  • "We loved our Brunch and will be back. We were happy with our small shared platter of a few pieces of cheese, prosciutto, and bread (though a bit more bread would be appreciated); the tiny madeleines were delightful as was the lemon curd. One of us is now crazy about the lobster hash with poached eggs atop: delicious flavor and a good portion. One of us was very pleased with the tasty quiche Lorraine but wished for twice as much (and she is not one with a big appetite). We enjoyed the triple chocolate mousse for dessert though we wished there was a larger selection than three items. Cappuccino made for a lovely ending to a fine~ and fun~ meal. Scrumptious choices as well as inventive options will keep us coming. The pizza too!"

  • "We had absolutely horrible service and the food was nothing to write home about. We even had two servers because one was getting trained. Hopefully the trainee has a service background or else he will be getting 10% or less tips like our server earned. We got our drinks then waited 15-20 minutes for anyone to come back so we could place our order. Our food took nearly 20 minutes to arrive. No one checked up on our food until everyone was finished eating. We had credit cards sitting on the table for 10 minutes before the hostess came over to offer to close us out and refill coffee. This place came very highly recommended, but ended up being the worst food and service we had all weekend in Chicago."

  • "I was happily surprised at how good the food was at Nellcote. I was part of a group (7 people) so the food was served family-style. It was great trying out all the dishes. Service was great, too. NOTE -- If you go, be sure to order the roasted mushrooms--they are unbelievably good!"

  • "I've always wanted to dine here and finally had the opportunity to do so with my boyfriend. We went on a Wednesday night and it wasn't crowded. We first ordered a marguerita pizza with buffalo Mozzarella and the squid ink pasta with lobster (I forget the actual name). The pasta was great and the pizza was a little undercooked. We then ordered a side of asparagus and a chicken dish. The chicken wasn't anything spectacular and the asparagus was overdone. Finally, the BEST part of our meal was a lemon dessert with cherry and cream. It was recommended by our waitress and even though were both not big lemon fans, I could eat this dessert forever. Not too tart and the cream was to die for."

The squid ink pasta was great but the spaghetti was awesome b/c of the noodles. Didn't have the pizza - though I hear that's a good size for sharing. Would go again!"

  • "We were a group of 5 dining at Nellcote for the first time. We ordered many dishes and shared them on mini-plates. Every dish was excellent. We had two different kind of salads, some of their housemade bread (flour mill on site), salmon, scallops, lamb, pasta, pizza - all delicious. Cocktails were fun and creative. Highly recommend."

  • "We had another wonderfully leisurely evening of fantastic food and great drinks. They mill their own flour so the pasta and pizza are fantastic and you can't go wrong with any of the fresh vegetables. I always ask the waitstaff and chef to just "tell me what to get" knowing that even if it's something I usually don't care for, they have a way of preparing it such that I love it. If you're a foodie - this place is a must."

  • "I went to Nellcote to celebrate my College Graduation. The food was outstanding, as was the decor. My first interactions with the staff over the phone were positive, they were accomodating and helpful. However, my dining experience was hindered by an unattentive waiter who brought out one small plate of vegetables or one pizza at a time for a group of 8 in a sharing style restaurant."

  • "Hostess informed me that she couldn't honor my reservation for 45 minutes to 1 hour. There was no apology, no indication of an effort to make other accommodations for us, just a finger pointing to the bar where we were told we could wait. Upon further pressing it appears that she simply forgot to mark the table as occupied in the system and therefore that was my problem, not theirs."

  • "When reservations at another restaurant fell through, I was able to get Nellcote reservations at the last minute. I'd never heard anything about the restaurant before, so it was a bit of a gamble, but it totally paid off! Amazing cocktails, delicious house made bread, butter and sausage. Everything we had was amazing. My faves were the spring pea and burrata salad and the chocolate parfait. Atmosphere was a cool mixture of elegant and funky—loved the chandeliers! Great place to start out a bachelorette party. I think we'll all be coming back in the future. My boyfriend has already suggested a date night!"

  • "My friend and I ordered 4 dishes sharing them all, plus dessert-what a perfect meal. The simple green salad and beets with goat cheese really paired beautifully. So did the scallops and fava bean ravioli. The ggelato paired well with the chocolate (mousse) parfait. Wines we selected were really nice and went well with our food selections. Our server was very helpful, friendly and professional. Love the decor-sort if funky romantic. Only complaint is it was a bit on the warm side. "

  • "It was funny to watch people across the street at Little Goat wait for 90-120 minutes while Nellcote had a 3/4 full dining room and shaded sidewalk. Our food was very good, unembellished and perfectly cooked. A rolled omelet and excellent quiche loraine (the crust!), each with a simple side salad. Such a nice change from the mandatory 'potatoes' at most other brunches. Also, we started with the 'for the table' breakfast charcuterie option. Though still good, this did not impress us as much as our entrees did. The madeleines were good, the rolls were a little dry, and there weren't enough rolls for the amount of topping we were given. Service was prompt, and coffee service was very good. Would like to see a higher-quality coffee."

  • "While we dined at Nellcote to celebrate a special occasion, we wouldn't wait for the next special occasion to return. Loved the small plates which were varied and delicious. The place was hopping but never too loud or interfering with our dining experience. However, almost too efficient in serving the small plates, we were afraid we'd be out of there too soon. But our server picked up on our mood and let us enjoy the rest of our meal at our own pace. A lovely evening. Happy to recommend."

  • "We arrived at Nellcote at 5:30 because we were going to see a play afterwards. It wasn't crowded when we arrived but certainly filled up by the time we left. The food was interesting and well seasoned. We liked all the dishes we ordered. All the dishes are shareable which is my favorite way to eat so I can try lots of things. The wine list had a good variety with some reasonably priced bottles as well as more expensive. The atmosphere is casual but also sophisticated. My whole party really enjoyed it. The Squid ink pasta and the lamb ragu with gnocchi were 2 of my favorites but it was all delicious. I'd go there again. "

  • "We went on Mother's Day for an early dinner. Hard to describe interior, but beautiful and unique. The service was top notch. The food was fresh, well prepared, and very good. My adult children raved. I would recommend this place. we were seated at a high table with stools, next time I would prefer a table. The furniture seemed sort of like Alice in Wonderlandiish."

  • "Operations need to overhaul the service logistics and properly season and time an otherwise well thought-out menu. The dining experience is not worthy of a second visit and was a special occasion deal-breaker with no customer concession. Mother's Day brunch for two was inexcusably served 1.5 hours after seating requiring cancellation for afternoon plans. Wait staff incredibly slow to wait or intermittently clear the table. Our menu selection included a weak Bloody Mary and Citron Martini. Could not find or taste any lobster in the hash with barely runny poached eggs. Hanger steak was chewy with salty over easy eggs and large stalk poorly seasoned kale. Fresh o.j. was delicious. "

  • "We were a party of four for dinner and really appreciated the hostess seating us in the upper level so we could look down on the main floor dining and activity. It was probably a little quieter upstairs which is what we wanted to carry on our conversations. The food selections provided for a unique and different experience than most other American Nouveau type menus. The wine selections even impressed our guests who were from France!"

  • "Called to make a reservation and been told that nothing was available til 9. Went on OpenTable and was able to make an 8:30. Arrived there and place was half empty!Could have been seated at 7! Bartender used well rum making my "beast of burden". When I asked him to show me the bottle of rum that he just used, he said that didn't know where it was. What?! Didn't you just use it?? He probably drank my Atlantico Reserva Rum and still charge me $$12 for a cocktail!! At the table, my husband and I ordered two entrees and two sides. Only my entree arrives . When we inquired we were told that is a tapas place and food arrives as is ready. I would have loved the waitress explain that before we ordered our food. We would have ordered differently."

  • "We went Saturday night for dinner and drinks. The place was not packed but had a nice crowd and lots of energy. We sat downstairs for dinner. We had the mushrooms, which were pretty good, but sauce on the bottom was so thick that it took away from the flavor. The roasted cauliflower was one of my favorite items, a little oily, but mostly yummy. I had the pizza with arugula and egg and that was very good. The crust was perfect and the cheese, arugula and egg were done perfectly. We also, tried the pasta bolognese. It was a light sauce and pretty good. Nothing super, I would not order it again. The service was very good by all, but the main server, was a bit lacking. I had to ask for someone to ask her to come by for another drink."

  • "I came here with a few friends on Friday night. The food was delicious and the wine selection was perfect for the food. (We ordered a white by mistake but it was delicious and paired well with our food choices) The only thing that kind of set me off, was that our server took over 20 minutes to return to the table after the initial greet. Overall, she was lovely and professional but I would've liked to order my wine sooner! I will be back for sure."
