  • Where's the meat?

There was very little meat on our 3 lb lobster and the whole fried catfish was a baby. Flavors were good but there should have been a lot more meat for the prices they charge.

My wife and I love the New Port Seafood in Alhambra, so I thought we should try their new location for her birthday and it did not disappoint. Only, the most popular items from their SGV home made it westward, but that's exactly what we went for: the lobster, the clams and steak. However, we didn't stop there. Their soups were delicious as was chicken. I see other people haven't been quite as fortunate with their experience. They should give it another chance. They hit it out of the park for us!

Finally good Chinese on the Westside. They specialize in seafood, but have beef and chicken dishes that are just as good. A bit pricey, but the tradeoff is not having to drive out to the original San Gabriel location.

Finally great Chinese food in Beverly Hills! Theyve just opened for dinner so it was quiet the night I was there. I will go as often as I can get friends to go. Their special beef was amazing along with the minced chicken. My only regret is that I only had one friend with me the night I was there so we couldn't order everything I wanted to taste. Go with a group so you can sample through the menu.

A colleague and I decided to try New Port Seafood for lunch. The lunch menu was small and the standard dishes were about $5.00 less than the same items on the dinner menu. We had a spicy sauteed fish that was really nothing special, and then we opted to go for it and try the house special lobster. I can't compare it to the SGV location, but I found it to be rather lacking in substantial sections of meat for the price ($71!!!). One of the claws was clearly missing most of the meat. It was messy and very hard to eat. For all the hype, it was not worth it. I ended up canceling a dinner reservation for the following week after the disappointing lunch. The only truly positive thing was the attentive service, but the place was also empty.

I read the reviews about the other locations for this restaurant. Decided to take a chance and host my birthday party New Port Seafood, Beverly Hills. All of my guest were impressed with the entire dining experience, especially the delicious food. I will plan to return in the near future.

With so little good Chinese food on the westside, this is much needed. Food was actually a combination of Chinese and Vietnamese and was tasty . The claim to fame of Newport Seafood in OC was the house special lobster-- 4-5 lbs , with a sauce of garlic, scallions, etc In Bev Hills, it was very good but price was outrageous ---$26 per lb --- at a time when lobster prices are down to $10 at Santa Monica Seafood , Their version of Shaky Shaky beef was very good, i might eat here again but would not order the lobster

Lots of expectations, based on how much we love the Alhambra branch. The quality of the food is pretty close to par with the original. Service was very good, although we felt they were pushing higher priced items on us. Ambience is nice, if not a little corporate. Prices are 20-50% higher than the SGV version. And parking is confusing, as the elevator from the garage does not go up to the restaurant, so you have to walk around, up the ramp to get there. Good Chinese for westside, but for great, I'd still go to the original

The lobster dish was amazing. All the sauces were great. Not a huge menu, which was the biggest negative. The best Chinese on the West Side

  • What's all the fuss about?!
    OpenTable Diner Since 2006
    Dined on 9/5/2014
I thought the food was remarkably average - consistency was off on all the dishes. Noodles were soggy, Kung pao chicken had too much sauce, and the rest was forgettable. We didn't order the lobster special, so in their defense maybe this is the only reason to come? It also seemed as though our waitress was terribly inexperienced and in the weeds. Who has ever been to a Chinese restaurant and didn't have your water refilled quickly?!

Came here with husband another couple for dinner. Heard so much about the lobster and wanted to give it a try. The only size they had left was 4.5lbs which was too large (unless we wanted leftovers) and at market price seemed like not such a great option. Then we asked for the dungenous crab. Nope! They ran out. WTH! It was on 7:30pm!!! When the host came to the table to find out about our experience thus far, we brought it up. Unfortunately, he had no real apology and quickly shuffled away from our table. However, he did come back to the table, and asked if my husband wanted another beer, suggested "the best beer ever" and personally brought it to the table. What do you know, the charge for the beer was on the check: $18. REALLY???

Unfortunately, we did not get to sample the food. It was a busy Friday night; we were seated at a table for two and offered still or sparkling water no fewer than three times, a bad sign in our book. Being very hungry, we quickly agreed on our meals and ordered soon thereafter. Alas, we waited for a very long time for our appetizer of lobster egg roll and in fact never saw the thing. Let me just say that we spent 50 minutes waiting for our appetizer, and then the waitress brought out a "free dessert" since we had waited so long and said our lobster roll would be about another 10 minutes. We were starving and by now deeply dissatisfied with the place. Dessert? Really? We left the restaurant.

It is so exciting that New Port Seafood has opened an outpost in Beverly Hills. It is a little noisy and the menu is smaller than San Gabriel but it is still delicious. I hope the menu can be expanded over time yo at least include duck dishes.

However the restaurant was very gracious about poor service and comp'd our meal. I wish i liked the food as i'd like to thank them by returning. This restaurant does not hold a candle to the Chinese restaurants in the San Gabriel Valley

We were pretty hungry, ordered our food promptly, and 30 minutes later the waitperson informed us that they were out of the appetizer we ordered. The dining room is loud and, while it's nicely decorated, the lighting was too bright. Felt more like a cafeteria than a restaurant.
