For our first time in New York, we chose to celebrate a birthday at Neta. We had a reservation and our table was prepared for us by out reservation time. Menu had a great selection and if we were uncertain about an item, our server was quick to explain. Our food was delicious and service was great!

I went on a Sunday at 8:00 with a party of 3. There were only about 7 or 8 other people in the place but the hostess tried to seat us at the sushi bar in the back by the bathroom where the air conditioner was blowing on the seats. When we asked if we could be moved, she offered to lower the air conditioner fan instead. When we insisted in moving, she reluctantly bumped us two places down the sushi bar even though there were plenty of tables near the front that stayed empty during our entire stay, till about 9:30. The food was good but being squeezed into the back of an empty restaurant after asking to move really affected the experience. I don't know why hostesses do this when the place is not full.

The fish here was the freshest I have ever eaten. The sushi was done just how I like it - cut thin and without tons of rice. Melt in your mouth. We sat on the sushi bar. Neta was not a romantic place or one of those in loud places but does have great sushi and very nice staff. Will be back!

PROS: Having lived in Japan for a long time I really appreciate Japanese restaurants abroad that have truly amazing quality sashimi. The is one. The menu is also incredibly creative, yet still with a sensitivity to the delicateness of Japanese flavors and preparation. The menu changes seasonally and was incredibly summer appropriate when we dined there this week. CONS: Painfully, awkwardly over-attentive service. At this price point I really expect more. The staff had all my most disliked habits - trying to take your cocktails away when there are clearly two sips still in the glass, refilling your water when it is only 1/2 inch from the top - you KNOW they are doing this just to get you to buy more of their overpriced bottled water, etc.

We ate at Neta when it first opened an thought the food was outstanding. We went back recently and ordered the omakase just like the first time we went. We were disappointed with the meal. The portions were much bigger than the first time we went but we found the food to be bland and rather unexciting - a complete 180 from the first visit. I would suggest the restaurant reduce the portion sizes but increase the quality and inventiveness of the dishes.

Went there based on it's among the "best" sushi restaurants in the City. While the ambiance and the service was excellent, the quality of food was surprisingly sub par. There are several restaurants in the City with better quality of food with a much lighter price tag. Would opt for some place else in future.

I am looking forward to returning to Neta so I can taste offerings not featured in my Omakase meal. While expensive, the lease expensive Omakase was a more than I could finish. Highlights: scallops w uni, delicious hot rice concoction, suishi. Our main waiter was knowledgeable and welcoming. He suggested a good saki accompaniment and urged me to stop in early to try other items I asked about -"there's no minimum," he smiled.

We were visiting NYC and dined here mid week with a friend who is a New Yorker. It's a small restaurant, so noise level was quite high. Service was friendly and attentive. The food was nice but overpriced for the small servings. We have definitely had better Sushi elsewhere as my husband and I love it and have been to a number of different Sushi restaurants during our travels.

We ordered the omikase with the addition of the toro and caviar. The meal was superb and among the best omikase I have had in New York. Just keep in mind that half of the omikase is appetizer/small plate and the other half is sushi/rolls. I was unbelievably full by the end of the night but still ate every bite of my peanut butter ice cream.

Bottom line -- The best Omakase in New York City. Fantastic and creative Omakase, the creativity of the hot dishes paired with outstanding sushi is fantastic. It is lively, so don't go if you want a whisper quiet formal Japanese temple. This is a place to have fun, have a drink and have the best food money can buy. Tip if you go early (before 6pm) and sit at the bar you can see everything being made and the chefs aren't as busy so you can really talk to them and learn about the food and they might even give you something special if you are nice to them.

I was a bit surprised by how expensive Neta is when I saw the menu. But the food turned out to be so exceptionally good that it was worth every penny. My guests, foodies from Toronto with lots of sushi experience, were equally impressed with the quality of both the cooked food and the sushi. The collar was as tasty a Japanese cooked dish as we'd ever had, and the sushi was exceptionally fresh and delicious.

We've had dinner a couple of times at Neta, and it's been excellent. This time we ordered the sushi omakase; every piece of fish was terrific, and the service was excellent. The only problem on this night was one that's not under the restaurant's control, which is the behavior of other diners, for which the restaurant staff felt compelled to apologize. Unfortunately, this seems to happen everywhere, so it won't keep us from going back to Neta.

This was a wonderful surprise of a restaurant. I read a good review on the New York Times but it exceeded my expectations. Service was great and they had some original ideas with there food. Try the Uni Risotto. A bit pricey for the seemingly small portion but it's super rich. Any more and it would start doing damage.

We went to Neta for a special birthday dinner after MUCH internet research of "NYC's best sushi restaurant", and they did not disappoint. From the moment we sat down at the sushi bar the attention from ALL of the staff was unbelievably attentive and on top of everything. We did the 'middle priced' Omakase service, which while expensive as all get out, was really a rare treat. The tasty nibbles just kept coming, and you really end up eating a lot more than it seems as it's paced out so well. Each taste of sushi was truly unlike any 'normal' sushi I have ever had ( I said, "I can never eat regular sushi after this--we're spoiled!") We had our fair share of (very good) cold sake, and the bill for 2 without tip was about $470.

food was decent, but not sure if it's worth the price. portions are small. after spending more than $225 for two people, we still left not full. service was good for most of the evening, until dessert time and the waiter told us we have 20 more minutes (we've been there for 1.5 hr at this time). a bit ticked off by the "warning" to leave in an expensive restaurant, especially when there were 2 empty tables next to us. what's the rush? no thanks to dessert, because the waiter has left a bad taste in my mouth!

We went to Neta on the basis of a review and were not disappointed. Sure this is not a cheap place, we had al carte which came to £200 at today's exchange rate. Really nice sushi with a twist and a good selector of dishes. Our meal was topped off with a really nice white wine. It is a busy place so they want to turn the tables quickly though we did not feel rushed. Only duff note was a lobster dish which had great flavours though masked the fish. We hope to go again next time we are in New York.

One of if not the finest sushi. Especially loved the toro sashimi and the toro and caviar with gold flakes. Everything is exceedingly fresh. Seated 2 chairs over from us at the sushi bar was the chef Mario Batali (food network / Iron Chef / owns about 20 restaurants, not Neta but many others in NYC, Vegas, Singapore). Staff was extremely attentive and helpful. Excellent foodie spot!

Before making a reservation here, I searched and compared many different reviews and write-ups to try and find a great sushi place in NYC that I haven't been to yet. And was not disappointed at all! Neta had some of the freshest fish in the city with a very unique and creative menu. The service was great and knowledgeable and the atmosphere wasn't stuffy or too formal. I'd describe it as an amazing local gem with amazing food. I highly recommend anything with the Uni. DELISH! I've already recommended the spot to several friends.

One word - amazing. I didn't expect much when booking this restaurant. Been to a lot of notable Japanese restaurants such as Sushi Yasuda, 15 East, Soto... Just to name a few faves coming from a sushi snob. This restaurant definitely won me over. Great service and fresh fish is all I have to say. This restaurant definitely surpassed any of my expectations. Don't believe me... Try it out for yourselves! Btw, pretty pricey. But worth it.

Dinner was terrific. Would definitely recommend the omakase we were served ($105, I think). However, the service was quite insensitive, and almost pushy. It was quite a few minutes from the time we sat until we were offered a drink, but when the courses started we were constantly rushed by the clearing and next course. And while attentive service is appreciated, the staff constantly reached between us to fill glasses and clear rather than taking the time to walk to the proper side of the table so they wouldn't have to intrude. Overall, just a so-so experience.

Our 9:30 reservation wasn't even close to being ready when we arrived on time. So they sent us to a bar/restaurant next door that was perfectly fine, but by 10:15pm, we were really hungry! They called to say they were ready for us, but then we waited again for the seats to actually free up. We finally sat at 10:30 and our first course was served very quickly...and from then on the service was great and the food was OUTSTANDING. But it was a much later night than expected, and the hostess didn't seem to care. Hence the title worth the wait, but be prepared to!
