. The pork was as large as a good sized filet mignon and very tender. The two side vegetables were wonderful. Will we be back? Absolutely, no question about it!"

  • "I was glad to be in a restaurant where the atmosphere was calm and relaxed, no children running around and a relaxed but attentive waitstaff. The food was not good though. I am not sure if I would return to try their regular menu, but the Thanksgiving buffet left much to be desired. Many items were overly seasoned with rosemary, thyme, etc. The stuffing was so salty my husband and mother wouldn't eat it. The apple crisp tasted like lemon (I can only assume the apples were cut and prepped the night before and doused in lemon juice to keep from browning?) I was disappointed overall as I had wanted to try this restaurant for some time."

  • "For Thanksgiving, this was a buffet, so very different from normal dining at New South Kitchen. Great Food, Fabulous desserts, great service. Definitely requires reservations in advance!"
